looks to me like the eyes on the rising figure were blanked out purposely. not necessarily via software because there are plenty of ways to do that in a darkroom. but when images have (apparently) been manipulated I'd disqualify them.

I was thinking in terms of the 'cursed' aesthetic of the photo, not its supposed purpose as evidence for levitation (which purpose I didn't know when I posted that). The eyes in the image pom posted don't look to me simply like closed eyelids, but more like eerie white holes in his face. I couldn't explain why, if not manipulation.

The requisite flash may be the explanation you're looking for:

True story: this spring (as social distancing and germ-consciousness was becoming, um, viral) I happened to be in an elevator with an earnest sign stating we should avoid touching the elevator buttons directly - it suggested "consider using a car key or a pen."

It took every ounce of adulthood I possess (not much) to resist altering it to say "consider using a car key or a penis."

But I thought about it every time I got in that elevator.

one of my good friends went through a scatalogical phase...in college...that involved putting little dishes of his poop in an elevator and then sending it up and down to other floors

in all that fog of forgetfulness, one night sticks out to eat: it was the night he actually did put it in a dish and send it up and down the elevator. in the meantime, i was in his dorm room eating/drinking TWO QUARTS of egg drop soup and playing amazing amounts of super monkey ball on gamecube while distant screams of horror could be heard down the hallway

I'll run across this occasionally on Google, and each time wonder, "What happened here?"

xpost - If you are still in touch with your friend, and depending on where he went to college, I might have a $127 bill I'd like reimbursement for from 1995. Some mystery shitter kept sending his poop in the elevators in our dorm and they never figured out who it was, so they prorated the damage charges to everyone in the dorm. Somehow the university felt they spent over $9,000 cleaning it up over the course of the two semesters.

The funny one was the night they served lobster in the dorm and I opened the elevator the next morning to find a full lobster in the middle of the cab, with a bib tied neatly around it and a knife and fork propped in the claws.

I don't remember how it was, but in the 90s my university always billed students for damages. Usually it was if they could specifically tie damage in your room to you, they'd split it among the people assigned to the room. If it was damage (beyond wear and tear - i.e. punched holes in walls, spray paint, etc) to a common area or stairwell and they didn't know who did it, it got prorated to either the floor or the entire dorm.

They had a list we all got at the beginning of the semester that had like standard charges for "fixes" - like cleaning up feces was something like $250 per occurrence or something. Our mystery pooper also liked to hit the showers.

The $9,000 was just a guess based on what I had to pay multiplied my estimate of students in that smaller dorm. Usually these charges were between $10 and $30, but one year our entire dorm got hit with $127 charges. It was insane.

The cat in a baby carrier is ok but the corn dog/ septic tank combo makes this a pretty solid exemplar of the phenomenon.

Cats will walk on a leash. They may not be happy, but they'll do it. I also trained a former cat to follow me around a 2 block park. He lagged, but followed. All to stop the mewling at the door at night.
