alright

lag∞n, Saturday, 3 October 2020 17:22 (five years ago)

Yeah, you’re not saying anything any of us disagree with, but I’m just not clear on what kinda road you think dems should be taking here other than the half-sincere “tactful” one they’re taking now?

circa1916, Saturday, 3 October 2020 17:23 (five years ago)

Dems should offer polite condolences for his disease and hammer him on everything else. Just stay on message.

treeship., Saturday, 3 October 2020 17:24 (five years ago)

Well maybe “what did he know and when did he know it this week?” Might be worth getting into just spitballin

𝔠𝔞𝔢𝔨 (caek), Saturday, 3 October 2020 17:25 (five years ago)

Oh yes

treeship., Saturday, 3 October 2020 17:26 (five years ago)

I fully understand their hands are kinda tied here but it’s not like Trump contracted some rare blood cancer, it’s a disease he’s taken every measure to spread to as many people as possible, and I think the Dems need to push the whole “you dishonest assholes knowingly put our candidate at risk” angle

frogbs, Saturday, 3 October 2020 17:26 (five years ago)

I don’t think it matters a ton what the democrats do btw. Purely in terms of short term electoral politics the smart move is probably not to interrupt him.

𝔠𝔞𝔢𝔨 (caek), Saturday, 3 October 2020 17:26 (five years ago)

If he knew he was positive before the bedminister event, that is a major scandal.

treeship., Saturday, 3 October 2020 17:26 (five years ago)

Yeah, one in a million major scandals. I’m not sure anyone cares anymore.

Sayin. GOP doling out a lot of rope for themselves right now.

circa1916, Saturday, 3 October 2020 17:29 (five years ago)

I think people would care that he is knowingly spreading the virus. All of us have overturned our lives to prevent the spread. People have given up everything.

treeship., Saturday, 3 October 2020 17:31 (five years ago)

Also talking about covid is implicitly extremely damaging to all republicans so by all means do that

𝔠𝔞𝔢𝔨 (caek), Saturday, 3 October 2020 17:31 (five years ago)

True I feel like there’s a good advert of voters saying they missed weddings and funerals and births and stuff and then cut to that rose garden party.

trump is def in to say the least a very tough spot in many ways but it would be dangerous if everyone is just all pray for the president come together as a nation, someones at the very least gotta be asking questions about when he was diagnosed, why they werent wearing masks at any events, and it wldnt be bad to point out that the trumps shitty behavior has not only got himself sick but killed 200k americans, im not saying biden himself should be jumping on this but the dems have to keep campaigning

lag∞n, Saturday, 3 October 2020 17:33 (five years ago)

^^ this too

sleeve, Saturday, 3 October 2020 17:33 (five years ago)

Totally. There is no need for performative/sincere thoughts and prayers stuff. Xp

𝔠𝔞𝔢𝔨 (caek), Saturday, 3 October 2020 17:34 (five years ago)

I think what the gop has done is so bad that thoughts and prayers would almost be damaging to the democrats with so many people who’ve sacrificed so much. If you can’t say anything mean don’t say anything at all.

Third GOP senator, Sen. Ron Johnson tests positive.

RBG may have obtained her final wish.

Gloves off in senate races of course.

𝔠𝔞𝔢𝔨 (caek), Saturday, 3 October 2020 17:36 (five years ago)

Seriously, the virus *which he has* underscores his incompetence, so they should emphasize that at every juncture. "We pray for him to get better, but this was possibly avoidable. Millions of people are catching this, many of them are dying, and there are very simple steps anyone, including the White House, can take to reduce the risk."

Show things like this

I’ve seen enough Republican senators test positive to tweet this photo. @SenatorWicker — because you refused to wear a mask on our @Delta flight last night, please let your fellow passengers know your status once you’ve been tested. pic.twitter.com/j2TW6g1gwO

Conversations w Republicans close to WH over last 12 hours indicate it’s been far more dire than WH has said. Before being taken to Walter Reed, Trump kept asking aides, “Am I going out like Stan Chera? Am I?” (Chera was Trump’s NYC friend who died of Covid in April)

Yeah, agree with all that. This shit is JUST settling in though, coming out of the gate with “thoughts and prayers” isn’t ridiculous.

circa1916, Saturday, 3 October 2020 17:40 (five years ago)

Haha that rules but Gabriel Sherman has published a lot of bullshit

𝔠𝔞𝔢𝔨 (caek), Saturday, 3 October 2020 17:40 (five years ago)

yeah, shame these fuckers. all this stuff none of us can do, weddings, funerals, graduations, and they don't do shit and put others at risk.

Josh in Chicago, Saturday, 3 October 2020 17:40 (five years ago)

lol Win one for Stan Chera, rip.

Josh in Chicago, Saturday, 3 October 2020 17:41 (five years ago)

Out of respect for Donald Trump and everything he stood for, it is important that we respond to this news with a total lack of empathy #TrumpHasCovid

Doctors, Nurses and ALL at the GREAT Walter Reed Medical Center, and others from likewise incredible institutions who have joined them, are AMAZING!!!Tremendous progress has been made over the last 6 months in fighting this PLAGUE. With their help, I am feeling well!

the oxygen makes sense. you’ve all read about the bizarre way that covid patients can get dangerously low blood oxygen levels that would normally indicate imminent collapse and just be chatting and instagramming normally. until the moment they need a ventilator. so it’s not necessarily incongrous that trump was walkin, talkin, etc - and that he was being rushed to the hospital.

as far as messaging goes, i feel like even if you’re a mega-maga, or ESPECIALLY then, isn’t getting covid so cavalierly just consummate stupidity? if the greatest guy is trump, then why take trump out of the equation? or from the other direction, kind of a “you may not respect yourself or others, but please respect the office mr president”

I guess the Dems do have to be careful not to imply that Trump and pals “deserve” Covid cuz 7 million people have been infected and certainly a lot of them got it through no fault of their own. And the people I know who have gotten it, even as a direct result of their own carelessness, you do still feel bad for them. The message needs to tie into the fact that other than patient zero he’s the one guy more responsible than anyone on the planet for the spread of this disease.

frogbs, Saturday, 3 October 2020 17:56 (five years ago)

Lack of empathy was the platform from Him on down the GOP line. They are now on the defense. The Trump Virus is no longer figurative but literal. Hammering away and performative condolences don’t have to be mutually exclusive. His inability to tweet and deflect/project at the moment is a once in 4 years opportunity so it shouldn’t be squandered. The bonus here is that his malignant narcissism will make him implode at his inability to counterattack and that will in turn hamper his immune response and ability to get better. Now is the time to break the vicious cycle of dems forever bringing knives to gunfights.

vmajestic, Saturday, 3 October 2020 17:57 (five years ago)

There’s a lot of confusion about the diagnosis time, since acknowledged by the person who posted that timeline xp

𝔠𝔞𝔢𝔨 (caek), Saturday, 3 October 2020 17:57 (five years ago)

Which is not to say the confusion will not be resolved by confirmation that timeline is correct

I'm just listening to Pods Save America from yesterday so I know they at least are asking similar questions as to the why and teh when.
I think other podcasts are doing the same so there will be audiences for them at least doing that.
I think Opening Arguments was saying something similar yesterday.
NOt sure if taht is all the same demographic and possibly preaching to the choir since they would possibly already be asking similar questions. Hope the rest of the country is thinking some of taht,

I think much like sticking Arlington cemetery right outside Rober E lee's door to remind him of what he was responsible for, the Virus should carry trump's name to remind him.
Or is that too much of a legacy for him. & what he really deserves is an unmarked grave?
