Corbyn’s last pmqs :( I’m going to miss him.

Community transmission would presumably be prevented to some extent by a major lockdown and the hope that the existing carriers develop immunity in the meantime. But my general point is that even the most draconian of measures don't extend much further than "lock everything down and hope for the best". Especially when there's not enough testing and what exists isn't that reliable.
― Matt DC, Wednesday, 25 March 2020 12:06 (four years ago) link
Sure, but it’s other countries going to be locking their doors to the UK, rather than vice versa. Border closures don’t matter much when people aren’t doing lockdown properly.

Corbyn talking about care workers not being able to get food for their clients. Now calling out NHS staff having to ask DIY shops for PPE on twitter.

I'm not sure ANY country has a viable exit strategy yet, as we will probably find if and when this lets rip in China again
Yeah. I can still see why they wanted to take the herd immunity route first; it still seems like the only thing that is halfway sustainable to the end. (But also they went about it so ineptly and communicated it so awfully that I'm not sure it can saved.)

FPing Corbyn for pronouncing it “med-cins”. Johnson does too.

ironically this is probably easier with the Tories in. Doesn't bear imagining how the blue ticks would be reacting right now to a left-wing govt providing left-wing solutions to this

the groundskeepers have come to mow the communal lawns for the block of flats, which is very nice and lovely and completely unnecessary, I'd have thought
at least they're able to keep well apart from a) each other (well, until they both get back into their van) b) anyone else

tbh I rarely say it out loud and am not entirely sure whether it has a short middle syllable or none at all when I do, but I can hear my mother saying mɛdsəns
trying to remember what my more w/c nan would have said, and I can imagine either the same or a very methodically pronounced 3 syllables, but nothing in between

Scotland’s chief medical officer, Catherine Calderwood, has said she is satisfied that Prince Charles was tested for the coronavirus for “clinical reasons”, after questions were raised on social media whether he had jumped the queue. It emerged on Wednesday that Charles, known as the Duke of Rothesay in Scotland, was in self-isolation with his wife, Camilla, at their Scottish home, Birkhall, on the Balmoral estate in Deeside with mild coronavirus symptoms. He was tested by NHS Grampian staff, and Calderwood said she had contacted the team involved. “From the information I have been given it was clear he was tested for clinical reasons,” she said.
