Ah fuck, one of the ECM greats. I loved the synergy between him and Paul Bley above all. RIP.

yep he was a class player and some of them Bley albums he's on are among my alltime ECM faves. RIP

Now it appears the reports on Gary's death may be a hoax, which indeed would be good news!

Director/actor Jiri Menzel, 82. Closely Watched Trains is probably his biggest title, but don't miss Larks on a String.

Looks like it's been confirmed.

Sadly, the news of the great bassist Gary Peacock's death has been confirmed by his family, so I've expanded and reposted my Blue Moment tribute: https://t.co/KhlaElsOCA

https://www.nytimes.com/2020/08/31/obituaries/aldir-blanc-mendes-dead.htm

Aldir Blanc samba lyricist RIP from Covid at 73 . with a guitarist named João Bosco who wrote the music, he wrote the lyrics for “O Bêbado e a Equilibrista” (“The Drunk and the Tightrope Walker”), written in 1978, was ostensibly about a Charlie Chaplin film."....subtly criticized Brazil’s government and called for the peaceful return of political refugees. Sung soulfully by Elis Regina, it became a kind of amnesty anthem and a popular call for the reinstitution of democracy.....his songs reflecting the hardscrabble lives and language of the working-class neighborhoods where he lived, according to Hugo Sukman, the author of “Parallel Stories — 50 Years of Brazilian Music” (2011).

Just a few slices of apple, Servant. Thank you. How delicious. (stevie), Thursday, 10 September 2020 12:43 (five years ago)

There was some internet thing going around asking "most underrated act?" and Jason Isbell responded pretty quickly with "Los Lobos" (which is fair, imo). I'd not really thought about it that much, but when I did I kinda thought "Kool & the Gang."

nashwan, Thursday, 10 September 2020 13:39 (five years ago)

I had some experiences with the Bells. They lived in my town and Kool's sone went to my high school, first guy I knew with a beeper. After I got into music production I learned there was a famous recording studio hidden away directly across the street from my house more or less so I went by and got myself a summer internship. It was called the House Of Music. Bat Out of Hell, Synergy, Patti Smith, Dr. Buzzard and many other big names recorded there. It was attached to/associated with another studio run by the Bells who's name I can't remember but I used to make them coffee and stuff.

RIP Alan Minter, a boxer who was also mentioned in The Fall's 'Fit and Working Again'

Everyone at Sky Sports is deeply saddened to hear of the passing of British boxing great, Alan Minter, aged 69.

Alan was an Olympian and unified middleweight champion who shared the ring with some of the very best our sport has ever seen. He'll be thoroughly missed. pic.twitter.com/DuhLJ7a1Zv

Apparently his Imaro character is getting a tv series, sad that he couldn't see it. The last couple of books were self-published and he has been very obscure for a long time.
