Bumble Bee brand tuna is now antifa

StarKist just doesn't have the bludgeoning power I look for in a canned tuna.

Wessonality Crisis (Old Lunch), Wednesday, 23 September 2020 03:23 (five years ago)

Just a variation of a Trump chart topper from a couple of weeks ago. He leaned more toward canned soup back then, but today he favors tuna. Like all truly creative artists, he's restless and keeps looking to top himself.

the unappreciated charisma of cows (Aimless), Wednesday, 23 September 2020 03:26 (five years ago)

Why, in four years, has no one on our side made a concerted effort to feed President Credulous McTwitterhog a line of compromising talking points for him to unquestioningly parrot on camera?

Wessonality Crisis (Old Lunch), Wednesday, 23 September 2020 03:26 (five years ago)

How would you know the difference

sound of scampo talk to me (El Tomboto), Wednesday, 23 September 2020 03:32 (five years ago)

Fair point.

Wessonality Crisis (Old Lunch), Wednesday, 23 September 2020 03:39 (five years ago)

it was bags of soup back then; presumably Miller or Scavino managed to explain to him that cans are harder than bags, and the phrase "cans of tuna" sparks his degraded neurons, because he has never opened a can in his soft-fingered life.

FBI and Homeland Security and the DEA and the Marines are teaming up & cloning ppl's phones on the street from spyplanes. DHS removed the undersecretary of intelligence for refusing to falsify Mexican invasions, and to stop tracking white supremacists and Russian interference. Everything is very cool and voting for Dianne Feinsteins everywhere will fix any minor irregularities!

erratic wolf angular guitarist (sic), Wednesday, 23 September 2020 04:44 (five years ago)

The USMS is not the Marines

sound of scampo talk to me (El Tomboto), Wednesday, 23 September 2020 05:04 (five years ago)

oops: ta

erratic wolf angular guitarist (sic), Wednesday, 23 September 2020 05:06 (five years ago)

couldn’t resist. also if the marines were actually involved that would have been an entire order of magnitude more fucked up. the story, of course, is horribly fucked up as-is.

The only silver lining in there is the bit where the call for DHS intelligence volunteers was met with little interest.

sound of scampo talk to me (El Tomboto), Wednesday, 23 September 2020 05:12 (five years ago)

We’re now going live to Lafayette Square, where a BumbleBeehived female protester is taunting Trump: I’ll give you fish! A Fred Schneider-voiced protester jumps in: Cans of tuna fish!

No mean feat. DaBaby (breastcrawl), Wednesday, 23 September 2020 11:16 (five years ago)

Republican sources tell @bartongellman the Trump campaign "is discussing contingency plans to bypass election results and appoint loyal electors in battleground states where Republicans hold the legislative majority." https://t.co/m70OkHOFJU

I feel somewhat confident in claiming that Barry Manilow wrote the Bumblebee Tuna jingle: "bum-bum-bumblebee, bumblebee tooona!"

Andy the Grasshopper, Wednesday, 23 September 2020 16:18 (five years ago)

xpost contingent on losing the election *while* having created enough noise and confusion surrounding mail-in voting to build popular support for the notion that what actually happened is the Democrats created "chaos" and the results are therefore somehow suspect.

obviously flimsy logically and also constitutionally - if the sacred Framers had intended state legislators to just pick the electors, they would have said so, like they did for state legislators picking Senators. instead they articulated the baroque and problematic Electoral College system.

the scariest part to me is the doubletalk non-answers when public officials and politicians are pressed --- no sense that they're obliged to flatly deny an obvious plan for election-stealing, instead taking it as an opportunity to continue muddying the waters about mail-in. a lie repeated often enough, etc. hopefully most non-cultists aren't buying it but, god.

Trump’s personal capacity for flooding the channel with noise to confuse easily duped morons is his main (only) talent, but to actually fuck with the electors will require the GOP as a whole to function like a reasonably well maintained machine.

When they held the trifecta from 2016-2018 they couldn’t even pass a budget. They got through one tax cut bill. That’s it.

I just looked to see if Marc Elias (Democratic lawyer who has been filing lawsuits to expand ballot access) was recommending anything, and it turns out he has an organization called Democracy Docket, which you can donate to: https://www.democracydocket.com/

Do they? They barely eked out an electoral win last time and they got blown to pieces in 2018. They’re pretty terrible at anything that isn’t handed to them (among those things, sadly, is pushing through judiciary nominees).

sound of scampo talk to me (El Tomboto), Wednesday, 23 September 2020 16:59 (five years ago)

well, while getting blown up pieces they managed to pick up some Senate seats

Muswell Hillbilly Elegy (President Keyes), Wednesday, 23 September 2020 17:11 (five years ago)

I'm not even sure Trump wants the job; he just doesn't want anyone else to have it. The humiliation of being the first one-term president in 30 years is too much to bear.

Andy the Grasshopper, Wednesday, 23 September 2020 17:11 (five years ago)

he'll get a higher % votes than GHWB in '92. I'm sure he'll tell us that.

I’ve got a long-running politics chat going on with two of my closest friends from high school. Both are liberals, very pro-Democratic party, Obama = paragon of virtue etc etc... and they really do think I’m being histrionic when I lightly suggest that creeping fascism is something to take seriously.

FYI, one (a minister ffs) spent most of the spring and summer essentially parroting GOP/Fox talking points on Covid, and thinks that well-off white ppl dining al fresco getting yelled at by BLM protestors is eXaCtLy tHe sAmE as chuds openly cheering the murder of George Floyd.

the other basically told me at one point he’s pretty of tired of hearing The Left complain about the way mainstream Democratic policies haven’t been great when it comes to labor/ the working class/ poor people: “honestly I guess I just don’t care all that much”. btw, he’s 43 and his parents are wealthy chuds who’ve basically floated his two masters degrees and art “career” up to the current day.

sorry for the TMI, but I really don’t feel good about things.

Actual defenses of the President's hateful statements
-He's not as much of a racist as Woodrow Wilson
-He's not smart enough to understand white nationalism
-He also says hateful things about women and is abusive toward many groupshttps://t.co/ZDdEJ3J4fV pic.twitter.com/2vobbwa3mI

lots of batshit justifications but my favorite one is that trump isn't smart enough to by an ideological white nationalist. sure, man, white nationalism is sooooo complex.

If all the fears expressed in that Atlantic article come to pass, I am forced to conclude that the fate of the nation would be determined by the loyalty and sense of duty among the US armed forces, particularly the general staff officers.

(xpost) No idea, but if it ever did come to that, my hope is that a) there are clearly many retired military people who despise Trump (they're on cable news all the time), and that b) although they're retired, the upper echelon of the military is filled with their friends.

Simon H., Wednesday, 23 September 2020 17:49 (five years ago)

that is not filling me with confidence

it doesn't fill me with confidence, either. but this is not such a slender reed upon which to base one's hope as you might think. the military cultivates a particular kind of patriotic ideology that genuinely elevates loyalty to the traditions of democracy and rule of law above whoever occupies civilian office.

atm, Trump is seen as the democratically elected idiot they are bound to serve. if the election aftermath is Trump-generated chaos with Biden winning the popular vote but the Electoral College result undermined by subterfuge, Trump's claim to authority will not be clear and until it is clear he will revert to just an idiot they loathe.

Way more worried about the antisocial elements unleashed by this POS.

State Senate, pro-Biden rally canceled after threats of violence

The rally was called off Saturday after an anonymous caller warned organizers that "shots will be fired" if the event was held in downtown Gettysburg, said Rich Sterner, a Democratic candidate for the state's 33rd Senate District.

We're going to be cleaning up after this c**t for years.

having honestly not followed it much beyond the superficial, what was the outcome of people getting pulled off the streets and into vans, etc? were they just released? we don't have people permanently disappeared, do we?

Both sides, people. BOTH. SIDES.

Here's what's happening, 41 days until #Election2020:

• 200,000 in U.S. dead from virus. Trump gives himself "A+" on pandemic

• Joe Biden battles being chronically late

• Republican U.S. Senate candidate from Delaware defends Ginsburg memehttps://t.co/8T8pYkG9na
