With the IKEA crib, it's now a brute-force problem: search every IKEA, see if it's the right kind of intersection, get yourself oriented relative to the intersection, and try to find either the low-rise Plattenbau up the hill, or the 1960s concrete stadium for local sports off to the left.

Far too verdant to be Madrid surely

rascal clobber (jim in vancouver), Monday, 21 September 2020 18:20 (five years ago)

this isn't saying mediterranean to me. Western Europe for sure

rascal clobber (jim in vancouver), Monday, 21 September 2020 18:30 (five years ago)

Yeah, it doesn't look Mediterranean to me either.

brain (krakow), Monday, 21 September 2020 18:34 (five years ago)

Braga it is!

cherry blossom, Monday, 21 September 2020 22:32 (five years ago)

Hats off to the Ikea spotter, didn't even notice that! Good work all round

cherry blossom, Tuesday, 22 September 2020 07:27 (five years ago)

Bravo!

I don't feel too bad about the Mediterranean thing as it's decidedly Northern Atlantic in the end.

brain (krakow), Tuesday, 22 September 2020 10:44 (five years ago)

Oh, missed this one entirely, yeah, love that stadium.

budo jeru, Thursday, 24 September 2020 00:57 (five years ago)

Looks European to me. Buildings on the left have a bit of a French Haussmann vibe to them, but then further on there's a group that looks more middle European. The tower with the strange roof is probably key.

Zelda Zonk, Thursday, 24 September 2020 02:10 (five years ago)

Reminds me of Warsaw

more clouds pt. 2: same bridge, different view

budo jeru, Monday, 28 September 2020 00:53 (five years ago)

Some really distinctive buildings there but I'm lost, except to say it has a northern European feel. The style of the cathedral towers could give the region perhaps...

Zelda Zonk, Monday, 28 September 2020 01:19 (five years ago)

Actually the domed towers on that cathedral seem to me more Spanish or Portuguese. But the rest of the pic certainly doesn't scream Spanish/Portuguese... There's what looks like a village in the top right hand corner, all slate-roofed, again making it feel more Northern European.

Zelda Zonk, Monday, 28 September 2020 01:47 (five years ago)

no more guesses ?

budo jeru, Thursday, 1 October 2020 20:29 (five years ago)

Andy the Grasshopper, Thursday, 1 October 2020 20:33 (five years ago)

Two Meter Peter (Ste), Thursday, 1 October 2020 20:39 (five years ago)

The combo of the roofs and the church gives me Central Europe vibes, Czechoslovakia?

Guayaquil (eephus!), Thursday, 1 October 2020 20:47 (five years ago)

Zurich?

Having lived in Nantes, this looked really familiar to me. That looks like the Loire.

North end of Pont Mirabeau, Tours.

Alternative Ulsterbus, Thursday, 1 October 2020 22:38 (five years ago)

With the first image north end of the Pont Napoleon.

Voulez-vous un coup d'etat, ce soir? (Sanpaku), Thursday, 1 October 2020 22:56 (five years ago)

Or actually, from the Ile Simon that the Pont Napoleon passes over.

Voulez-vous un coup d'etat, ce soir? (Sanpaku), Thursday, 1 October 2020 22:57 (five years ago)

Oui exactement. Tower in the first pic just looks like a 70s block with a weird pitched roof added to match surrounding buildings.

Alternative Ulsterbus, Thursday, 1 October 2020 23:16 (five years ago)

right, i should have written "same river, different bridge"

sorry if that threw anybody off xp

Ah, blast, I missed that! I had even stripped the gps data from the exif. Edited now to remove the credit. Not my photo btw - apologies to the photographer for nabbing the image for entertainment purposes.

brain (krakow), Friday, 2 October 2020 11:22 (five years ago)

Thanks for the tip off and not revealing the answer ledge. I'm sure someone will get it in the more traditional manner before too long.
