socialist dog mom is actually rad af. good follow (or was before I quit twitter)

On closer inspection, that is quality content. However, genuine as it no doubt is, that name feels like Babylonbee-level strawpersoning.

But that's just me. Carry on.

"...And the Gods Socially Distanced" (C. Grisso/McCain), Monday, 14 September 2020 20:39 (five years ago)

lol fair

friend of a friend has met and vouches for socialistdogmom. one of the few reliably good Twitter accts tbh

unpaid intern at the darvo institute (Simon H.), Monday, 14 September 2020 21:15 (five years ago)

xp Since no one has actually quoted these dastardly people, kind of weird to assume that's their take.

You’re right, I was strawmanning there. But if you’ve really never seen a “and you’re surprised?” take in response to something outrageous but not unprecedented, I am jealous.

rob, Monday, 14 September 2020 21:25 (five years ago)

Citing the multiplicity of similar verified atrocities in the past might be helpful for infrming those who were unaware of them and whose first reaction might otherwise be disbelief, as in 'how could this possibly be true?' Citing one knowledge of those past atrocities in order to preen oneself on superior wokeness is not helpful at all. tbr these two kinds of citations may be difficult to tease apart.

xp - I rarely see those where the subtext isn't historical context and/or acting as a watchword for the future.

What those gosh-darn leftists said on Twitter today is easy red meat for ILX it seems but it usually seems to be a studied ignorance of their point that while "we should be outraged and surprised anew every. fucking. time. this happens" it doesn't really work out that way. The outrage and surprise tends to ebb depending on who's in power. (Which might be the real offense taken by ILXors...)

No problem with that. I definitely have seen the thing I was referring to, but whatever, I feel like an asshole for steering this horrific news into a convo about twitter dynamics of all things

If Biden and Trump have a Rogan podcast debate, it's only fair if they also do a WTF

Donald Trump Also Sucks, Of Course (milo z), Monday, 14 September 2020 22:06 (five years ago)

Ive never listens to Rogan’s podcast but apparently he never pushes back against anybody no matter which side of the aisle or how idiotic their rhetoric so obviously Trump would love him to moderate a debate

Evans on Hammond (evol j), Monday, 14 September 2020 23:35 (five years ago)

I've basically only listened to episodes with Brian Greene and a sleep scientist I forget the name of, but clip of him with Candace Owens talking about climate change was in my YouTube feed and I had to see if he pushed back on her bullshit. He did.

A True White Kid that can Jump (Granny Dainger), Monday, 14 September 2020 23:41 (five years ago)

I managed to put my general distaste for Rogan aside when a clip of him tepidly pushing back on that fuckwit Dave Rubin was making the rounds. watching this grifter getting ever so mildly owned by a complete dullard like Rogan was admittedly kind of satisfying.

A-B-C. A-Always, B-Be, C-Chooglin (will), Tuesday, 15 September 2020 00:06 (five years ago)

yeah was kind of nice to see him call bullshit on Andy Ngo to his face

obviously having Ngo on at all is indefensible

the thing about Rogan is that he is just an extremely gullible man

frogbs, Tuesday, 15 September 2020 00:18 (five years ago)

didn't he already say he is voting for Trump?

my neighbor just put up a Trump sign and I'm irrationally angry about it. we weren't exactly best friends but he was a fun guy to drink & watch sports with, plus he was exactly the sort of person you wanted at your poker table if you know what I mean. never talked politics, seemed kinda uninformed at general, but yeah idk if I wanna see this guy any more, which is awkward because he's still texting me and wanting to hang out (strange because I've told him a number of times we're not seeing anyone right now due to the pandemic he seems to be unaware of). I know that makes me the "intolerant" one and I know 63 million people voted Trump including a lot of people I know but fuck him, what little benefit of the doubt I've given people after 2016 upon seeing how insanely uninformed people are is all gone now, the only reason you can continue to support Trump now is because you love to piss off people like me or you think America should be free of people like my kids

I know we discussed this a lot in 2016 but this is part of why I fucking hate this guy so much. I've always had conservative friends who "don't follow politics" and yeah I thought it was shitty when people continued to support GWB but at least there was some flimsy justification for it..."he was mislead", "he was dealt a bad hand", "can't fault him for wanting everyone to have a home", with Trump it's just...nothing. it's the most indefensible political movement I've ever seen in my life and everyone who supports it is garbage.

frogbs, Tuesday, 15 September 2020 14:39 (five years ago)

Nothing irrational about your anger tbh.

pomenitul, Tuesday, 15 September 2020 14:40 (five years ago)

I think anyone who votes for Trump this year should be sealed in a shipping container and sunk to the ocean floor so your reaction seems mild fwiw.

Don't be such an idot. (Old Lunch), Tuesday, 15 September 2020 14:46 (five years ago)

My neighborhood is smothered in Trump signs.

TikTok to the (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 15 September 2020 14:47 (five years ago)

I'm sure I've shared this at some point before, but the mention of W triggered a memory. I started my first job out of grad school in June of 2000 and, for the most part, I liked my boss pretty well despite some annoying quirks. Kinda had to, since when the office I worked in was opened, I was only the third employee. Anyway, my opinion changed when I got his 2000 Christmas card in the mail that featured his family huddled around their Bush 2000 yard sign with huge smiles on their faces.

Karl Malone, Tuesday, 15 September 2020 14:50 (five years ago)

Driving home from the grocery store today I saw a house with its US flag hanging upside down and a Biden/Harris flag flying beneath it, so...folks are not hiding their opinions.

but also fuck you (unperson), Tuesday, 15 September 2020 14:50 (five years ago)

My town always leans super liberal, so Biden/Harris signs outnumber the Trump signs probably 20:1 (hell, there are probably still more Bernie signs than Trump signs) and a lot of upside down flags appeared this year, so not helpful to judge around here at all.

As I mentioned, seeing Biden signs slightly outnumber Trump signs in the very conservative Bay City, Michigan was a tiny balm last week.

soaring skrrrtpeggios (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Tuesday, 15 September 2020 14:54 (five years ago)

I mean, signs don't mean shit other than these people are fired up. My county is deep blue. Democrats here tend to think signs are vulgar or something. It is, however, enervating to see on my morning walks those MAGA flaps crisply flapping

TikTok to the (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 15 September 2020 14:56 (five years ago)

It might be time to put my Impeach the Racist President sign up in my apartment again. every couple weeks something new happens

Karl Malone, Tuesday, 15 September 2020 15:01 (five years ago)

Oh I know, as I mentioned upthread, yard signs are essentially meaningless but, spending so much time in central Michigan over the last decade I was heartened to see any sign of inspiration for Biden/Harris.

soaring skrrrtpeggios (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Tuesday, 15 September 2020 15:01 (five years ago)

the people in my neighborhood who put up "Love Lives Here" signs when everyone else was putting out "Hate Has No Home Here" signs have now put up Trump 2020 signs too

Muswell Hillbilly Elegy (President Keyes), Tuesday, 15 September 2020 15:03 (five years ago)

we got one guy who has Trump signs with a swastika and spraypainted over it and another that says "Republican EmbaraSSment" with the Schutzstaffel logo over the SS. It's pretty striking.

frogbs, Tuesday, 15 September 2020 15:05 (five years ago)

i'm going to go ahead and prepare "my neighbors who like trump fucking SUCK - come fight me" and "regarding the physical confrontation with the trump blowhards across the street last weekend - i am twice as powerful now and ready to kick your ass" signs

Karl Malone, Tuesday, 15 September 2020 15:10 (five years ago)

the people in my neighborhood who put up "Love Lives Here" signs when everyone else was putting out "Hate Has No Home Here" signs

I have no idea what this signifies

trapped out the barndo (crüt), Tuesday, 15 September 2020 15:17 (five years ago)

Yeah I don't know that I've seen "Love Lives Here". We mostly get BLM and those "In this house we believe hate has no home, no human is illegal, science is real etc" signs.

soaring skrrrtpeggios (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Tuesday, 15 September 2020 15:19 (five years ago)

I've been back and forth from the DC area to western PA while taking care of some family issues and not surprisingly Trumpmania is running wild there, more so than 4 years ago it seems.

Chris L, Tuesday, 15 September 2020 15:20 (five years ago)

Took my kid to play fall baseball Sunday to a white-flight suburb about half an hour outside the city. Listened to two Trump supporters in the bleachers, loudly:

Telling dumb Nancy Pelosi joke.

Crowing about their huge new Trump sign in their yard.

Planning their trip to an outstate Trump rally (because he talks to the American people better than any president ever has.)

Opining that Trump was "really chosen to lead in these times." She didn't say chosen by God, but that was the gist.

It was at item #4 that I gave them a huge death stare and moved to the other side of the ballfield.

Orson Well Yeah (Dan Peterson), Tuesday, 15 September 2020 15:22 (five years ago)

why did you persecute them like that

Karl Malone, Tuesday, 15 September 2020 15:29 (five years ago)

gotta recycle my dad's immortal retort, from the time when we were on a touristy mountain peak in colorado, and some random people in a car told him to get off of the moss he was standing on and back on the trail (there were signs everywhere saying to stay on the trail):

"...those are exactly the kind of people who are going to drive off and get an ABORTION!"

Karl Malone, Tuesday, 15 September 2020 15:39 (five years ago)

it was like, the immediate, gut, inner-id-level response

they put the abortion clinic on the top of the mountain to make it easier for the ecofascists to yell at american patriots on the road to perdition. and i heard that carter endorsed extra funding for the road because he's a democrat

Karl Malone, Tuesday, 15 September 2020 15:56 (five years ago)

haha, sorry thread. for today and most of recent days as well.

september 15, 2020: not anywhere close to the month or day or year i will choose to return to, if i ever get a chance in some cryogenic/time travel lab

Karl Malone, Tuesday, 15 September 2020 15:57 (five years ago)

Lucky to live in one of the biggest left bastions in my metro area, so no Trump signs here yet... to give you an idea of the environment, the shithead racists known as the Proud Boys are holding a rally at the park where the farmers market takes place each Saturday, at the same time as the farmers market. The yapping swastikas are calling it 'The Belly of the Beast' rally.

healthy cocaine off perfect butts (the table is the table), Tuesday, 15 September 2020 17:07 (five years ago)

'The Belly of the Beast' is stolen straight from the 1960s radical left.
