However, AFAIK the major voter suppression tactics don't happen at anywhere near the US scale in Canada, but we haven't had a national election manage over 70% turnout since, apparently, 1988, and now tends to hover around 65%. So I suspect generalized alienation is also in the air in a major way.

I mean, they could all be Trumpoids out to stick it to the libs...

Didn't you hear that Trump supporters get to vote twice this time? It's a new rule.

I don't see a lot of MAGA gear in that photo

I think in most, if not all states that you can't wear campaign merch at a polling place.

"...And the Gods Socially Distanced" (C. Grisso/McCain), Friday, 18 September 2020 17:12 (five years ago)

MAGA assholes won't even wear masks, you think a simple law will stop them from wearing Trump swag?

Josh in Chicago, Friday, 18 September 2020 17:14 (five years ago)

If you're standing in line to vote, not working or campaigning (handing out Trump literature, etc.), wearing a MAGA hat would be fine.

Donald Trump Also Sucks, Of Course (milo z), Friday, 18 September 2020 17:15 (five years ago)

(Actually, if you're just standing in line to vote, head to toe Trump 2020 swag would be fine, legally, if a fashion war crime.)

Donald Trump Also Sucks, Of Course (milo z), Friday, 18 September 2020 17:17 (five years ago)

You're going there to vote, not for a fashion show

Muswell Hillbilly Elegy (President Keyes), Friday, 18 September 2020 17:23 (five years ago)

I've pointed out that in Miami the most masked citizens are the most MAGA.

Karl Malone, Friday, 18 September 2020 17:35 (five years ago)

In my experience, at least once you are in the polling room, you have to remove any campaign apparel before you get your ballot/voting machine password. So, the theoretical chud head to toe in MAGA swag would be up shit creek.

I think more Biden voters will early vote more than the polling indicates or pundits think rather than vote by mail-- they've heard enough post office nightmare stories and they want him out. I requested an absentee ballot but will drop it in a Dropbox rather than trust the mail. BTW Virginia is great for early voting it's like 6 weeks. Maryland gets a piddling week of early voting.

Boring, Maryland, Friday, 18 September 2020 18:41 (five years ago)

NJ will be sending out ballots sometime in the next two weeks, I believe. I'll be dropping mine in a box the day I get it.

but also fuck you (unperson), Friday, 18 September 2020 18:45 (five years ago)

Vote by mail is less accessible in Texas, but either way I'd probably be planning to vote in person.

Mario Meatwagon (Moodles), Friday, 18 September 2020 18:48 (five years ago)

sorry he's in favor of WHAT

Voting starts in Virginia TODAY, and we are going to WIN. You have a crazy Governor who wants to take away your guns, which he will do without me in office. He is in favor of executing babies after birth - this isn’t late-term abortion, this is a step way beyond! Vote for me...

What about 74 yo babies?

James Gandolfini the Grey (PBKR), Friday, 18 September 2020 19:19 (five years ago)

"The infant would be delivered. The infant would be kept comfortable for 74 years. The infant would be resuscitated if that's what the mother and the family desired. And then a discussion would ensue between the physicians and the mother."

Wessonality Crisis (Old Lunch), Friday, 18 September 2020 19:38 (five years ago)

Wait, executing babies after birth? Does he mean... the death penalty? They should definitely stop that.

Josh in Chicago, Friday, 18 September 2020 19:45 (five years ago)

Anyway, I heard that Trump eats babies, so there.

Josh in Chicago, Friday, 18 September 2020 19:45 (five years ago)

lol i guess?

WASHINGTON — After months of heated accusations and painstaking negotiations, the White House and the pharmaceutical industry neared agreement late last month on a plan to make good on President Trump’s longstanding promise to lower drug prices.

The drug companies would spend $150 billion to address out-of-pocket consumer costs and would even pick up the bulk of the co-payments that older Americans shoulder in Medicare’s prescription drug program.

Then the agreement collapsed. The breaking point, according to four people familiar with the discussions: Mark Meadows, Mr. Trump’s chief of staff, insisted the drug makers pay for $100 cash cards that would be mailed to seniors before November — “Trump Cards,” some in the industry called them.

1. So I spoke to the head of the Federal Election Commission today.

He told me the separation of church and state is a "fallacy," that Trump's 2017 EO allows faith leaders to endorse candidates, and that the 2020 election is a "spiritual war." https://t.co/erL9zANrIj

Just constantly aghast at the pettiness of Trump’s corruption. Dick Cheney would have promised the drug companies money on the back end to get those cards, then made them redeemable only at whichever pharmacy chain was owned by one of his friends.

I think more Biden voters will early vote more than the polling indicates or pundits think rather than vote by mail-- they've heard enough post office nightmare stories and they want him out.

That would be my guess too--that those long lines being reported today are filled with Biden voters. Probably not a majority, but a good number ( at least 30%?).
