New Liberal Democrat leader today?

the pinefox, Thursday, 27 August 2020 09:41 (five years ago)

xp Look, as long as they don't work with politicians, what's the danger?

Andrew Farrell, Thursday, 27 August 2020 09:43 (five years ago)

Electing a slimeball knight of the realm with ConDem baggage as the new party leader would such a bold move for the LibDems lol

calzino, Thursday, 27 August 2020 09:59 (five years ago)

Re: £13. It's a similar mindset to the discourse around the $1200 cheque at the beginning of the pandemic. "What if this one time universal benefit is a higher amount than we've ever earned for a month's actual work?". It needs to be low, the poor should never get the insight that money can be printed and your needs can be taken care of. Or that wage theft is a thing.

Ed Davey got nearly twice as many votes as Layla Moran despite being almost entirely invisible for the last nine months. Great job lads.

Matt DC, Thursday, 27 August 2020 10:39 (five years ago)

It's like they saw Starmer and wanted their own even less charismatic version

Layla join the...Greens?

imago, Thursday, 27 August 2020 10:44 (five years ago)

the ideal retirement home for quirky Lib Dems

A Short Film About Scampoes (Noodle Vague), Thursday, 27 August 2020 10:47 (five years ago)

i find it warmly reassuring that Lib Dems are gonna continue to Lib Dem, forever and ever and ever

A Short Film About Scampoes (Noodle Vague), Thursday, 27 August 2020 10:47 (five years ago)

Moran really is in the wrong gig though

imago, Thursday, 27 August 2020 10:48 (five years ago)

i think you make a statement about yourself the day you decide to join the Liberal Democrats

A Short Film About Scampoes (Noodle Vague), Thursday, 27 August 2020 10:50 (five years ago)

Ed Davey possibly insanely unlikeable every time I’ve seen him on TV

beef stannin’ (gyac), Thursday, 27 August 2020 10:52 (five years ago)

xp Probably true. As long as there's no similar line about the Greens. I can sense Alphie hieing this way apace

Shame Labour have moved into the space the Lib Dems were so excited to move into, eh

imago, Thursday, 27 August 2020 10:54 (five years ago)

it's possible that they're just *all* shit, y'know and we don't need a team to cheer for

however i can envisage decent reasons why one might join the Labour Party or even the Greens, same can't be said for the LDs

A Short Film About Scampoes (Noodle Vague), Thursday, 27 August 2020 10:57 (five years ago)

these aren't football clubs, you only should support them if you feel they are worth supporting. my pro-environment, anti-Starmer vote is going to the Greens.

calzino, Thursday, 27 August 2020 11:01 (five years ago)

even I think the Greens aren't worth shit tbh!

calzino, Thursday, 27 August 2020 11:01 (five years ago)

though

calzino, Thursday, 27 August 2020 11:02 (five years ago)

Did Davey actually campaign?

A Short Film About Scampoes (Noodle Vague), Thursday, 27 August 2020 11:03 (five years ago)

god knows, dynasties have risen and fallen, entire batches of jam have been made since their leadership election started. Even their members fell asleep.

calzino, Thursday, 27 August 2020 11:07 (five years ago)

He looks like the pompous market inspector who occasionally turns up in Eastenders. That is the impression they've chosen to present to the electorate.

Also after a month of watching Swinson flounder in the face of furious attacks on her record as a member of the coalition they've come to the brilliant conclusion that what they need is yet another member of the coalition. Other parties at least take an electoral drubbing as a signal that they might need a slight change of direction but these guys just keep walking into the same rake over and over again.

Or push tactical voting.

User anvil is going to say he has big middle manager energy and I agree. Big “your boss who times your toilet breaks” energy.

The Lib Dems having 57.6% turnout in their own leadership election is peak Lib Dem

Kieth just calmly leading as he usually does because Labour melts can post what they like on Twitter. Not that I've seen what was posted but would imagine it was some factional shittalking that no lefty MP would get away with.

calzino, Thursday, 27 August 2020 13:52 (five years ago)

Of course he uses the cry laughing emoji.

Tweets on Tues fell below standards I set myself as well as those expected of me by constituents & Keir Starmer’s Labour Party. As a patriot, I’m v angry about those damaging the UK, undermining our values whilst abusing our flag, but that must not tip into foul language. Sorry.

also "The BBC show which welcomes a conservative view" - what an absolute enigma, just can't believe it etc!

calzino, Thursday, 27 August 2020 23:14 (five years ago)

I campaigned for Neil Coyle to be elected in the first place, because Labour sent me to that constituency. I didn't know who he was or anything. I suppose no-one did at that point. I have often rather regretted it since.

the pinefox, Friday, 28 August 2020 09:13 (five years ago)

we've all given support to people who turned out to be disappointments. Kieth Starmer's mum must be kicking herself.

Vote Labour for Your Usual Way of Life is a strong message tbf

A Short Film About Scampoes (Noodle Vague), Friday, 28 August 2020 15:56 (five years ago)

The polling is pretty starkly against going back to offices (except from over-65s) so definite vote-winner stance again

stet, Friday, 28 August 2020 16:29 (five years ago)

it's just cargo cult Brownism at this point

A Short Film About Scampoes (Noodle Vague), Friday, 28 August 2020 16:36 (five years ago)

I'm obviously not planning to go back to work any time soon but city centres completely stripped of retail, arts, hospitality and service jobs is a pretty bleak prospect. It's easy to say 'cities will adapt, people will retrain, etc' but much harder to imagine how it'll work in practice.

Scampo di tutti i Scampi (ShariVari), Friday, 28 August 2020 17:00 (five years ago)

Yeah, well what about getting some me-time away from your partner who left politics rather than be investigated for sexual harassment of a young woman doing work experience?

santa clause four (suzy), Friday, 28 August 2020 17:00 (five years ago)

Has anyone pointed out to her that there's very little actually preventing people from going into the office if they want to?
