my parents live quite near the Main Line and yeah it's pretty blue. In fact they've gone from tax-hating Republicans when they moved there 22 years ago to canvassing for Dems

not right at all (rob), Thursday, 17 September 2020 22:42 (five years ago)

I'm so glad that @BernieSanders went on Joe Rogan's podcast and legitimized him.🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄

PS: I hate everybody and everything.

Donald Trump Also Sucks, Of Course (milo z), Thursday, 17 September 2020 22:43 (five years ago)

xposts to rob and Josh in Chicago— Yeah, I mean I guess it's gotten a lot less Repub since I left at 18, even.

That said, there are tons of wild-ass people in Delco (drove through Clifton Heights, Drexel Hill, etc) who have some of the biggest Trump shit I've ever seen, so at least the "racist Catholic from Delco" vote is still there, unfortunately.

healthy cocaine off perfect butts (the table is the table), Thursday, 17 September 2020 23:10 (five years ago)

I will also say, though, that I'm pretty certain that many on the Main Line who would normally vote party ticket are splitting it more as Trumpism gains hold. A lot of people coming to the realization much too late that their party is one of absolutely ghoulish sociopaths. And also, "gauche."

healthy cocaine off perfect butts (the table is the table), Thursday, 17 September 2020 23:12 (five years ago)

Bernie legitimised Fox News 😡😡😡😡😡

erratic wolf angular guitarist (sic), Thursday, 17 September 2020 23:13 (five years ago)

Which is gross, of course, but if some otherwise normy suburban repub doesn't like 45 and will vote against him because he's "a classless, tacky fool," (as one of my mom's friend's once described him, accurately), then I'm fine with that.

healthy cocaine off perfect butts (the table is the table), Thursday, 17 September 2020 23:14 (five years ago)

My mom is in Southeastern PA, right on the border between Chester and Delaware county, And that blue momentum in what used to be a relatively reliable Republican leaning suburb does not seem to be letting up.

Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 17 September 2020 23:17 (five years ago)

Yeah, my parents are in Montco. We moved out there when I was ten, which was a strange experience for a city kid, but had its bright spots... as well as its many bad ones!

This town hall is an in-kind contribution to the Biden campaign.

— Jason Miller (@JasonMillerinDC) September 18, 2020

Trump's town hall was also a donation in-kind to the Biden campaign.

avellano medio inglés (f. hazel), Friday, 18 September 2020 01:55 (five years ago)

I didn't watch the town hall but my friend texted me freaking out that Biden completely lost the plot in the last question. Was it that bad? He basically said it seemed like Biden had an aneurysm.

Also, coming here to post this zing; too bad Swalwell dropped out so soon, but maybe the US isn't ready for what's ILX-level lulz in the White House.

*And then she’d be sexually assaulted. https://t.co/DbKRDpTI6x

mellon collie and the infinite bradness (BradNelson), Friday, 18 September 2020 02:25 (five years ago)

He basically said it seemed like Biden had an aneurysm.

Did he die on stage? Or merely collapse into unconciousness? Because brain aneurysms do that. iow, hyperbole isn't helpful.

the unappreciated charisma of cows (Aimless), Friday, 18 September 2020 02:32 (five years ago)

Seems like his brain's working OK:

Anderson Cooper: "Do you see ways that you've benefited from white privilege?"

Joe Biden: "Sure, I’ve benefited just because I don’t have to go through what my Black brothers and sisters have had to go through." https://t.co/Kq9dEuaeSe pic.twitter.com/PQVyxLCQia

— The Hill (@thehill) September 18, 2020

Biden, in an embarrassing senior moment, recites the divergent biological methods of two possible vaccines (molecular structure versus immune system enhancement) and also details the chemical specifics how they have to be stored and transported.

Awkward!

but also fuck you (unperson), Friday, 18 September 2020 02:50 (five years ago)

This is the phase of the campaign where people who normally work the Brave Independent Leftist or Classical Liberal position just rip the mask off and reveal themselves to be working for Trump. https://t.co/AZRfZb1z2X

— Roy Edroso (@edroso) September 18, 2020

The closer we get to the election, the more you will notice these accounts talking about cancel culture and how the 1619 Project is reverse racist and Biden looking senile and before you know it Donald Trump is retweeting Matt Taibbi on the regular.

https://www.vanityfair.com/news/2020/09/jared-kushner-let-the-markets-decide-covid-19-fate

Kushner, seated at the head of the conference table, in a chair taller than all the others, was quick to strike a confrontational tone. “The federal government is not going to lead this response,” he announced. “It’s up to the states to figure out what they want to do.”

One attendee explained to Kushner that due to the finite supply of PPE, Americans were bidding against each other and driving prices up. To solve that, businesses eager to help were looking to the federal government for leadership and direction.

“Free markets will solve this,” Kushner said dismissively. “That is not the role of government.”

The same attendee explained that although he believed in open markets, he feared that the system was breaking. As evidence, he pointed to a CNN report about New York governor Andrew Cuomo and his desperate call for supplies.

“That’s the CNN bullshit,” Kushner snapped. “They lie.”

According to another attendee, Kushner then began to rail against the governor: “Cuomo didn’t pound the phones hard enough to get PPE for his state…. His people are going to suffer and that’s their problem.”

(From 538) "In fact, Pennsylvania is so important that our model gives Trump an 84 percent chance of winning the presidency if he carries the state — and it gives Biden a 96 percent chance of winning if Pennsylvania goes blue."

Avoid polls, I know. Nevertheless, that combination looks promising.

Muswell Hillbilly Elegy (President Keyes), Friday, 18 September 2020 13:10 (five years ago)

Look, there's just no equivalence.

Biden makes some false and misleading claims. It's important to note them. We will. But his assertions of fact have been largely factual.

Trump, as we saw at the town hall and see again tonight, has been incessantly and egregiously dishonest.

— Daniel Dale (@ddale8) September 18, 2020

this is what she retweeted btw. I don't see where he's calling her an idiot, or even responding to her tweet.

Muswell Hillbilly Elegy (President Keyes), Friday, 18 September 2020 13:12 (five years ago)

Yeah, mookieproof, I'm really confused by your interpretation of events here. Alter's tweet was an obvious joke.

I like this Dale tweet from last night:

Trump is in Wisconsin making his usual false claims about Biden, polls, CNN, the Green New Deal, wind power, tariffs, China, monument-damage laws, Democrats-and-suburbs, judicial vacancies, pandemic travel restrictions, other subjects.

You've read my fact checks before.

— Daniel Dale (@ddale8) September 18, 2020

I couldn't tell what Dale was referring too in that by looking at Alter's feed alone.

Massive line of voters in Fairfax, Virginia, on the FIRST DAY of in-person early voting. Some voters say they showed up because they lost faith in USPS to deliver ballots. Officials tell CNN they've never seen anything like this on Day One. pic.twitter.com/uFDSfMINWX

I mean, they could all be Trumpoids out to stick it to the libs...but I don't see a lot of MAGA gear in that photo, and I can't imagine they'd be able to withstand the urge to go head to toe on the big day.

imo best to say "oh, that's interesting" and not even attempt to read anything into it at all yet

VA is reliably blue now anyway, right?

not right at all (rob), Friday, 18 September 2020 15:54 (five years ago)

yes, not to "both sides" it but in this case it's true. far right people actually believe there's a vote by mail scandal/conspiracy, so they want to vote in person. and i'd guess some people on the left want to vote in person so that we'll have a better chance to beat trump on election night, rather than going through the hell of watching trump "win" on election night and then lose 3 to 90 days later, when the vote by mail ballots are counted and most of the lawsuits are starting to wrap up

Karl Malone, Friday, 18 September 2020 15:54 (five years ago)

xp

Karl Malone, Friday, 18 September 2020 15:54 (five years ago)

also, trump is still _actively trying_ to make USPS as ineffective as possible. there's still another month and a half.

don't get me wrong, i am itching to vote by mail, as soon as my ballot arrives. but i wouldn't blame people for wanting to vote in person as soon as they can, for the same reason, just to lock it in

Karl Malone, Friday, 18 September 2020 15:57 (five years ago)

Yeah, mookieproof, I'm really confused by your interpretation of events here

obviously not getting my hopes up but it wouldn't exactly surprise me if Trump loses in a landslide due to bigger-than-expected turnout in every state. turnout has been high in every election since 2016 and I think the "X factor" in this election when it comes to undecided/people who don't normally vote is just how fucking sick people are of Donald Trump right now.

frogbs, Friday, 18 September 2020 16:02 (five years ago)

It just continues to blow my mind that the turnout has not been over 60% since '68. It seems realistic that it should be at least the highest since then.

It's almost like the political process is hopelessly alienating for a huge number of people. (In addition to voter suppression, etc.)

Simon H., Friday, 18 September 2020 16:19 (five years ago)

I mean... a good chunk of that alienation is fed and encouraged by voter suppression; it's not a throwaway aside.
