More than a few posters ITT consider themselves socialists a good bit to the left of Sanders - for better or worse, liberals and socialists are not putative allies. It's nothing but temporary convenience because of how fucked up our country is.

― Greta Van Show Feets BB (milo z), Thursday, March 5, 2020 10:40 PM (eight minutes ago) bookmarkflaglink

Well see though, kind of part of what I was trying to say is that our country is so fucked up that many of us are incapable of even seeing liberals and socialists as putative allies, i.e. people who may wildly disagree on a number of issues but who can still compromise and find areas of agreement and who, if they aren't more consumed with the self-righteous thrill of screaming in each other's faces, could take the time to see one another as people and learn from one another and collectively help forestall the rise of actual fascists and nazis and hate mongers.

Waifu-ed Around and Fell in Love (Old Lunch), Friday, 6 March 2020 04:55 (six years ago)

Of course I'm all in favor of unity but I'm saying this stuff shouldn't be a surprise or even looked upon as harmful in a forum that doesn't matter like this. This isn't a socialist and a liberal screaming in public, undermining each other.

Greta Van Show Feets BB (milo z), Friday, 6 March 2020 04:59 (six years ago)

tbf the former killed Rosa

bold caucasian eroticism (Simon H.), Friday, 6 March 2020 05:00 (six years ago)

And hopefully one day we can return the favor

Greta Van Show Feets BB (milo z), Friday, 6 March 2020 05:01 (six years ago)

And just ftr, disagreement (vehement and otherwise) is healthy af and necessary. I just see the delivery of disagreement becoming more and more of a rhetorical punch in the teeth and I can't help but wonder what purpose that tack serves beyond self-satisfaction among whichever faction is delivering the blow at that particular moment.

Waifu-ed Around and Fell in Love (Old Lunch), Friday, 6 March 2020 05:02 (six years ago)

Berniebros return the favor every day, by a thousand cuts. xp

we'll compromise by setting "The Internationale" to the tune of "Fight Song."

I also apologize for misgendering latebloomer.

― sorry for butt rockin (Neanderthal), Friday, March 6, 2020 4:46 AM (three minutes ago) bookmarkflaglink

It’s ok. To be fair I haven’t been out as transgender on ILX all that long and I don’t post here as frequently as I used to so it’s easy to forget. Just have to remind people occasionally.

I do admittedly get a bit triggered sometimes when it feels as if someone might be lumping my angrier posts with “bro” alike, because it really does not come from that kind of place at all. My coming out as trans IRL cost me two longtime friendships (they were emphatically not cool with it) and that has kinda fucked up my ability to trust people. The heightened political climate only makes this worse and I tend to veer into paranoia and suspicion more than I ever did before. It’s something I need to work on.

Ok bloomer (latebloomer), Friday, 6 March 2020 05:18 (six years ago)

Damn, Latebloomer, you are perennial cool af. I'm sorry your ex-friends don't recognize that.

sorry for butt rockin (Neanderthal), Friday, 6 March 2020 05:27 (six years ago)

No worries latebloomer, emotions are running high with everyone I think. These are intense days

latebloomer I feel thankful for your post and can’t articulate why

never have i been a blue calm sea (collardio gelatinous), Friday, 6 March 2020 05:31 (six years ago)

Ty all

This stuff is so intimately tied in with my financial precarity and health problems and I feel that the immediacy of these material issues is all-too-often glossed over in political discussion and that contributes to the anger and resentment many people feel

Ok bloomer (latebloomer), Friday, 6 March 2020 05:41 (six years ago)

probably because LB is and always has been a Good Poster and an animal xp

I thought snake emojis on twitter was something to do with promoting a Taylor Swift album

Fantastic. Great move. Well done (sic), Friday, 6 March 2020 06:51 (six years ago)

whatever ceiling exists for sanders has very little to do with extremely online shit like "mean bernie bros" and more about the perception the media has pushed that he's too risky in the general election compared to biden which appears to be the main factor behind biden's surge.

ufo, Friday, 6 March 2020 07:47 (six years ago)

While Biden couldn't remember Obama's name today.

Greta Van Show Feets BB (milo z), Friday, 6 March 2020 07:56 (six years ago)

Reading through what happened in the thread overnight, and it's mostly the same discussion we've had a thousand times. But where did that whole 'snake emoji' thing come from, that was weird as fuck

My primary concern is that Bernie will stick to the issues and not go for the jugular re Biden's electability

bold caucasian eroticism (Simon H.), Friday, 6 March 2020 11:32 (six years ago)

He's hitting him on trade/the rust belt, seems like the biggest electability concern he can go after since cognitive decline is off the table.

A 24 point swing? Why are these polls so volatile?

treeship., Friday, 6 March 2020 12:34 (six years ago)

If the chapo people and the branding of bernie as the candidate for anti-pc edgelords had something to do with this, then fuck them

treeship., Friday, 6 March 2020 12:35 (six years ago)

Bernie’s a great candidate who left and right is being painted as some sort of firebrand. It’s completely against the spirit of his campaign which is oriented toward elevating the voices of struggling americans

treeship., Friday, 6 March 2020 12:36 (six years ago)

If the chapo people and the branding of bernie as the candidate for anti-pc edgelords had something to do with this, then fuck them

there is no evidence of this. by and large the stuff we argue about in here is Online Only Discourse, at least compared to the other 10,000 more important things that are on fire

bold caucasian eroticism (Simon H.), Friday, 6 March 2020 12:41 (six years ago)

― treeship., Friday, 6 March 2020 10:35 PM (two minutes ago) bookmarkflaglink

as i said that has really nothing to do with it, it's because biden winning south carolina + all the establishment endorsements made biden seem electable again after people were doubting his capability due to his previous poor performances (both in primaries and debates) and the media has been strongly pushing "biden is electable bernie isn't". that sudden shift right before super tuesday meant the sanders campaign didn't have time to react to biden suddenly being a major threat again, they got outmanoeuvred. they'd been softer than they really should have been on biden in the last few debates too due to bloomberg's presence taking up the spotlight etc.

ufo, Friday, 6 March 2020 12:43 (six years ago)

I thought snakes were a Taylor Swift thing, too. Maybe that was the previous primary/album cycle.

Bernie’s a great candidate who left and right is being painted as some sort of firebrand. It’s completely against the spirit of his campaign which is oriented toward elevating the voices of struggling americans

I don't necessarily think it's strictly an anti Sanders media push, it's that in many ways his message (maybe thanks to many of his messengers) left the impression his brand *was* firebrand. That's where a lighter touch could have and maybe would help. Anyway, I saw this twitter thread that I thought was pretty interesting (maybe she's media biased, I can't tell anymore):

Some thoughts on what I’m seeing tonight...

There are offensive votes and defensive votes.

Many older black voters sacrificed by making defensive votes their entire lives in order to free up younger generations to be able to step out on faith and make more offensive votes.

— brittany packnett cunningham (@MsPackyetti) March 4, 2020

And re: stuff like "While Biden couldn't remember Obama's name today." Yeah, Biden is old. But he's the same fucking age as Sanders, and this kind of shit could happen to Sanders today, tomorrow, next week, in a year. That's why I want to see VP picks. I don't even know who Sanders would pick, but Biden seems to have a lot of good options.

Tipsy's post about Warren was great. We're so used to dysfunction, or the appearance of dysfunction, or the reporting of an appearance of dysfunction, that it's refreshing to hear stories of the system and/or people actually working, or doing work. My older daughter was recently in DC for an activist service trip, to learn how to lobby and/or work with congress, and the stories I got back stressed how responsive and respectful all the people she met with were. None of the primaries, no congressmen or senators, but their aides (to iirc Durbin and Danny Davis), who not only listened and offered advice, but to the one at the end encouraged a career in public service and at the least continued engagement with politics both local and national.

Josh in Chicago, Friday, 6 March 2020 12:44 (six years ago)

"Biden's brain is failing" is not going to be a winning attack line when that's true of many of his voters

bold caucasian eroticism (Simon H.), Friday, 6 March 2020 12:46 (six years ago)

And often all of us.

Josh in Chicago, Friday, 6 March 2020 12:48 (six years ago)

Sanders badly needs a win, endorsement, or some kind of announcement to signal that he's up for this fight and not just "the risky outsider", and if it's not going to be an assist from Warren I don't really know what it could be.

bold caucasian eroticism (Simon H.), Friday, 6 March 2020 12:53 (six years ago)

sadly otm

Webcam Du Bois (Hadrian VIII), Friday, 6 March 2020 12:57 (six years ago)

The long list of recent high-profile endorsements for Biden requires a counternarrative imho

bold caucasian eroticism (Simon H.), Friday, 6 March 2020 12:58 (six years ago)

You mean one that's not "he's a moron neo-con experiencing cognitive decline, and so are his supporters?"

Josh in Chicago, Friday, 6 March 2020 12:59 (six years ago)

...yes?

bold caucasian eroticism (Simon H.), Friday, 6 March 2020 13:01 (six years ago)

I'm not the fuckin Sanders head of comms man, I'm just an asshole on a message board

bold caucasian eroticism (Simon H.), Friday, 6 March 2020 13:01 (six years ago)

I think that's actually a job requirement

Blues Guitar Solo Heatmap (Free Download) (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Friday, 6 March 2020 13:03 (six years ago)

The gap btwn what ppl perceive as The Discourse of The Sanders Campaign and the actual things that are spoken at rallies etc is hilarious to me. I tuned into one of them a week or two ago and one of his openers was literally defining intersectionality.

bold caucasian eroticism (Simon H.), Friday, 6 March 2020 13:09 (six years ago)

lol why open with a joke?

I honestly haven't paid much attention to the Sanders campaign, mostly because it feels like he's been campaigning for seven years. Sanders fatigue? But I do know a couple of people who, as of several weeks ago, said they had supported and voted for him the last time around but not this time, so I have no idea what changed.

Josh in Chicago, Friday, 6 March 2020 13:13 (six years ago)

I really don't think a Warren endorsement could do that much to change the equation, she was polling at 7% in the last Michigan poll. Instead of focusing on her everyone needs to figure out other and better plans.

Frederik B, Friday, 6 March 2020 13:13 (six years ago)

xpost (oh, btw, not saying defining intersectionality is a joke, I meant that opening with a joke is the public speaking standard, and he went with defining intersectionality!)
