Whoopi Goldberg leaving the Dreamworks complex in her Mercedes yesterday afternoon.

And then last night at the Jerry's Deli next to the Beverly Center (I don't usually go there since it's overpriced and mediocre quality)...

Tobey Maguire
James Spader
Sam Moore!

Only way it could have been better was if all three were at the same table

Elvis Telecom, Thursday, 29 March 2007 14:31 (nineteen years ago)

in decreasing order of interest, on my recent holidays I saw:

Clint Eastwood buying petrol just outside Celebration, FL
Davis Love III walking down International Drive, Orlando
Julia Foster & Bruce Fogle on my flight from Tampa to Gatwick

ailsa, Thursday, 29 March 2007 19:39 (nineteen years ago)

Joan Cusack at a Bulls game! I didn't recognize her until that put her face on the Jumbotron. She was 3 seats away from me.

Jeff, Thursday, 29 March 2007 22:02 (nineteen years ago)

in the past two months or so:

whoopi goldberg at the calexico taco cart in soho. (she didn't buy anything)

ed koch at an awards ceremony i went to.

sofia coppola on broadway and prince (the day of the oscar broadcast)

impudent harlot, Friday, 30 March 2007 04:34 (nineteen years ago)

Kevin Rowland queued up behind me in the chemist's the other week. He was sort of dressed like a weird cross between a country gent and a Cuban pimp. A sartorial development from my last sighting when the look was more Ali G meets Catweazle. Anyhow, he bought mouthwash and Handy Andies - poor man must have a touch of the sniffles. It's all that hanging around on the front of records in his mum's knickers I think.

Chris Tarrant was in my work local a couple of weeks ago - the Glassblower on the corner of Brewer St & Glasshouse St.

Ooh this week has been a great week for celebrity sighting for me...

Natalie Portman and Peter Gabriel at a conference I was working at.
Johnny Greenwood's cheekbones and jawline just from wandering around town.

!!!

Around where? Is he beardy?

Melissa W, Saturday, 31 March 2007 12:55 (nineteen years ago)

I saw Miranda July at a vegetarian restaurant in Chelsea (which wasn't very good). She was with some dude, and she was making the same over-deliberate "endearing" faces she makes in the film.

And they all had their nobs out.

Mark C, Saturday, 31 March 2007 14:18 (nineteen years ago)

I saw Martin Freeman on Great Marlborough Street last week - he was the only person in Soho wearing sunglasses.

Mark C, Saturday, 31 March 2007 14:18 (nineteen years ago)

Oxford. He was pushing a pram with a kid. There was a lady with another kid behind.

I always forget how sharp his bone structure is.

Ah yes, it is quite sharp. Is he looking good? Or is age creeping up on him yet? :)

One thing I love about the Upper West Side of Manhattan is that you get a more interesting variety of celebrity sighting -- less star power, more fondness. This week has totally delivered for me with two great ones:

1.) Saturday morning, looking really rumpled and messy, crossing Amsterdam somewhere in the 80s -- Garrison Keillor

2.) Just now, standing next to me on the 1 train from 50th to 79th: Richard Kind (who I love), of Mad About You / Spin City not-exactly-"fame."

Richard Kind was double-interesting because (a) just before I left for work I watched the last episode of Spin City before Michael J. Fox left, which is of course kinda teary and lovable (and incidentally makes mention of Fox's character hating a junior senator from Ohio named Alex P. Keaton), plus (b) the only other people who had a noticeable "hey wow that actor is on the train" were black, which may or may not have to do with the last few times I've seen him being on All of Us and Bernie Mac, plus (c) he may have thought I was a big weirdo, because I couldn't help spending the whole ride smiling broadly and thinking "wow Richard Kind! I love that guy! He's so lovable! It makes me smile just looking at him!"

nabisco, Thursday, 5 April 2007 23:51 (nineteen years ago)

i love richard kind too !!! lucky.

chaki, Friday, 6 April 2007 01:36 (nineteen years ago)

gershy, Friday, 6 April 2007 06:28 (nineteen years ago)

i never see famous ppl anymore even though i work at 30 rock (wtf?! where is tina fey?!). i think i saw one dude from snl once (i can't remember which one) and i have seen one of conan's band members a few times.

tehresa, Friday, 6 April 2007 07:18 (nineteen years ago)

i see people from snl all the time and im on the wrong coast! recent sightings: molly shannon, amy pohler, fred armisen.

chaki, Friday, 6 April 2007 07:27 (nineteen years ago)

today at lunch was steve carell eating with his wife at jinkys on ventura blvd then while walking back to the office i saw muhammed ali's daughter coming out of a dance studio! 2 in 1

chaki, Saturday, 7 April 2007 02:49 (nineteen years ago)

doesn't the office film in van nuys?

get bent, Saturday, 7 April 2007 02:57 (nineteen years ago)

fun fact: fred armisen was in one and directed another video for my roommates' band! the one he directed was shot all around my neighborhood/in our basement. i don't know how long ago this all happened, but i secretly wish he'd show up at our house some day for more fun! i am too embarrassed about being starstruck to even ask roomies how they know him!

tehresa, Saturday, 7 April 2007 03:07 (nineteen years ago)

i duno if they film in van nuys but i think steve lives in the hills above ventura blvd.

chaki, Saturday, 7 April 2007 03:08 (nineteen years ago)

apparently you can drive past the dunder mifflin building (aka "chandler studios") on 13927 saticoy st, which is either van nuys or panorama city depending on which source you believe. zip code is 91402. the characters' cars are in the parking lot.

get bent, Saturday, 7 April 2007 03:17 (nineteen years ago)

oh i know where that is.

chaki, Saturday, 7 April 2007 03:18 (nineteen years ago)

chaki, Saturday, 7 April 2007 03:19 (nineteen years ago)

get bent, Sunday, 8 April 2007 00:51 (nineteen years ago)

Most of the cast of Grindhouse + Tarantino at Graumans Chinese last night for the 8pm showing. Also there were Simon Pegg and Chris Parnell.

Elvis Telecom, Sunday, 8 April 2007 07:11 (nineteen years ago)

conversation with friend of a girl i'm friends with who came into my restaurant and sat in my section:

me: so, what do you do?
her: um, i'm in a movie.
me: really? awesome. so, what, is it like an indie or...?
her: uh, no. it's a hollywood movie.
me: wow, that's cool. who's in it?
her: ben stiller
me: holy shit, you're serious? not joking? how much time do you get on the movie, how big is your role?
her: uhh... i'm the main character.

two weeks pass...
Honestly, it's just too good not to tell. So I go to Teddy's on wednesday and see Eve, Elisha Cuthbert, Paris Hilton (standard clientele), and... Sean Penn. My friend's sister steps on his foot, but we were relieved when he's cool about it. 5 minutes after we leave, Eve crashes her Maserati Quattroporte into a median. The big news is that Sean Penn went to visit her in jail at 4am and offered to bail her out! He didn't seem like he was on the make or anything. I think he was just like, 'gotta bail out my drinking buddy'. Also, I may have been freakin' on Eve on the dancefloor...

Spencer Chow, Saturday, 28 April 2007 09:34 (nineteen years ago)

wow. that makes me really wanna befriend sean penn! even moreso than before... also puts elvis costello and philip glass sightings to shame!

i don't know if she's really a celebrity but i also saw caroline rhea while walking down 6th ave after work one day. she looked really shitty and was wearing some of the ugliest pink track pants i have ever seen.

tehresa, Saturday, 28 April 2007 15:28 (nineteen years ago)

Robert de Niro at Trinity Church screening of Passio

Dr Morbius, Monday, 30 April 2007 14:37 (nineteen years ago)

Who or what is Eve?

Sally Phi11ips on Berwick Street, looking pregnant.

Mark C, Monday, 30 April 2007 14:41 (nineteen years ago)

Alison from Big Brother 2002, Epcot Florida.

Dawn says "Oh, there's Alison from BB!" I say "Oh, she looks like her..."

And then she produces a microphone and starts talking into a camera in brummie..

Mark G, Monday, 30 April 2007 14:52 (nineteen years ago)

Oh, I saw someone that looked very like Sandy-that-pissed-in-a-bin-and-jumped-over-the-fence from Big Brother at London City Airport last Sunday. I've still never seen any of the Scottish Big Brother contingent (I must be the only one never to have seen Shahbaz!), though my brother was on first name terms with Cameron's mum when she was flying down for all his eviction nights back in the day.

ailsa, Monday, 30 April 2007 16:06 (nineteen years ago)

Eve is a rapper/singer/actress. She was in Barbershop and, most recently, a mugshot.

Who's Sally Phi11ps.

Ms Misery, Monday, 30 April 2007 16:09 (nineteen years ago)

Comedy actress - Smack the Pony, I'm Alan Partridge, Bridget Jones films, rubbish sitcoms.

Dr.C, Monday, 30 April 2007 16:13 (nineteen years ago)

I fear you're too late (I used to love her too, in Alan Partridge, sigh).

Mark C, Monday, 30 April 2007 16:15 (nineteen years ago)

note: no one asked who ROBERT DE NIRO is

Dr Morbius, Monday, 30 April 2007 16:16 (nineteen years ago)

My dad did, once, when he met him. Well, he came home and told us he'd met some American actor called Robert De Niro and had we heard of him because apparently he's quite famous?

ailsa, Monday, 30 April 2007 16:17 (nineteen years ago)

Last weekend in London - Louis Theroux cycling up Oxford Street, Peter Bowles in Covent Garden, an obscure British actor called Milton Johns also in Covent Garden, Jack Davenport and Jenny Agutter in Soho (not together).

And about 3 minutes after arriving back in Cardiff, saw Stuart Cable!

nate woolls, Monday, 30 April 2007 17:47 (nineteen years ago)

Milton Johns is in the middle in this photo:
