Seriously fuck her if she’s going to let a bunch of twitter trolls take priority over the issues she’s been campaigning on for the past year+

I mean we do have a climate emergency but let’s put these bullies in their place first

Webcam Du Bois (Hadrian VIII), Friday, 6 March 2020 02:38 (six years ago)

Christ almighty you guys are just never gonna get it, are you?

There's a reason literally everyone else across the spectrum thinks Bernie ppl are assholes. #notallbros I know, but for real. You can't take every single complaint and plea for decency as just more evidence of your righteousness.

It may or may not keep you from getting the nomination, but it's intensely alienating and yes there are a whole lot more people in this country than just you.

Michigan is Tuesday.

There is not a lot of time to right this ship if indeed you care about M4A, gross income inequality, climate catastrophe etc.

Webcam Du Bois (Hadrian VIII), Friday, 6 March 2020 02:42 (six years ago)

But Berniebros are mean, so whatever

Webcam Du Bois (Hadrian VIII), Friday, 6 March 2020 02:43 (six years ago)

I'm watching the Maddow interview now, she sounds fine

Tipsy, I admired your post today on FB. You should post here.

It’s a snake emoji on Twitter, no one burned down a house.

Joe Biden did make it all but impossible to clear student loans via bankruptcy, though.

Greta Van Show Feets BB (milo z), Friday, 6 March 2020 02:46 (six years ago)

Oh, thanks Alfred. Here it is.

Throwback Thursday, Liz Warren edition: In 2017 I went with my then-boss Madeline Rogero and a group of other mayors for meetings on Capitol Hill. The most impressive person of any party we met with was Elizabeth Warren. She came into the room, gave everyone there (me included) a very firm handshake and direct eye contact, then sat down and launched into a rapid-fire strategy session on how mayors could effectively advocate for urban interests under a federal administration that was not on the whole inclined to prioritize them.

She was forceful and direct and specific, and she asked smart questions and listened to the answers and responded to them. She was in the room for only about 15 minutes, but by the time she left she had every mayor there fired up and ready to go. I've met lots and lots of politicians, including several senators and governors, and I've never been so immediately impressed by anyone on just a basic level of intelligence, energy and strategic thinking.

Obviously that didn't translate on the presidential campaign trail, and there are a zillion thinkpieces out there about why not. But it was fun to be in that room.

This line of argument is basically, "The world sucks and is full of bad people, so you shouldn't care that we're assholes." But the thing is, nobody ever likes assholes. You could be on the Titanic sinking, and you'd still notice who was being an asshole.

I'm just not sure how many votes you really wanna throw away in the next month or so.

a man often referred to in the news media as the Duke of Saxony (tipsy mothra), Friday, 6 March 2020 02:50 (six years ago)

If this is her primary focus in her first post-dropout interview I'm just gonna go ahead and assume there ain't no endorsement on the way.

um we *are* on the Titanic sinking and we need all hands on deck. Now.

seems a safe bet. i truly hope she gets something good out of a biden admin, but... that seems unlikely.

your definition of "literally everyone else" seems maybe a bit limited

like, I’m eating an elephant head (katherine), Friday, 6 March 2020 02:52 (six years ago)

I’ve never used an emoji in my life and never said an unkind word about Warren to anyone who could be influenced (ie not ILXors).

But it’s a snake emoji, if that’s someone’s threshold for voting for a guy who helped lead us into Iraq and brags about writing the PATRIOT Act, that’s between them and their god - and they were never serious about not voting for him.

Greta Van Show Feets BB (milo z), Friday, 6 March 2020 02:54 (six years ago)

xp who knows, maybe she’ll endorse tomorrow, but one would think you’d first want to calm the waters, prepare her supporters etc.

This was not that.

she seems to be doing so right now #snake

like, I also can't stand the subset of irony-poisoned, extremely online dudes (and this particular subset is largely dudes) whose moral first principles, from which all other principles follow, are getting to dunk on people they find cringe or whatever, but nobody I have talked to who is not also extremely online has even heard of them

like, I’m eating an elephant head (katherine), Friday, 6 March 2020 02:59 (six years ago)

When I spoke with @ewarren earlier today, she was defiant at the idea that she is obligated to support either Sanders or Biden.

"Why would I owe anybody an endorsement?" she said. "Is that a question they asked everybody else who dropped out of this race?"

um we *are* on the Titanic sinking and we need all hands on deck. Now.

That not only doesn't make it ok to be an asshole, it makes it actively counterproductive.

And it's not just extremely online dudes, or if it is, they're extremely prolific. I mean, I know lots of people who are not going to vote for Bernie partly because of how much they hate the cloud of jerks around him. Or if they are, it's with huge reservations, for the same reason.

But sure, it's all going to be everybody else's fault if he loses.

a man often referred to in the news media as the Duke of Saxony (tipsy mothra), Friday, 6 March 2020 03:08 (six years ago)

Yes, it will be the fault of people who vote for Joe Biden because of "jerks."

(ftr I think it's pretty dumb to change your vote based on something the candidate's supporters do or say, particular if the supporter came out against it multiple times, but still, coming at Warren for bringing it up is weaksauce)

I dunno, the blanket denialism about all of this from Bernie people (including some good friends of mine who I love) is weird to me. You can be down with the cause and still recognize when you have a messaging problem. Might even help.

a man often referred to in the news media as the Duke of Saxony (tipsy mothra), Friday, 6 March 2020 03:14 (six years ago)

I’d be thrilled if Warren endorsed Sanders, but I also get that deep cuts hurt deep, and are not mere epiphenomena. You can’t get to the point of fixing climate change with someone who you feel has fucked with your own internal climate, not without some venting or sense of being made whole. I mean that “you called me a liar on national television “ moment did happen, and quite possibly in her mind was an echo of attacks by Bernie surrogates and defenders.

Some highly results-driven people are able to suppress their emotions and move on quickly. She strikes me as the kind who doesn’t.

never have i been a blue calm sea (collardio gelatinous), Friday, 6 March 2020 03:14 (six years ago)

I don't blame Bernie at all because he's never encouraged it and he's always spoke out against it. I'm referring to coming at Warren for saying something about it cos 'now is not the time'

sorry for butt rockin (Neanderthal), Friday, 6 March 2020 03:15 (six years ago)

the bitchy righteous indignation of anti-berniebros itt have turned me into a Berniebro. I don't do Twitter so all I keep hearing is how toxic they are and how he needs to call them off or stop riling them up by calling for a political revolution and get down to the proper kissing of rings, but fucking Donald Trump is in the Whitehouse and y'all seem more concerned about putting down these unwashed heathens who don't understand politics and want to see real change.

as a Bernie voter I called another Bernie voter out on it on FB as he was getting aggro w/ a friend of mine. so I just saved a vote, u should be thanking me.

Bernie is also going to get trounced in FL but since it's not winner take all I'm still voting for him.

sorry for butt rockin (Neanderthal), Friday, 6 March 2020 03:17 (six years ago)

lol you must be new here if u think we're all "ehh, Trump, he's small potatoes, the bullying is the real problem".

y'all are some zero-sum trolls

yeah, this irritates me more than anything else. if you defend someone or something 100% of the time, no matter what, you are a loyal royal asshole and very annoying (unless it's jesus christ, who was perfect). that describes a lot of people but the bernie crowd takes it to the limit for sure

But guess what? Nobody gives a toot!😂 (Karl Malone), Friday, 6 March 2020 03:18 (six years ago)

I'd call it twitter

bold caucasian eroticism (Simon H.), Friday, 6 March 2020 03:21 (six years ago)

Nobody is okay itt with “toxic abusers.”

Some of us think they shouldn’t be inflated to such importance that it costs us another warmonger who wants to slow-walk climate issues in the White House

Who fucking cares if some people online are assholes? Get offline! Read the platforms, study the issues, watch the debates if necessary....

You know what happens to those people after the election? Nothing! They aren’t going anywhere, and neither are they going to the White House, and neither will they have fuck all to do with addressing the multiple, actual crises we’re facing

Webcam Du Bois (Hadrian VIII), Friday, 6 March 2020 03:23 (six years ago)

ok, so how about the Bernie supporters that tweeted en masse at Hillary Clinton calling her a "bitch", or the Bernie voters who left voicemails on Roberta Lange's phone in 2016 calling her a bitch and a cunt?

this isn't imagined abuse. it's possible to acknowledge it and also say Bernie isn't to blame for it and has actively spoken out against it, because unlike Trump, he has.

this isn't difficult. and bashing EW for bringing it up is nagl

sorry for butt rockin (Neanderthal), Friday, 6 March 2020 03:24 (six years ago)

fucking bitches, man, what can I tell you

IT'S A JOKE

akm, Friday, 6 March 2020 03:24 (six years ago)

"shrug off the abuse, guys, we got more important things than you being doxxed and being left harassing voicemails"

sorry for butt rockin (Neanderthal), Friday, 6 March 2020 03:25 (six years ago)

things that have also happened to Sanders surrogates iirc

bold caucasian eroticism (Simon H.), Friday, 6 March 2020 03:26 (six years ago)

this is another one of those cases where people's silos and channels absolutely determine their experience to the point that I'm not sure there's any way to gauge truthfully how 'real' a problem this is; it's clearly real for some people and they experience it and they complain about it; on the other than, I myself have only ever seen one instance of this in my circle peoples. I'm sure there are many circles like this and some of them experienced this worse than others.

akm, Friday, 6 March 2020 03:26 (six years ago)

like i'm pretty sure EW's comments aren't going to lead voters to flock to Biden en masse. if you noticed the polls, Sanders is the second choice for most EW voters, but probably not by a large enough margin to where it won't benefit Bernie and Biden almost equally.

however...now that it's mostly a two person race (and Gabbard, lol), maybe Bernie has some more tricks. still think the aggregators are overreacting a bit to this week.

sorry for butt rockin (Neanderthal), Friday, 6 March 2020 03:27 (six years ago)
