this quote is why this is disastrous for trump (assuming he doesn't die)

β€œIf there are two things the Biden campaign wants this election to be about its Donald Trump the person and his handling of the coronavirus”

Trump diagnoses refocuses race on the pandemic -- again.

It's so weird, and so typical, that they keep saying Trump "seemed lethargic," like he's a pet that can't talk and you just have to notice that his nose is dry and his tail is droopy.

also you don't immediately open with experimental treatments if the symptoms are mild.

that's what i was wondering about. they just announced this and hours later they're giving him 12 different treatments.

If I was being generous I'd say they are preemptively doing absolutely everything in their power both to make sure he doesn't get worse and to make him better.

Josh in Chicago, Friday, 2 October 2020 21:03 (five years ago)

Not what we want to hear, but yes, I'm fairly certain that's what's happening here.

pomenitul, Friday, 2 October 2020 21:04 (five years ago)

you probably do, if you're hoping to avoid severe symptoms... definitely true for antivirals, dunno about monoclonal antibodies but

Choice of thread title this month was almost magically serendipitous. Hats off to ya, Alfred!

experimental treatment

https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/nausicaa/images/a/a6/ImmersionTank.jpg

sadly could not find any of the scenes where the minions are all like "no, my liege! you must not leave the tank before the treatment is complete! your fragile body!"

Doctor Casino, Friday, 2 October 2020 21:08 (five years ago)

The sooner the experimental treatments, the sooner he can be back on the campaign trail etc. etc. etc.

belt and suspendes is fine, but this treatment has not been through large scale safety tests, i.e. this is belt, suspenders and a gun.

Currently phase III, no? Could be way riskier.

BREAKING: Trump, who revealed early this morning he has coronavirus, is leaving the White House for Walter Reed Military Medical Center.

here we fuckin go lads

π” π”žπ”’π”¨ (caek), Friday, 2 October 2020 21:14 (five years ago)

At least let's hope it's an experimental gun? Like, a super-duper gun.

Josh in Chicago, Friday, 2 October 2020 21:14 (five years ago)

maybe he's just going there to finish his physical.

Josh in Chicago, Friday, 2 October 2020 21:15 (five years ago)

If this is somehow fake news, then the 5D chess here is that this β€œmiracle vaccine” will resurrect him in 2 weeks’ time and he will reenter the race having defeated Covid and promising his followers that magic cure he’s been barfing about just in time for Election Day. The reality tho is that he likely had it first, gave it to everyone else and even came to the debate as The Orange Superspreader.

this is not a vaccine (some of those are in phase III). IIUC. the largest trial of this treatment is like 250 people.

π” π”žπ”’π”¨ (caek), Friday, 2 October 2020 21:16 (five years ago)

Anyway, doesn't seem that strange to me that he would go to the hospital. If he's getting some sort of blood treatment, experimental or no, they probably don't want to administer that in his bedroom. That seems more like Rudy's jam.

Josh in Chicago, Friday, 2 October 2020 21:17 (five years ago)

I don't think it's fake... he'd be tweeting nonstop is it was fake.

Andy the Grasshopper, Friday, 2 October 2020 21:17 (five years ago)

Phases refer to clinical research in general, not just vaccines as far as I know.

This really does feel like BoJo all over again. Hopefully we'll get a happy ending this time.

he's already had the experimental treatment. it's an injection. it's not a plasma thing.

yes but regeneron is not in phase 3! https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2020-09-29/regeneron-antibody-cocktail-lowers-virus-in-covid-19-patients. the trial was 275 people.

β€œOut of an abundance of caution, and at the recommendation of his physician and medical experts, the president will be working from the presidential offices at Walter Reed for the next few days,” Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany says in a statement.

ah, well further along than i realised, but whatever they reported earlier this week was not phase 3, and phase 3 is not finished. my understanding is that phase 3 is when you find out if its safe btw. you already know it works when it reaches that stage.

π” π”žπ”’π”¨ (caek), Friday, 2 October 2020 21:24 (five years ago)

I keep wondering if China or Russia during some of this mess the past few months might take a shot at something figuring the US is too much of a basket-case really do do anything about it. I would think if they wanted to by force say take back Tiawan or make a big push in Hong Kong or something in Ukraine, what would happen? Probably too much risk but...

earlnash, Friday, 2 October 2020 21:25 (five years ago)

my point is: it's possible (and would not be particularly surprising, given his general health and what they've said publicly about his treatment and their track record of massively underplaying the seriousness of anything covid related) that he's already quite ill.

π” π”žπ”’π”¨ (caek), Friday, 2 October 2020 21:26 (five years ago)

being moved by helicopter apparently

Trump has had a long distaste for hospitals, and a distrust of medical treatments. Some of his closest allies note Trump wouldn’t allow himself to be hospitalized unless he absolutely had to.

Figured as much.

pomenitul, Friday, 2 October 2020 21:30 (five years ago)

It would be funny to get Trump locked up into a Hyperbaric tank and then switch the TV to just The View on endless loop.

earlnash, Friday, 2 October 2020 21:32 (five years ago)

My wife just stumped me with this question: when was the last time a sitting president spent multiple days (or even an overnight stay) in the hospital (at least that they public was made aware of).

I guessed Reagan but I'm not sure about the Bushes...

Jersey Al (Albert R. Broccoli), Friday, 2 October 2020 21:37 (five years ago)

So, I left the computer to go to the store briefly. Anything new to report, lol?
