Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Friday, 1 May 2020 17:43 (six years ago)

They started rerunning the original Jennings eps today.

that one-year health update has got me choked up. hadn't seen it before.

treeship., Monday, 4 May 2020 16:43 (six years ago)

Actually they're just re-airing the first Jennings ep today, and the rest of this week they'll have the All-Star tourney w/him & Holtzhauer & Brad from earlier this year.

"...And the Gods Socially Distanced" (C. Grisso/McCain), Monday, 4 May 2020 17:03 (six years ago)

Have they run out of new episodes? There was nothing at the end of Friday’s to indicate that they were showing old stuff this week.

A White, White Gay (cryptosicko), Monday, 4 May 2020 17:19 (six years ago)

i think so. They stopped taping in mid-march and are typically about 6 weeks ahead

turn the jawhatthefuckever on (One Eye Open), Monday, 4 May 2020 17:38 (six years ago)

I believe there’s a tournament or two in the can, probably holding them to space out remaining new content

Clay, Monday, 4 May 2020 21:53 (six years ago)

Pretty dumb to do first-and-last on Jennings instead of the whole run imo. If this ended tomorrow, they'd still take months to get new eps into the pipeline (it's only been so short lately because of Trebek's health absences), might as well milk as many ~events~ as you can

Elon's musk (sic), Tuesday, 5 May 2020 02:55 (six years ago)

They probably can't show all of them due to the horrific racism and sexism no doubt contained in the clues and categories crassly supplied by the Jeopardy writers in those less enlightened times of <checks notes> 2004.

"...And the Gods Socially Distanced" (C. Grisso/McCain), Tuesday, 5 May 2020 03:15 (six years ago)

four months pass...

Man, this Kelly lady on today is reeeeaaaaallllllly happy to be there.

"...And the Gods Socially Distanced" (C. Grisso/McCain), Wednesday, 16 September 2020 17:01 (five years ago)

Clearly no one is traveling to be on the show. Every single contestant this week is from the L.A. area

soaring skrrrtpeggios (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Wednesday, 16 September 2020 17:09 (five years ago)

Yeah, and they said on Monday that the returning champ would not be able to appear right away (presumably due to travel issues/safety).

"...And the Gods Socially Distanced" (C. Grisso/McCain), Wednesday, 16 September 2020 17:21 (five years ago)

Yeah I haven't watched any from this week yet, waiting to get a handful bundled up to power through.

soaring skrrrtpeggios (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Wednesday, 16 September 2020 17:27 (five years ago)

two weeks pass...

they’re starting to expand the contestant pool to the rest of the west coast - someone i know in seattle made it to the second round of zoom auditions yesterday

the portentous pepper (govern yourself accordingly), Saturday, 3 October 2020 15:44 (five years ago)

The Times obit is quite good.

Today we honor Alex Trebek. For over three decades he brought integrity, humor and intelligence to his duties as host of Jeopardy! He will be in our hearts forever.

Thank you, Alex. Love from us all. 💜 pic.twitter.com/w8abYY8SX5

I presume no one knows who Wonderhussy is (I'm a fan), but she appeared on Jeopardy against Ken Jennings in 2003, and she just posted a youtube on the experience.

Jennings named interim host, show goes back into production Nov. 30:

the serious avant-garde universalist right now (forksclovetofu), Tuesday, 24 November 2020 02:45 (five years ago)

wow I heard Ken's name floated a few times but I didn't think they'd actually do it

frogbs, Tuesday, 24 November 2020 02:50 (five years ago)

I heard those two names just floated bandied about in some Jeopardy circles so am not surprised.

Robert Gotopieces (James Redd and the Blecchs), Tuesday, 24 November 2020 02:52 (five years ago)

and yeah Levar would be an awesome choice

someone I know said "there should be a female host, like who's the female Alex Trebek?" and I immediately thought of Jamie Lee Curtis

frogbs, Tuesday, 24 November 2020 02:53 (five years ago)

Sandy Toksvig iirc

Other possible options that come to mind if they wanted a steady solid paycheck and plenty of time off: Morgan Freeman, Patrick Stewart, Laurence Fishburne, Tilda Swinton

That...that is perfect.

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 24 November 2020 03:35 (five years ago)

I have of course shared this concept with Twitter and among the responses:

They would have to switch to the host stating the clue in form of a question. “Whyyyyyyyy....”

— Marc Masters (@Marcissist) November 24, 2020

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 24 November 2020 03:35 (five years ago)

lol yes and like a three minute buildup for every clue
