and now my Sanders pals are saying, "Well, Alfred, that's politics"!

The thing you've outlined all the ways you wanted him to do?

He's currently doing better than in 2016, despite the larger field... some might suggest it's like there's nothing the Sanders campaign could have done to actually make you pleased with them.

If you wanted to argue that black voters only turnout in 2016 numbers, which hurt Clinton - how are the Latinx and Asian voters that Bernie is winning going to turn out for non-Bernie in November? It's been a recurring evasion by some to pretend that voters of color only means black voters. That's not true in 2020 (nor has it ever been true) - and those are two groups of people of color with more room for growth in Democratic voter share.

My in-laws and my own family, who are Latinx and Asian, are pretty softly anti-Bernie. And, more importantly, they are very pro-Joe. The Obama years were prosperous for them in terms of personal wealth and educational attainment (as is the case for many POC). For this reason they’re inclined to more of the same - even if the candidate they associate with this era is imperfect and a little doddering. In their eyes, Joe has demonstrated an ability to listen to, and respond to, (non-white, non-male) deprioritized voices in government... His alliance with Obama, his advocacy for Hillary, his folksy charm, his Amtrak ridership, his dead kid, all of these indicate a humility and openness to change that is appealing to them. They experience Bernie as ideologically “set” and uncompromising, with a tendency to mansplain and whitesplain and an agenda that doesn’t adapt well to challenge. That some his supporters can at times demonstrate the same rigidity is evidence for them that he is not a candidate who will see/hear them.

rb (soda), Friday, 6 March 2020 19:58 (six years ago)

I am not persuaded by Harriot's assertion that ppl's support of Joe is unconnected to the O years. absence of evidence etc

bold caucasian eroticism (Simon H.), Friday, 6 March 2020 19:59 (six years ago)

if Biden were to propose $500 billion for Amtrak and otherwise not change his platform I'd be forced to reconsider my opposition tbh xp

college bong rip guy (silby), Friday, 6 March 2020 20:00 (six years ago)

Oh, that would be such a cool wedge issue.

rb (soda), Friday, 6 March 2020 20:00 (six years ago)

Asked straight out, can Joe Biden beat Donald Trump, Sanders said, simply: “Yes, he can.”

Yeah, I think he's done.

bold caucasian eroticism (Simon H.), Friday, 6 March 2020 20:03 (six years ago)

No such thing as halfway crooks anti-establishment firebrands.

bold caucasian eroticism (Simon H.), Friday, 6 March 2020 20:04 (six years ago)

I wonder who all these asian americans are that aren't highly suspicious of surveys/polling.

silby, I think you may have stumbled on something.

Yerac, Friday, 6 March 2020 20:04 (six years ago)

- years of Senate experience cultivating relationships with both Democrats and Republicans

ok lol

You can lol if you want to but this matters to a non-negligible number of people. These are the people Sanders needs to sell himself to. I think, instead, he is making the same mistake Warren made and is selling his policy ideas.

totally unnecessary bewbz of exploitation (DJP), Friday, 6 March 2020 20:06 (six years ago)

like the country badly needs M4A and Biden is a motherfucker for snickering at the idea but it needs a colossal investment in passenger rail infrastructure at all scales too, if Biden wants trans millennials to support him he really needs to start talking about trains because they all love trains almost as much as health insurance

college bong rip guy (silby), Friday, 6 March 2020 20:07 (six years ago)

it's true the youth fuckin love trains

bold caucasian eroticism (Simon H.), Friday, 6 March 2020 20:07 (six years ago)

He would get the vote of my six-year-olds in a hearbeat

Guayaquil (eephus!), Friday, 6 March 2020 20:09 (six years ago)

Bernie can't say anything other than "yeah, he can."

Greta Van Show Feets BB (milo z), Friday, 6 March 2020 20:09 (six years ago)

You can lol if you want to but this matters to a non-negligible number of people.

It is unfortunately correct that a large number of people care about being Dems being professional and friendly with the power paedos.

bold caucasian eroticism (Simon H.), Friday, 6 March 2020 20:09 (six years ago)

Unless he decides to resign from the Senate immediately if he doesn't lock up the nomination.

Greta Van Show Feets BB (milo z), Friday, 6 March 2020 20:10 (six years ago)

Bernie can't say anything other than "yeah, he can."

Something snapped in me and now I've become convinced that his only path forward is to make the case that Biden is in face not safe or electable, and since he's not willing to do that (I wasn't joking before when I said he was too nice!) he's probably fucked.

bold caucasian eroticism (Simon H.), Friday, 6 March 2020 20:11 (six years ago)

Unless he decides to resign from the Senate immediately if he doesn't lock up the nomination.

... Why would he do that?

totally unnecessary bewbz of exploitation (DJP), Friday, 6 March 2020 20:12 (six years ago)

*fact, Biden's face is...fine I guess xp

bold caucasian eroticism (Simon H.), Friday, 6 March 2020 20:12 (six years ago)

Why people vote this and that way elides that people can be wrong about why they vote and it's not racist/sexist/etc. to say they're wrong and making a bad choice. We all agree that many of the people who voted for Trump - like the vaunted Obama-to-Trump pipeline - were wrong for this reason or that. The people who get interviewed and were just sure that Trump was actually the candidate who'd bring about nationalized healthcare.

Greta Van Show Feets BB (milo z), Friday, 6 March 2020 20:12 (six years ago)

lol, Biden's unsafe face

what a baroque way to call someone ugly

totally unnecessary bewbz of exploitation (DJP), Friday, 6 March 2020 20:13 (six years ago)

... Why would he do that?

I'm saying if he went scorched earth and actually poisoned the well with soundbites about Biden's complete unelectability. He'd have to hide in the Vermont cabin/mansion just to evade the ensuing shitstorm.

Greta Van Show Feets BB (milo z), Friday, 6 March 2020 20:13 (six years ago)

he's gotta resign someday. might as well torch the bridges.

bold caucasian eroticism (Simon H.), Friday, 6 March 2020 20:14 (six years ago)

He also can't do it because a Biden loss is going to be blamed on him regardless but at a certain point of criticism it would be used against anyone who endorsed him/has ever met with him/said something nice about him that one time.

Greta Van Show Feets BB (milo z), Friday, 6 March 2020 20:15 (six years ago)

christ this sanctimonious horseshit. People may be stupid - and you and I are free to think so - but their votes are *their* votes, they aren't "wrong".

Οὖτις, Friday, 6 March 2020 20:19 (six years ago)

people can and do certainly base their votes on shit that's plainly, demonstrably not true. I think it's fair to call those votes "wrong".

bold caucasian eroticism (Simon H.), Friday, 6 March 2020 20:20 (six years ago)

Yes, they're wrong. That it's "their" vote is irrelevant, people own choices that are incorrect all the time.

It's a wrong choice to bareback your high school girlfriend or get drunk and drive 100 miles an hour or vote for someone who is going to make the world a worse place.

Greta Van Show Feets BB (milo z), Friday, 6 March 2020 20:21 (six years ago)

man I genuinely don't think "people are stupid" is a meaningful analysis of anything. Maybe that's off topic

college bong rip guy (silby), Friday, 6 March 2020 20:21 (six years ago)

Note that Shakes is the one who said "people are stupid" not me. People make wrong choices for all kinds of reasons, it has nothing to do with intelligence.

Greta Van Show Feets BB (milo z), Friday, 6 March 2020 20:22 (six years ago)

Shakey calling something sanctimonious is an honor, though, it's like having Sinatra compliment your performance of "My Way."

Greta Van Show Feets BB (milo z), Friday, 6 March 2020 20:23 (six years ago)

Nobody’s wrong with a single vote. Stupid and wrong are different qualities.
