Minnesota has a Democratic governor. Minneapolis has a Democratic mayor. The Minneapolis City Council is 12-1 Democratic. The 1 is a Green. Voting alone does not fix this if elected officials remain deferential to the cops. https://t.co/K3a3WU2QSb— Jonathan "Boo and Vote" Cohn (@JonathanCohn) May 29, 2020

a little MN historical "liberalism"
Mayor Art Naftalin (a Humphrey protege) responded by expanding civil rights committees created by Humphrey, even as the state of Minn. received new Pentagon funds for more riot training for the National Guard. Was up until 4 am last few nights, we have a neighborhood watch group that we formed to track all these vehicles creeping or speeding (always one or the other) though our neighborhood.
My friend's neighbor had his fence soaked in gasoline, they found boards soaked in kerosene in the alley. People have been defending the Longfellow Market, the last unburned grocery store in the neighborhood,if that goes we have no place go buy food for people without cars.
I sound like a crazy person but these vehicles are driving around all night. I've seen them. Going to St Paul yesterday a black BMW SUV shot past us on 94, no plates
THE POLICE ARE NOT DOING SHIT TO PROTECT OUR NEIGHBORHOODS
I haven't seen any cruisers patrolling or responding to call
Maybe if they weren't engaged in military fashion shooting at peaceful protesters THEY COULD ACTUALLY DO THEIR FUCKING JOBS

these are beyond dispute at this point, you are one of numerous mpls friends who have seen this in their neighborhoods. I have seen mentioned the added detail of large bags in the backs of these cars, which in light of the police's statement that they have found caches of accelerants in residential neighborhoods...

I’ve been thinking about all the people I know in the area, including ilx people, a lot lately. Hope everyone continues to be safe, and if there’s anything we can do from outside the state, let us know.
I have some friends who considered joining some students driving up from Iowa to peacefully protest and help aid, but I think it was wise they joined local efforts instead. I think having out of state people showing up is more of a risk than anything right now?
― mh, Monday, 1 June 2020 16:50 (three years ago) link

― global tetrahedron, Monday, 1 June 2020 17:32 (three years ago) link
Friend on twitter @msfeatherweight was tweeting out all the mega sus vehicles in their neighborhood last night for example:‘28th street just had 2 vans, an SUV, and 3 sedans with their lights off, going around 50mph, with Identity Evropa regalia’
― valet doberman (Jon not Jon), Monday, 1 June 2020 17:35 (three years ago) link

i think this is true but we've been hampered repeatedly by reports that come up disconfirmed, and then of course there's:
Walz said he got "out over my skis" on reports of people coming from outside area. He said they are still trying to get a better understanding of this.— Jessie Van Berkel (@jessvanb) June 1, 2020

j. I think the outside agitators thing is being overdone in one way - MN is so fucking high on our own supply that we need to believe violent white supremacists are nefariously imported from out of state when they are probably just from Coon Rapids or Lakeville or St. Cloud

but I personally in Minneapolis consider someone from Forest Lake being in the city after curfew just as much of an outsider as someone from Michigan, all due respect to the two Twins games they attend each year

I live in nempls and am kind of shocked at how quiet it has been here, keep waiting for the other shoe to drop
neighbors have found kerosene soaked wood in the alleys and I have seen pics online of bottles of gas and such, but that's really about it other than the shops on Central being boarded up and the police station looking like a Mad Max fort

I've been worried about this place too because of their location. Glad they're doing ok.
Just saw Hymies Records posting that they're doing alright and thanking the support they've had. As I mentioned on the other thread, I feel extra protective over the record stores having got to know a lot of the people working at them. We managed to get boarded up at Agharta and are closed at the moment. Hoping that my boss has been able to get home and get some rest. He had a few long nights staying over at the shop.
My wife's sister and partner live in Minneapolis and said it has been rough by them. They got out of town on Friday as they could see buildings on fire from their home. Heartbreaking to hear my sister in law say they expected to come back to their place being burned down.
Hope that everyone is hanging in there.

I hope that people are recognising the presence of that accelerant and prepared firewood and warning others about it being around. So people have a chance to check for and therefore dispose of it.Sounds nightmarish.
