Thinking about all the stuff Chadwick Boseman made and did after a devastating diagnosis and in the midst of what must have been absolutely grueling treatments. And all that with no one outside his circle catching on at all. Truly an amazing talent. What a cruel, cruel loss. RIP

I’m glad he had the privacy he clearly wanted. Someone said on Twitter that his circle clearly was the best and I’ll be thinking about that for a long while to come. That’s Bowie level.

This is a heavy loss. He was already among the greats, but also only getting started. Just terrible.

it's incredible to think of the passion that drove him to continue creating while being in immense pain/feeling weak. a friend of mine currently has stage 4 colon cancer and is only a few years younger than Chadwick - some days I've visited to drop off groceries for him during a treatment week, he barely has the strength to get out of bed, and is on a cocktail of medications that causes a myriad of side effects - nausea, sensitivity to cold, etc. (naturally, this news got to him very badly yesterday).

having to push through all of that to shoot Hollywood movies, which can be a grueling thing to do when you are healthy, is just....wow.

his charisma, presence, and gravitas as Black Panther was unmatched. his disappearance during Thanos's "snap" actually affected me the most of all of the characters who blinked out.

I loved learning that Phylicia Rashad (and an unwitting Denzel Washington) were early mentors.

This death is hitting much harder than usual, given all of the attendant circumstances. And given how, IME, kids are so into Black Panther in particular.

Boseman was a skilled, charismatic actor who specialized in inhabiting black icons and died too young in a surprising fashion. That is gonna fuck people up under the best of the circumstances but, in a moment where the senseless death of young black men is so prominent among a sizable segment of daily media and life, the too-soon death of the Black Panther just feels cruel.
