Why do people leave ILX for good?

I don't think Coates posted enough to count, leaving us with seven ilxors. Four are ostensibly still active to varying degrees, which is more than 50% over a period of almost two decades. That's a pretty good percentage, right? Certainly not enough to warrant a 'where are the snows of yesteryear?'-type lament. Sounds like your main reasons for self-ejecting lie elsewhere, Yelp.

I recently ran into one of TNC's posts while doing an ilx search on an unrelated purpose. Surprised me to see the name used in a year prior to TNC becoming well known. It was articulate, pointed, but nothing deathless, much like your somewhat above-average ilx post.

Otm. TNC posted a handful of posts, addressing one particular topic, no more. This seems like name-dropping for the sake of it. At least Jimmy the Mod awaited the return of his loved ones en publique.

Might spend the 20th anniversary looking up TNC's ilx posts. They must've had a lot of wisdom in them for a lurker/occasional poster to remember them in his goodbye post 17 years later.

He was born in 2003, which was also roughly the time frame when I first joined, although my posting history suggests it was later. I must've lurked for a while.

I don't remember exactly how I found it. I was very active on the Stereolab forum around then, and that may well have been what led me here.

I may have first heard about it through hipinion.

I found Tom Ewing's Best singles of the 1990s some time in 2000, I think, and was reading Freaky Trigger for a while - my first ILX post was February 2001, though I probably lurked for a bit before then.

i bought my first computer immediately following 9/11 after it became clear that physical media was too slow to keep up with the world. Plus the downloading. I found ILX a few months after.

I joined in 2003 but only really lurked. I properly started posting in 2015 (I think). I don't post enough so always feel vaguely like I'm posting from 'outside the room' as it were. I get this with all forums, tbh.

Lol it totally is. The first post under my gov't name was me ribbing him for it. I didn't realize the dude very rarely responded to barbs so I lost interest, came back a year later to talk rap and metal.
