listen I was thinking about it today and I really am glad this happened. anyone like Maddow or Obama who says shit like "wishing him a speedy recovery" is either doing it performatively or puts appearances above the good of the people. Biden gets a pass because he is running for President and therefore the ONLY thing between us and 4 more years of this bullshit (fuck Biden though for real). if he would not have gotten COVID then he would have travelled to Wisconsin and gotten god knows how many more people infected due to his dumbass Nazi rallies. people in my state would have died, like the guy who worked at the meat department at my local Festival Foods, who got COVID and died, seriously one of the most friendly people I have ever met, how many other guys that work in the meat department ask you how things are going when your wife is pregnant and remembers the names of your kids??? The main problem with Pence is that he is such a non-entity that it may be possible to quickly project an image onto him, like he was a blank white movie screen and make people like him just long enough to snag back some traditional older republicans who were sick of Trump.

Best way to counter that would be to remind everyone that Trump put Pence in charge of COVID-19 response at the very beginning and he was never officially removed from that responsibility. Just pin that tail on that ass - with a vengeance.

Ironically, Trump definitely dumped that job on Pence so he could be a political heat shield and a scapegoat if things got out of hand.

No amount of projecting will make Pence a Trump replacement, his only constituency is the anti-abortionists and maybe the "oh well, at least he's a republican" faction. People like Trump because he's Trump, and Pence can't come close to being that.

Hoping that he's in ICU by election day, so the MAGAs will worry they might be actually voting for Pence, and the mainstream Republicans will worry their could-it-be-Pence vote might end up being a Trump vote if he recovers, and none of them vote at all. Not that I'm even in the US so don't especially have a horse in this race, but you know what they say about America sneezing.
