Can't see things restarting for a long time. Possibly restart the season in a year's time, trying to pick up where we left off (though many clubs could have gone under by then).

the salacious inaudible (Nasty, Brutish & Short), Friday, 13 March 2020 13:45 (six years ago)

gotta say i was really looking forward to the spurs v manu game this weekend, think mou's boys might've taken a bit of a mauling

ymo sumac (NickB), Friday, 13 March 2020 13:51 (six years ago)

Ive a ticket for the Liverpool v Villa game in April :(

I'd say flights are going to be cancelled soon too

Saxophone Of Futility (Michael B), Friday, 13 March 2020 13:52 (six years ago)

If we can't restart in August or September as normal then things are really going to be very bad indeed.

Matt DC, Friday, 13 March 2020 14:17 (six years ago)

IMO let's just create one super season. add this year's points into last year, like 60 match season. see if Liverpool can still win the Premiership with their current cushion.

also relegate Arsenal

sorry for butt rockin (Neanderthal), Friday, 13 March 2020 14:19 (six years ago)

If the government's right and other European nations are going to be in the middle of a second, worse spike around the summer, i can't see any major sporting competitions taking place, even if the UK isn't as badly hit.

ShariVari, Friday, 13 March 2020 14:21 (six years ago)

Rugby now off but Cardiff already full of Scots

groovypanda, Friday, 13 March 2020 14:43 (six years ago)

Posh Scots though, so there'll no' be any bother.

God gave toilets rolls to you, gave toilet rolls to you (Tom D.), Friday, 13 March 2020 14:44 (six years ago)

This is how the Black Death ended up in Scotland though, it was plague-free until some Scots decided to have a bit of a marauder over the border.

Only sensible thing is to refuse re-entry to all rugger fans. Need to take no chances.

check people coming off flights and trains for first names like Farquhar and Findlay

COVID and the Gang (jim in vancouver), Friday, 13 March 2020 16:49 (six years ago)

West Ham and Tottenham want the Premier League season completely cancelled and rendered null and void. Is the right thing for the wrong reason still the right thing? #Covid19

Number None, Friday, 13 March 2020 16:56 (six years ago)

it's nonsensical this far into the season and with Liverpool so far at the top to just render the season null and void. if they need to why don't they just postpone the games until later in the year and then have a shorter championship next year.

COVID and the Gang (jim in vancouver), Friday, 13 March 2020 16:59 (six years ago)

so if they postpone the games until later in the year, when does next season start?

Number None, Friday, 13 March 2020 17:00 (six years ago)

Blimey, that guy has some strong feelings about Cheltenham xps

groovypanda, Friday, 13 March 2020 17:10 (six years ago)

he's right though

it's grotesque that it went ahead

Number None, Friday, 13 March 2020 17:15 (six years ago)

London marathon just got postponed

ymo sumac (NickB), Friday, 13 March 2020 17:20 (six years ago)

so if they postpone the games until later in the year, when does next season start?

― Number None, Friday, March 13, 2020 10:00 AM (twenty-three minutes ago) bookmarkflaglink

honestly they could just do a short season, start it near the end of the year

COVID and the Gang (jim in vancouver), Friday, 13 March 2020 17:24 (six years ago)

As much as I dislike Liverpool, Klopp seems like such a class act

Jürgen Klopp has today issued the following message to supporters.https://t.co/nBeTrwILJs

— Liverpool FC (@LFC) March 13, 2020

groovypanda, Friday, 13 March 2020 17:25 (six years ago)

what do you mean by a "short season"?

Number None, Friday, 13 March 2020 17:27 (six years ago)

Guessing every team play each-other once instead of twice?

Wuhan!! Got You All in Check (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Friday, 13 March 2020 17:29 (six years ago)

at neutral venues?

that's a whole other can of worms

Number None, Friday, 13 March 2020 17:31 (six years ago)

Split the prem into two different leagues?

ymo sumac (NickB), Friday, 13 March 2020 17:31 (six years ago)

would be a possibility to do each team playing each other once. you would have each team play the same amount of home and away games and determine it randomly. you could also do every team plays each other once then do something similar to the split in Scottish football https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scottish_Premier_League#Split

COVID and the Gang (jim in vancouver), Friday, 13 March 2020 17:33 (six years ago)

Football is over forever. So is basketball. So is hockey. So is baseball. So is jailai.

Thanos did it man. He snapped. Game over, man.

sorry for butt rockin (Neanderthal), Friday, 13 March 2020 17:52 (six years ago)

there is absolutely no way to play a shorter season that wont raise more issues than it solves

there was no league winner, thats it. thats the post.

BSC Joan Baez (darraghmac), Friday, 13 March 2020 17:55 (six years ago)

nonsense

COVID and the Gang (jim in vancouver), Friday, 13 March 2020 17:56 (six years ago)

if a race is called off halfway through, is there a winner?

no.

the race didnt finish.

basic imo.

BSC Joan Baez (darraghmac), Friday, 13 March 2020 18:00 (six years ago)

it's the 1993 Grand National all over again, i'm sure Liverpudlians will be familiar with the situation

BSC Joan Baez (darraghmac), Friday, 13 March 2020 18:04 (six years ago)

One interesting problem is how the hell you keep your squad match fit without any games at all

ymo sumac (NickB), Friday, 13 March 2020 18:23 (six years ago)

So glad I didn't get the 30-day pass when I got nowTV for the match last weekend. I was *that* close

ymo sumac (NickB), Friday, 13 March 2020 18:40 (six years ago)

NOW will you filthy non-hand-washers take this seriously? https://t.co/Fbkjm9EJbA

there's every chance the coming season won't be able to start on time. just cancel that too?

COVID and the Gang (jim in vancouver), Friday, 13 March 2020 19:44 (six years ago)

keep em peeled!

impossible to say in fairness.

Yes, saying Atletico Madrid don't play proper football, that was classy.

God gave toilets rolls to you, gave toilet rolls to you (Tom D.), Friday, 13 March 2020 23:19 (six years ago)

“Our primary concern, as always, is to protect the financial stability of our 62 clubs. This means playing as many games as we can, so long as clubs wish to do so. This is not contrary to the League’s and clubs’ duty of care considerations to players, officials or supporters but, in a season where clubs have been severely impacted by weather-related postponements, the NPL board believes that pausing the season right now would prove disastrous for many clubs.

lol the fucking lower leagues still smarting from that game against Brodsworth Colliery that was called off because of a waterlogged pitch last month rather than looking at the fucking big picture here!

calzino, Friday, 13 March 2020 23:46 (six years ago)

Yep. Top of the table clash for FC Utd at South Shields tomorrow is apparently still going ahead, but what the fuck for I have no idea. There seems zero chance of them finishing the season. The question is more how many clubs will go under over the next 6, 9, 12 or however many months it takes.

the salacious inaudible (Nasty, Brutish & Short), Friday, 13 March 2020 23:49 (six years ago)

The only way to keep the clubs solvent is to suspend all rents & mortgages for the duration of the epidemic. In fact, abolish money for a while. I'm sure everyone'll be happy to go back to the old ways once we're covid-clear.

akb23 (Matt #2), Friday, 13 March 2020 23:56 (six years ago)

Wait if the season is nullified does that mean the whole Mourinho thing was just a bad dream?

Matt DC, Friday, 13 March 2020 23:56 (six years ago)

No, he'll still be there waiting for you if/when we get through this

sorry for butt rockin (Neanderthal), Saturday, 14 March 2020 00:03 (six years ago)

i'm guessing bookie wagers on Premiership winner are gonna be in limbo for a while.

sorry for butt rockin (Neanderthal), Saturday, 14 March 2020 00:04 (six years ago)

So many of them must've paid out already

Psychedics with Rosie Swash (Noodle Vague), Saturday, 14 March 2020 00:08 (six years ago)

based on current standings?

sorry for butt rockin (Neanderthal), Saturday, 14 March 2020 00:09 (six years ago)

Yeah some bookies will pay out early when the thing's a foregone conclusion, more for a bit of publicity than anything

Psychedics with Rosie Swash (Noodle Vague), Saturday, 14 March 2020 00:13 (six years ago)

oh yeah I do remember some bookies did that for the Hillary Clinton wagers and wound up having to pay the Trump wagers too on Election Day.
