My momma bought me beans from Bump 'n' Grind in Silver Spring MD. Really good. She loves me, or at least she loves coffee and wants to share her addiction.

I had to give up coffee,other than the rare decaf cappuccino, had to accept it makes me hyper-anxious and annoys my bowels. I miss the buzz. I drink a decent amount of tea as befits someone from Britain,the decrease in caffeine per dose really makes a difference for me.

Still a very sad situation.

I switched to a hand grinder while on vacation and first few batches the grind was too fine for the dripper I’m using and coffee tasted kind of flat and had some bitter notes. Today I got it to a coarser grind that is working for me.

We are treating ourselves to one of these Technivorm Mocca Masters. It's such a lovely-looking thing. Plus, you know, coffee.

A friend of mine got me a bag of her favorite coffee. I really don't like it but it would be wasteful to throw. it away. Is there a cake recipe or something that will use a pound of coffee

Botched my first pourover today and had to toss it and make a new one, so that helped.

How about poundcake, but substitute coffee for the flour? Texture might be lacking but I bet it would be memorable.

My wife bought a giant bag of costco coffee out of panic in march and it is shitty as pour over / french press but is surprisingly good as cold brew

it is pretty cute. i'd like an electric kettle but i can't have any more things sitting on my small counter space. my oxo kettle doesn't whistle anymore because it fell from a top shelf and the whistle broke :(

Fwiw just realized that bodum makes an almost as nice looking electric gooseneck kettle for $35. Maybe I’ll get that when I eventually replace my shitty one.

In fact even the Hario one is only $72. So fuck that.

We've been using a stainless steel french press for years, neither of us drink enough coffee at home to justify more than that. Beans are the organic fair trade from Aldi, which are a fabulous deal, though obviously not the best coffee I've ever had.

Our lime green Moccamaster is the business. The coffee is great, and it looks like we have a tiny old airport in our kitchen. We have it on a timer so the coffee is ready when we get up in the morning. Ok, that means husband has to prep the coffee the night before, but it's worth it.

Coffee makes me feel good :)

People in my entourage have been hyping up the AeroPress for years so I finally decided to get one without trying it first (covid ftw) and… I kind of hate it. No crema whatsoever, a bland yield on par with filter coffee – the type of coffee I dislike the most – even when you're aiming for a concentrated espresso. I'm gonna stick to my Bialetti and the occasional Turkish coffee.

Aeropress is plunger coffee, full stop. i.e. not real coffee (CONTROVERSIAL STANCE)

AeroPress takes some dialing in. Give it a week? It can be frustratingly finicky, but I found it made better coffee when I used a good “recipe” from any of a number of websites

Cool, I'll be sure to experiment.

I'm sure an aeropress is capable of making good coffee, I just can't get down with the idea that it makes "good espresso." Espresso requires temperature and pressure, and engineering gimmicks do not enable you to achieve the result by hand.

In my experience Aeropress makes something closer to an Americano. It's not very similar to Espresso at all. It tends to brew a milder, sweeter cup than a filter method.

Claim: 'The AeroPress is ideal for any coffee lover looking for a rich and smooth cup of coffee without acidity or bitterness. Brews one to three delicious cups of American or espresso style coffee in about a minute'.

Reality: neither rich nor smooth nor espresso.

My first aero press cup was so obviously not espresso that I got over that dream immediately and appreciated it for what it was. But honestly I mostly gave up as pour over is easier and has less stuff to wash.

Also I just realized I used to have at least 2-3 espressos a week at coffee shops for almost a decade and haven’t had one since March

I've been using Aeropress for a long time, as I've probably mentioned on this thread. My preferred cup is about 22g of medium roast coffee using the inverted method at about 170F, and a stainless steel filter. I hand-grind the beans before each cup I make and I always drink it black. Recently, on hot days I've started doing a lighter iced coffee in the afternoon. I use about 14g of same coffee pressed directly over ice cubes, with a splash of simple syrup and a splash of whole milk. It's not espresso but if it's not rich or smooth you're either using shitty beans or adding too much water to it. With all the methods I've tried, Aeropress is the cleanest purest cup. For me it's super quick, easy to clean, and portable. There are days when I think about how nice it would be to have some fancy machine make it for me, though.

Aeropress for me is all about making quick, single-cup concentrates. Whether hot or cold, I’m still grinding slightly finer and steeping way longer with hotter water than prescribed, then diluting with hot or iced water as either case requires. The typical aeropress recipe (from the manual) is bodyless, but the inverted techniques seem too precious to bother with. I can get close enough to my desired result without having to tare and weigh at every step of the process. I am also too cheap to buy a scale.

For pourover, I use the cheap plastic melitta unit that cost $2.99 (when I picked it up a decade ago) and four tbsp(?) scoops of fresh grounds to achieve a 12oz mug. I’ve never had a bad result. I sometimes do a “bloom” but haven’t noticed a significant difference from when I don’t.

My aero press has big gouges along the inside where the grounds must have scraped the plastic so I can’t try any of the interred methods - the seal isn’t tight enough.

Also a kitchen scale is one of those things that I never thought much of until I got one and I weigh EVERYTHING now. It is truly one of the most (subtly) life changing items I own.

Fixed myself the usual cup of moka this morning, and it's just so much more flavourful than the AeroPress. I'll give it another shot after lunch.
