Mostly Apolitical Thread for Discussing/Venting our Rational/Irrational COVID-19 Fears and Experiences in 2020

Problem is that people seem unable to use restraint. First sunny day here, people flocked to all our local parks and conservation areas and parks to the point that they were more crowded than the busiest day of a summer long weekend. Cars lined up along the roads, people walking in groups, picnicking. They had no choice but to close the parks the next day.

Now people are being creative and doing stuff like circling their vehicles in empty parking lots so they can socialize from sitting in the back with the hatch up, which is a great solution, but I’m just waiting until so many people decide they need to do it every single day, in every lot in town til it’s too much, and then it won’t be allowed. People gonna people I guess.

Parks, playgrounds, dog parks, running tracks, tennis courts all closed here.

We have walking/biking trails and community gardens that are not technically closed, but "closed to groups." We are encouraged to do our exercising and gardening alone.

None of this prevents one from taking a walk/run/bike along normal streets.

Just saw a commercial for restaurants--all restaurants--about how even though dining rooms are closed, kitchens are still open and you should try to order take-out.

I was thinking about how bizarre it would be to go back three months and try to make sense of that.

Played baseball with my kids in the local park yesterday and THREE different people stooped down to pick up the ball when it had rolled away from one of us, and threw it back. WHAT ARE YOU DOING.

our neighbours had another house party last night, with people streaming in and out of the building all night, even though federal and state governments said to stop doing that like a week ago. WHAT. ARE. YOU. DOING.

My sister-in-law got an invitation to a neighbourhood garden party, the guy had put them through dozens of doors in his street. Someone called the police, who popped round and had a word. Presumably "arsenole"

fixed it after an hour. my angry Sicilian blood started boiling and I got close to flinging it against a wall but fixed it just in time. yeah I wouldn't dilute water/bleach my vegetables either. but I am washing them super well if I plan to eat them raw. My mom has been yelling at me for years to do that anyway since she thinks all the vegetables in grocery stores are trash.

Well, I don't have a house, I have a 4th-floor apartment in Brooklyn. Every time I leave it, I spray a soapy solution on em, wipe, and leave em outside for maybe 40 minutes. Then I take em in and keep em near the door, because EVENTUALLY SOMEONE WILL TAKE MY ONLY PAIR OF WALKING SHOES.

no i meant taking your shoes off when you enter you abode. I don't leave my shoes outside my apt. although we did have an apt one floor down that always left their shoes outside the door and it was super annoying because it was right at the top of the stairs. Someone finally stole a pair of their shoes and they put signs up everywhere about it but dude... seriously.

the dude seriously is for the guy that had nice shoes in a size 12, that was just begging for someone to take them.

and I'm just saying that people that wear shoes in their homes have always been weird to me. outside has always been gross.

oh yeah, I have a pair of holey falling-apart slippers that I wear in the apartment. Shoulda bought that $20 pair I saw and put back in January, but didn't expect a quarantine.

A lot of math challenged friends are spreading the false rumor that the stimulus check this year will be offset next year, meaning your tax refund will be decreased 1200 next year.

Guess they don't understand the concept of double dipping or know how a one-time refundable tax credit works. Had to explain that them not giving you the 1200 next year doesn't mean your tax liability is now 1200 dollars higher than it would have been if there was no stimulus.

They're just taking away the bonus 1200 credit because it's money they gave you a year early.

I feel like how I do when explaining why after-tax 401k loan repayments aren't double taxation.

first day back in work after holiday today. p pointless as only around half a dozen flights and the first of them not due to depart until after my shift anyway. apparently we are open tomorrow then perhaps a day or two of mothballing the shops and then being 80 percented for at least a couple of months. more staff than customers in the shop today which was weird. think Boots is the last store standing in departures and the staff there none too happy about it.

thanks. wife has fever as well though not as high. kids fine obviously. strange that after having read approx 500000000 articles about this i now can’t remember the exact instrux for those with symptoms. stay home for 14 days iirc. but... how are we to get food? and.... I’ve read things saying that you’re contagious for three weeks after you stop displaying symptoms so shouldn’t i really be waiting till then?

prefer not to dwell on the potential seriousness of this obv. there is a very low chance it gets significantly worse.

is there a hotline you can call? since your health system is better than ours, there’s got to be someone who can clarify things for you fairly quickly
