Hegar back to polling 10 points down. Friendship ended. Doug Jones is my new best friend.

I’m guessing the almost psychotic role college football plays in Southern states means these burns are especially great, yes?

Biden still rolling with a 13 point lead in Pennsylvania, 53-40, among RVs in new Monmouth poll. https://t.co/FUA7EiBhTP

— Nate Cohn (@Nate_Cohn) July 15, 2020

Not that you should judge polls this way, but surely the poll unskewers will be disappointed to learn that this sample is even by Party ID and Trump+5 on recalled vote

IIUC this saying a group of people that went for trump by 5 points in 2016 (if they voted) is now going for biden by 13

college football, especially Bama/Auburn, is perhaps the only thing that every single Alabama voter knows and cares about, and since Tuberville doesn't have any other record to run on, it's not even gratuitous to keep dragging him about it ... chef's kiss

wait, are we entertaining the idea that because the republican candidate has nothing of substance to run on, in the state of alabama, they might be in trouble in the election? iirc you can be an openly slimy pedophile with nothing of substance to run on and still nearly win the election as a republican

most people would've forgotten about the Goya thing in a month or so but of course Trump/the GOP stupidly made it into a lifelong boycott thing.

DJI, Wednesday, 15 July 2020 19:57 (three years ago) link

tl,dr - Goya CEO is big Trump supporter and said we're "blessed" to have him as a leader; people rightfully pointed out this is dumb given Trump's treatment of the Latinx community and talked about boycotting, Goya CEO called the boycott "suppression of free speech", Trump, Teddy Cruz and others suddenly developed huge Goya boners and won't shut up about them to the point of Cruz flat out lying about his grandparents eating them in Cuba for longer than they even would have been available there

A donation would probably have slid by - he sucked Trump's dick from a Rose Garden podium. That was what sparked the boycott.

xpost - anyway, here's a data point:

NEW QUINNIPIAC National Poll. Biden leads Trump by 15% (52-37%). In June Q poll, Biden was +8. Trump's job approval is down to 36% approve, 60% disapprove.

hilarious to me how the Right immediately and fervently latches on to anything or anyone famous that voices any sort of support for them, without realizing how pathetic it looks

I say the more boycotts the better. Facebook, Washington's football team ... go figure the thing that finally gets results is people or companies threatening to pull financial support.

Josh in Chicago, Wednesday, 15 July 2020 20:10 (three years ago) link

Trump's average approval rating on March 27th was 47.2%, disapproval at 49.5%, for a net of -2.3%, some of his best numbers in years. Today he's at approval of 41.5, disapproval of 56, for net of -14.5. He's backsliding.

also while Biden's polling an 8+ point lead, Hillary at this point only had a 2.7 point lead nationally and was struggling. and she wasn't against an incumbent.

None of this PROVES anything, but encouraging and proves if we do the work, it's winnable.

Lady Antibody (Neanderthal), Wednesday, 15 July 2020 20:24 (three years ago) link

Trump losing will be like holding your bladder for the duration of a long plane landing and finally getting to the bathroom once you enter the terminal.

Josh in Chicago, Wednesday, 15 July 2020 20:31 (three years ago) link

well there's a pretty good chance there will be several days between the polls closing and a result, given all the postal voting, so you may want to time your bathroom trips with that in mind.

maybe buckle up now if you live in a "left wing" city

President Trump is planning to direct federal law enforcement “help” for Democratic-run cities that have seen a rise in violence this summer, calling them “war zones.”

In a meeting with Attorney General William Barr and other federal officials at the White House on Wednesday, the president said he’ll make a “very exciting” official announcement next week.

“The left-wing group of people that are running our cities are not doing the job that they’re supposed to be doing,” Mr. Trump said in the Oval Office, adding that he will soon announce “what we’re planning to do to help them.”...
