Pretty sure Oingo Boingo were on the soundtrack of every movie made from about 81-89.

Boring, Maryland, Tuesday, 6 October 2020 12:50 (five years ago)

I hope Thomas Dolby and the Beach Boys were on the same song.

By his usual standards, Finders Keepers looks like Davis drew it while running for a train.

Whenever I show someone the movie They All Laughed, I always paraphrase one of Morbs' posts about it: "Watched the first 20 minutes of They All Laughed. I didn't."

Inspector Clouseau (1968)

Un-fooled and placid (sic), Wednesday, 28 October 2020 08:06 (five years ago)

woah - i knew they went so far as to stitch together a Clouseau film from old Sellers footage after he died, but somehow never knew they'd attempted to crank one out without him while he was busy filming something else. explains why the next one had the otherwise nonsensical title The Return of the Pink Panther, with the PP label sticking to the remaining films.

Doctor Casino, Thursday, 29 October 2020 13:41 (five years ago)

they'd attempted to crank one out without him while he was busy filming something else

Not only without Sellers, but without the creator/writer/director of the others, and the guy that did the music for the others

All three were otherwise engaged making some racist-ass nonsense elsewhere

Racist-Ass Nonsense (1968)

Un-fooled and placid (sic), Thursday, 29 October 2020 21:15 (five years ago)

guessing that Davis was also busy at first, hence the one with the redder elephant, and then became available later in the promo cycle. The red elephant one is a better representation of the film though (and probably exists in a 'widescreen' version, given the door framing)

Un-fooled and placid (sic), Thursday, 29 October 2020 21:24 (five years ago)

btw C.H.O.M.P.S was totally something I was aware of in pop culture for a moment - maybe from video box covers or ads for TV screenings - and had completely forgotten about. seeing that it was a Zarkoff/Barbera collab is a pretty spectacular way to be reminded of its existence!

Un-fooled and placid (sic), Thursday, 29 October 2020 23:19 (five years ago)

lolol

Barbera recalled that Arkoff's son Louis suggested that rather than a Doberman, the dog would have to be a non-threatening dog in the Benji mold. Barbera attributes this change in focus in the story to the film's lackluster performance at the box office. In his autobiography, Barbera wrote that the film "did okay... but it never made the splash it should have." Because of this, the future film deals between Hanna-Barbera and AIP were canceled.

Also from wikipedia, it was originally released as a PG film in American summer, then edited for dog profanity and reissued as a G at Christmas.

watched this last week, as there's an iffy transfer on Amazon Prime right now. it's all right actually! you do feel the different touch of a female director, doing a local Chicago based-on-a-true-story caper. the sound mix is sort of staggeringly awful in places and i really wasn't following the plot a lot of the time but there's kind of a nice hangout vibe to it imho. a passable way to spend 85 minutes. Ebert gave it a low star rating but a decent review.
