Klobuchar and Pete dropping out was a move in service of an awful goal - people wanted Warren to drop out in service of a not-awful goal. These are not contradictory ideas.

so my fave candidate is out. bernie all the way. he better choose a good, healthy young running mate who understands politics, because healthy young and politics are not his strong suits. but that's jmo.

Biden generally sucks (though he sucks less than Bloomberg and far less than Trump, don't @ me) and so do Mayor Pete and Klobs. Their move was predictable. It doesn't mean Elizabeth Warren has to do the bidding of her opponent, as if the dude has a manifest destiny and must be deferred to. She stuck it out through Super Tuesday, it didn't work out, and she's moving on and seems likely to help Sanders now. Too bad she didn't come to the rescue sooner for Bernie, riding in heroically in the eleventh hour on Monday, but if he needed that much help to steal some states from Joe Biden maybe that's on him too. Bernie was my second choice though so good news for him (though I'm in California so maybe not idk).

the alarming possibility that's been the elephant in the room for months is that bernie+warren support seemed to top off around 35-40%, with another 40% going to moderates, and the remaining 20% of voters' preferences demonstrating that they have no fucking clue what's goin on(bloomberg, gabbard, williamson before, maybe yang).

There's not some Platonic ideal of proper campaigning and right action - people wanted her to drop out to help their candidate. Just like, over the next X months that mentioning Biden's record is 'purity politics' and leftists are bad people if they don't vote for the soupbrain - because the people saying that want their candidate elected, damn any other considerations.

i myself just don't care about the idea that her sticking it out through super tuesday was harmful, because i don't think it was. I think the landscape would be very much the same as it is today because of Joe Biden's dumb momentum narrative and just people maybe panicking and running for the center.

Yeah, that tweet was pretty misleading. IIRC, the full results of the poll were 40% Sanders, 16% Biden, 16% Buttigeg, 12% Klobuchar.

Hadrian, the move wasn't cynical. Biden drifted ahead because the Democratic party has been drifting center for decades and Bernie is talking Democratic socialism which many moderate Dems aren't down with. Also some are convinced (wrongly, I'd argue) that Sanders can't win.

Dems also fear anti-Trumpers might not vote for him. Again...i don't agree, but...w/e.

So they dropped out to help the moderate. Yes, that sucks, and yes, it infuriates me that we seem to never acquire a nominee anywhere near progressivism, but...this is hardly new or controversial. We eat up Bernie easily because we're progressives, lots of voters aren't or grew up being told Socialism is a bad word and you get this wishy washy bullshit candidate, rinse repeat
