I just wanna see AOC keep killing it in congress forever, that and her as Mayor of NYC

Honestly NYC Mayor would be p dope, but in my perfect world I’d really love to see her ice Schumer. Then we all benefit.

Its big ball chunky time (Jimmy The Mod Awaits The Return Of His Beloved), Thursday, 5 March 2020 17:39 (six years ago)

i...don't you all do anything but read and post on this shit? if i check in here, i literally cannot catch up. i just found out about the post-maddow clyburn-gate (i thought it was a politically unwise stylation, but totally not offensive to me, a clueless old wite, sooo...? 'he should do better' seems like a reasonable takeaway).

so my fave candidate is out. bernie all the way. he better choose a good, healthy young running mate who understands politics, because healthy young and politics are not his strong suits. but that's jmo.

blather rinse repeat 2020 (Hunt3r), Thursday, 5 March 2020 17:42 (six years ago)

Biden generally sucks (though he sucks less than Bloomberg and far less than Trump, don't @ me) and so do Mayor Pete and Klobs. Their move was predictable. It doesn't mean Elizabeth Warren has to do the bidding of her opponent, as if the dude has a manifest destiny and must be deferred to. She stuck it out through Super Tuesday, it didn't work out, and she's moving on and seems likely to help Sanders now. Too bad she didn't come to the rescue sooner for Bernie, riding in heroically in the eleventh hour on Monday, but if he needed that much help to steal some states from Joe Biden maybe that's on him too. Bernie was my second choice though so good news for him (though I'm in California so maybe not idk).

omar little, Thursday, 5 March 2020 17:42 (six years ago)

at least some bernie people seem to be chilling out considering I have seen that "Be Insufferable or Win an Election. Pick One" piece circulating by bernie people.

Yerac, Thursday, 5 March 2020 17:44 (six years ago)

the alarming possibility that's been the elephant in the room for months is that bernie+warren support seemed to top off around 35-40%, with another 40% going to moderates, and the remaining 20% of voters' preferences demonstrating that they have no fucking clue what's goin on(bloomberg, gabbard, williamson before, maybe yang).

But guess what? Nobody gives a toot!😂 (Karl Malone), Thursday, 5 March 2020 17:48 (six years ago)

This is not a serious tweet.

Oh shit, a liar paradox.

jmm, Thursday, 5 March 2020 17:48 (six years ago)

i guess bernie can try to win over the completely clueless crowd, but i have a feeling most of them will wind up wandering off into the woods

But guess what? Nobody gives a toot!😂 (Karl Malone), Thursday, 5 March 2020 17:49 (six years ago)

xxxp - No one suggested frog marching her to the podium and forcing her to drop out? Her staying in was harmful - one way or another - if your goal was to not nominate Joe Biden. I think you're weirdly passive or willfully misunderstanding this concept.

There's not some Platonic ideal of proper campaigning and right action - people wanted her to drop out to help their candidate. Just like, over the next X months that mentioning Biden's record is 'purity politics' and leftists are bad people if they don't vote for the soupbrain - because the people saying that want their candidate elected, damn any other considerations.

That's... how it works.

― Greta Van Show Feets BB (milo z), Thursday, March 5, 2020 12:32 PM bookmarkflaglink

No. Omar was talking about the act of dropping out to assist another candidate as a virtue in itself, regardless of feelings for the candidate it benefitted.

But thanks for playing

sorry for butt rockin (Neanderthal), Thursday, 5 March 2020 17:51 (six years ago)

preference for Bernie aside, sure hope Biden's concentrated run of gaffes as he has to actually start campaigning, with an unforgiving schedue, starts happening now and not in July

Webcam Du Bois (Hadrian VIII), Thursday, 5 March 2020 17:52 (six years ago)

in that realpolitik vein, two days ago it was "leftist brainworms" to suggest Warren wouldn't endorse Bernie if she dropped out. I'll hazard a prediction that the people arguing that then will switch their stance if she doesn't and explain how actually it's good and right that she sat it out/endorsed Biden in the end because blah blah blah.

Why? Because there's nothing objective about this shit.

Greta Van Show Feets BB (milo z), Thursday, 5 March 2020 17:53 (six years ago)

xpost seriously, i am stockpiling eyedrops in preparation for the amount of eyerolling I am preparing to do for the next 4 years if Bernie doesn't get the nomination and I have to hear people bitching about Warren + Hillary.

Yerac, Thursday, 5 March 2020 17:53 (six years ago)

milo I can barely figure out which posters you’re picking fights with at this point.

Omar was talking about the act of dropping out to assist another candidate as a virtue in itself, regardless of feelings for the candidate it benefitted.

There are no 'virtues in themselves,' Petey and Klob dropping out didn't happen in a vacuum.

Greta Van Show Feets BB (milo z), Thursday, 5 March 2020 17:54 (six years ago)

Lol if your goal itt is just to say Biden sucks and Bernie is better 3000 different ways, we can point you to a sandbox

sorry for butt rockin (Neanderthal), Thursday, 5 March 2020 17:56 (six years ago)

guys come on, surely there's eomthing more cycnical in the Pete/Klob endorsements than the hypothetcial Warren-Bernie one we're talking about. Biden won out over the other centrists by attrition ffs, it's not like either of them have any idea what he actually "stands for"

Webcam Du Bois (Hadrian VIII), Thursday, 5 March 2020 17:57 (six years ago)

bold caucasian eroticism (Simon H.), Thursday, 5 March 2020 17:58 (six years ago)

Webcam Du Bois (Hadrian VIII), Thursday, 5 March 2020 17:59 (six years ago)

I think you're weirdly passive or willfully misunderstanding this concept.

no i get it of course, and why make it slightly personal??

i myself just don't care about the idea that her sticking it out through super tuesday was harmful, because i don't think it was. I think the landscape would be very much the same as it is today because of Joe Biden's dumb momentum narrative and just people maybe panicking and running for the center.

― Muswell Hillbilly Elegy (President Keyes), Thursday, March 5, 2020 11:35 AM (fifteen minutes ago) bookmarkflaglink

Yeah, that tweet was pretty misleading. IIRC, the full results of the poll were 40% Sanders, 16% Biden, 16% Buttigeg, 12% Klobuchar.

Hadrian, the move wasn't cynical. Biden drifted ahead because the Democratic party has been drifting center for decades and Bernie is talking Democratic socialism which many moderate Dems aren't down with. Also some are convinced (wrongly, I'd argue) that Sanders can't win.

Dems also fear anti-Trumpers might not vote for him. Again...i don't agree, but...w/e.

So they dropped out to help the moderate. Yes, that sucks, and yes, it infuriates me that we seem to never acquire a nominee anywhere near progressivism, but...this is hardly new or controversial. We eat up Bernie easily because we're progressives, lots of voters aren't or grew up being told Socialism is a bad word and you get this wishy washy bullshit candidate, rinse repeat

And progressives seem incapable of accepting increments, they want immediate results or they pout

sorry for butt rockin (Neanderthal), Thursday, 5 March 2020 18:04 (six years ago)

yes, "pouting," that is a good way to describe years-long campaigns to defend rights and expand safeguards against an onslaught of right-wing efforts to do the opposite (through a thousand "incremental" rollbacks)

Doctor Casino, Thursday, 5 March 2020 18:10 (six years ago)

If you wanna attach a word bubble above my head, i have a pencil

sorry for butt rockin (Neanderthal), Thursday, 5 March 2020 18:11 (six years ago)

The product of being told to accept "increments" has been the world we live in now - closing in on five decades of ever-spiraling inequality, looming climate catastrophe, unbearable student debt, awful healthcare, yada yada yada.

Greta Van Show Feets BB (milo z), Thursday, 5 March 2020 18:12 (six years ago)

it's almost as if incrementalism has a terrible track record for securing said rights

bold caucasian eroticism (Simon H.), Thursday, 5 March 2020 18:12 (six years ago)

xp I get that Neandrathal, by "cynical" I mean that I don't believe those endorsements were made to "help the moderate" so much as "stop the progressive" which yeah may seem like too fine a distinction until you consider that they by and large when polled their consituents want something closer to a Sanders platform

Webcam Du Bois (Hadrian VIII), Thursday, 5 March 2020 18:14 (six years ago)

e.g. I don't believe that ambition or careeer preservation will play the same role in EW's endorsement calculations as it did in Booty's

Webcam Du Bois (Hadrian VIII), Thursday, 5 March 2020 18:16 (six years ago)

It’s almost as if history books are written as a series of key defining moments instead of increments, because that’s also how human memories work.

El Tomboto, Thursday, 5 March 2020 18:17 (six years ago)

If being angry at the state of things fires you up to work harder for y that isn't pouting, that's drive.

If not winning a single battle eads you to spend all your time whining on Reddit about it adopt a fuck it all attitude and say "nothing matters, it's all a lost cause", that's pouting.

I'm not talky about posters itt but i know many progressives who are addicted to this performative nihilism

sorry for butt rockin (Neanderthal), Thursday, 5 March 2020 18:17 (six years ago)

Obama/Reid/etc. made the correct call to lean on Klobuchar and Buttigieg, both given a chance for a breakout that never came - it's not about cynicism or right and wrong, they did what they needed to do to shore up their political position.

All anyone in the Bernie camp was arguing was for the left/progressives to do the same, on the assumption that Warren and Sanders occupied the same ideological space as Klobuchar/Biden/Butts.

Greta Van Show Feets BB (milo z), Thursday, 5 March 2020 18:18 (six years ago)

It's cute that y'all think I'm not also affected by these things too.

bold caucasian eroticism (Simon H.), Thursday, 5 March 2020 18:21 (six years ago)

... but not from Sanders

Greta Van Show Feets BB (milo z), Thursday, 5 March 2020 18:27 (six years ago)

Terrifying if true!

Andrew Farrell, Thursday, 5 March 2020 18:28 (six years ago)

I have been paying my student loans for 16 years and still have 15k left.

My dad can barely talk due to a stroke, can barely walk due to needing a knee surgery he can't afford even with Medicare, can't afford the speech or physical therapy he needs (nor can we). My job of 15 years looks more and more less secure each day.

Half my friends have to start GoFundMes for basic needs or have chronic painful illnesses they ignore due to expense.

All this stresses me to the point where yesterday i had the shakes from my anxiety but i have to live my life and the constant "lol it doesn't matter, we tried, we failed" shit from pockets of the community don't help.

the most good thing that has ever happened in the life of anyone now in college or younger is the Obama administration, which has plenty of people on the left explaining constantly how it was actually very bad
