Fucking HELL I'm rarely on Twitter and it's pointless enough not to really wind me up but this RS Archer Brexit shit is back once again - I thought he'd deleted his account - it's really pushing my buttons due to how utterly shit it is, not even good trolling, just fucking tedious and smug beyond belief with the O Gods and lol shoes agh I hate it

just got this NYT alert:

"The twitter accounts of several prominent figures appears to have been hacked - including Joe Biden, Kanye West, Bill Gates and Elon Musk"

would this be a hack into twitter's database? how else would you get into so many different people's accounts?

Within hours of the tweets appearing, nearly 300 people had fallen for the scam, sending more than $100,000 to the wallet.

Feel like this must be some exploit because all those people are going to have security on their accounts right? It’s not like lifting some pleb’s details off a database.

Either way, it's kind of impressive tbh.

They’re still getting away with it. Kim Kardashian hacked three minutes ago.

Strongly speculated that they’ve hacked a Twitter employee with access to whole account database.

Idk why they don’t just take the site down until they’ve fixed it.

The theory I saw that seemed plausible is someone hijacked a service authorized to tweet on behalf of users, eg people used a 3rd party app to schedule tweets, and that app got hacked.

Twitter itself being compromised is less likely, but not out of the question.

Yeah as others have pointed out, this would be a good time to bring back the whale.

FYI what they seem to have done is made their api reject posts to verified accounts as spam, they don’t actually have a “mute everyone” function

And by “seem to” I mean I have heard from people in a position to know

Not necessarily, people are shorting Tesla all day every day (and on balance losing shitloads of money on it), it wouldn't be easy to pick you out of the crowds when it started paying out.

lagoon probably means on the hacking side. causing a widely held stock like TSLA to tank would expose you to a lot more legal problems than the Bitcoin scheme, even if they never matched you to the specific short position, which of course they would anyway

I'm not sure why though (on either part)
