he's not going to prison; this is America

brooklyn suicide cult (Dr Morbius), Friday, 2 October 2020 23:16 (five years ago)

The bright side re: pending criminal cases in the event he died is he would no longer be around to obstruct.

error prone wolf syndicate (Hadrian VIII), Friday, 2 October 2020 23:17 (five years ago)

We could get a lot of this shit on the books in record time.

error prone wolf syndicate (Hadrian VIII), Friday, 2 October 2020 23:18 (five years ago)

I think him dying now would inflame his cult. I have no insight but it seems better to me that he be humiliated in the election and then prosecuted for his crimes

Dan S, Friday, 2 October 2020 23:18 (five years ago)

Anyway we are all bracing for disappointment, right? He’s probably going to be fine :-/

error prone wolf syndicate (Hadrian VIII), Friday, 2 October 2020 23:19 (five years ago)

Then he'll get reelected.

pomenitul, Friday, 2 October 2020 23:20 (five years ago)

But fuck such thoughts.

pomenitul, Friday, 2 October 2020 23:20 (five years ago)

I remember you thought the same of Warren Harding

TikTok to the (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Friday, 2 October 2020 23:20 (five years ago)

How would dying of the very disease he mocked and called a hoax burnish his rep with the cult? I mean as opposed to other outcomes?

error prone wolf syndicate (Hadrian VIII), Friday, 2 October 2020 23:21 (five years ago)

Never forget:

We'd like him to be able to come home now, which is frustrating, but we're glad the doctors are being thorough and making sure they do the job right. Thank you for praying, everyone. Please keep doing it. He really is getting better, which means it is working.

He's not going to die, sadly. Even in his age group, the vast majority of people recover. Instead, in a couple of weeks' time, he's going to be bragging about how he "aced it", there will be NYT stories about how he has privately called people who died from it "losers" etc etc

Zelda Zonk, Friday, 2 October 2020 23:25 (five years ago)

it would be so much better to see him recover and then beaten on nov 3

Why, so he can continue to make life miserable for millions upon millions as a hero to his death cult?

The death cult will remain and its brains have been thoroughly scrambled by Trump's misrule. The best we can hope for is a landslide loss in November, so as to drive home to the cult leaders his repudiation by the public. Dan S may be right in that a dead man losing an election would not carry the same weight going forward.

Despite its moral irrelevance, the way in which his illness, recovery, or death plays out will no doubt affect the politics around investigating the official misdeeds of his administration and prosecuting his many crimes. There are so many ways for this to play out they are past predicting.

nice

POTUS was spooked after he tested positive for coronavirus and became increasingly alarmed as he developed symptoms — like a fever — overnight, person familiar with his reaction says.

I like to think that this is when he became president

lol

erratic wolf angular guitarist (sic), Friday, 2 October 2020 23:29 (five years ago)

xp That might be true in the context of a Republican electorate who hadn’t already been convinced the whole thing is rigged. A landslide loss will do nothing to calm his followers.

error prone wolf syndicate (Hadrian VIII), Friday, 2 October 2020 23:29 (five years ago)

Did we ever find out whether his brother died of covid btw?

pomenitul, Friday, 2 October 2020 23:29 (five years ago)

A landslide loss will do nothing to calm his followers.

True enough. But the people at the top who must win elections to keep the gravy train rolling tend to notice landslide losses in a more professionally interested light.

the unappreciated charisma of cows (Aimless), Friday, 2 October 2020 23:33 (five years ago)

xxxp Hadrian I don’t know exactly, but if he died now I worry that the Trump cult would concoct a story somehow to make him a martyr and then repeat the story a million times until it became folklore

I want to see him become a disappointment to everyone

Dan S, Friday, 2 October 2020 23:37 (five years ago)

I'm inclined to agree:

There are a lot of "why is Biden unliterary disarming?!" hot takes but pulling negative ads for a few days generates a lot of positive headlines that probably outweigh the value of said ads, especially given the "we must bring the country together" message that Biden is offering. https://t.co/Lv7s8T1pHI

He could recover but still have debilitating after effects.

WH officials have serious concerns about Trump's condition tonight and his symptoms are worse than those of the First Lady at this point, according to our sources.

But he’ll be fine, they say

Trump adviser said there is reason for concern about Trump's health tonight. "This is serious," the source said. The source went on to describe Trump as very tired, very fatigued, and having some trouble breathing. WH officials continue to say Trump will be fine.

thought I read somewhere that Hope Hicks said he got symptoms before she did.

Starting to get irritated at the clip of Biden saying “this isn’t politics” that’s going around. Tell that to the tens of thousands of people who died needlessly because Trump wanted to improve his poll numbers.

NEW from a source: The Director of the Secret Service sent a note a few minutes ago to the agency that they are following protocols on “contact tracing and additional testing and isolation as applicable” after “protectees” (POTUS & the First Lady) test positive for COVID-19 pic.twitter.com/ms2sZ3kOsf

Calling them "protectees" seems a trifle cold.

Let's think of them as "people who have been tested."

Or, for short, "testees."
