In my experience in the Midwest, what happens is that people absorb anti-Semitic stereotypes as stereotypes about "people from New York" and literally don't know they are talking about Jews.

What a surprise:

Former Vice President Joe Biden has amassed a staggering 49-point lead over Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) in Florida ahead of the state’s March 17 Democratic presidential primary, according to a survey released on Thursday by St. Pete Polls.

The poll shows Biden leading the pack of candidates with about 61 percent support in the Sunshine State. His nearest rival in the poll, former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, registered at 13.5 percent. Bloomberg ended his campaign on Wednesday after a poor showing on Super Tuesday and has since endorsed Biden.

Sanders notched only 12 percent in the poll, just about on par with the 13 percent he scored in a similar St. Pete Polls survey released last week.

Better Biden than Bloomberg tbh

Οὖτις, Thursday, 5 March 2020 16:16 (six years ago)

Also:

The St. Pete Polls survey released last week showed him with more than 19 percent support among Hispanic voters in the Sunshine State. The poll released on Thursday, however, shows that support dropping to single digits at 8.5 percent.

That drop may reflect the backlash to comments Sanders made last month praising the late Cuban dictator Fidel Castro’s investments in health care and education during his reign. Those remarks are seen as particularly taboo in Florida, where hundreds of thousands of Cuban refugees fled to following the revolution that put Castro in power.

In another worrisome sign for Sanders, the poll shows him with only about 13.5 percent support among voters between the ages of 18 and 29 in Florida. In many other parts of the country, the Vermont senator leads among those voters.

xp:

Warren was the only one adopting the best plans from other candidates this election. Gov. Inslee's climate plan. Sen Gillibrad's paternal-leave plan, Kamala Harris's reproductive health care plan. Julián Castro's affordable health care plan.

I rode into her camp with Inslee's climate plan, which remains the best. But I don't expect her plans to influence the rest of the campaign.

xps:

Still think Warren would have made the best president of any candidate in the last two electoral cycles. But this cycle was one driven by fear rather than aspiration. The risk of a 7/2 conservative supreme court (and similarly obstructive lower federal judiciary) is too high a cost for not doing everything to win. We'll rely on familiarity (and for some groups, trust), and do our best to ignore the senility.

Save us, Covid19 (Sanpaku), Thursday, 5 March 2020 16:21 (six years ago)

wish her plan to get rid of the filibuster had some influence

But guess what? Nobody gives a toot!😂 (Karl Malone), Thursday, 5 March 2020 16:21 (six years ago)

me too

But guess what? Nobody gives a toot!😂 (Karl Malone), Thursday, 5 March 2020 16:22 (six years ago)

^^ that should be Julián Castro's affordable housing plan above.

Save us, Covid19 (Sanpaku), Thursday, 5 March 2020 16:22 (six years ago)

voters between the ages of 18 and 29 in Florida

Yeah but that's, what, 2% of the electorate there?

Guayaquil (eephus!), Thursday, 5 March 2020 16:22 (six years ago)

xpost yep. she may be the best candidate that we will see in our lifetime (maybe hyperbole but still feeling it) it's very disappointing.

Yerac, Thursday, 5 March 2020 16:23 (six years ago)

step outside The Villages and Palm Beach County.

is Warren officially out?

yes

she's talking to me and the rest of the staff right now

But guess what? Nobody gives a toot!😂 (Karl Malone), Thursday, 5 March 2020 16:32 (six years ago)

If Bernie can't beat Biden one-on-one then the revolution isn't quite ready yet.

I agree with this but also, the nice thing about having principles is that one figurehead's failure ain't the end of the world

bold caucasian eroticism (Simon H.), Thursday, 5 March 2020 16:32 (six years ago)

the nyt "warren is out" article reads like an obituary, and was probably ready weeks ago

But guess what? Nobody gives a toot!😂 (Karl Malone), Thursday, 5 March 2020 16:33 (six years ago)

xpost i still think bernie is going to win. but the end of the world was several years ago now, so that part doesn't matter so much to me

But guess what? Nobody gives a toot!😂 (Karl Malone), Thursday, 5 March 2020 16:35 (six years ago)

I'm vaguely annoyed about how much of the coverage was like "it seemed like she was gonna win and then it all slipped away" -- there was a period of maybe a single month where it seemed like she had a real chance, but I never thought she was the most likely nominee and neither did any of the other supporters I know, and for 90% of the length of this primary it's clearly been a remote chance.

Guayaquil (eephus!), Thursday, 5 March 2020 16:36 (six years ago)

i thought warren was going to win, for a long while. i place too much faith in the american people

But guess what? Nobody gives a toot!😂 (Karl Malone), Thursday, 5 March 2020 16:38 (six years ago)

AOC maybe, though by the time she's eligible the right-wing blob will have pumped nearly a decade of demonizing into their minions' brains.

Evans on Hammond (evol j), Thursday, 5 March 2020 16:39 (six years ago)

even now, i still believe that bernie is going to win. i'm waiting for my vote by mail ballot to arrive, and i can't wait to actually register my vote in a case where it actually matters

But guess what? Nobody gives a toot!😂 (Karl Malone), Thursday, 5 March 2020 16:39 (six years ago)

xp: My view, as in 2016: the revolution needs a better figurehead. AOC will be much more potent than Bernie.

Save us, Covid19 (Sanpaku), Thursday, 5 March 2020 16:39 (six years ago)

uncomfortable open secret: there are actually zero democratic politicians between the ages of 40 and 65

But guess what? Nobody gives a toot!😂 (Karl Malone), Thursday, 5 March 2020 16:40 (six years ago)

wish her plan to get rid of the filibuster had some influence

Schumer has floated it, whether the whole Dem Senate caucus goes along w it is a different question

Οὖτις, Thursday, 5 March 2020 16:42 (six years ago)

i suppose that generation got together in an enchanted mystery room several decades ago and put all of their combined powers into obama. everyone else walked out of the room with jack squat

xp

But guess what? Nobody gives a toot!😂 (Karl Malone), Thursday, 5 March 2020 16:42 (six years ago)

xp: Warren could have dominated the middle lane. I think her major mistake was a nuanced embrace of M4A rather than public option in November. She was never going to peel off voters from Sander's messianism. And it cost her half her support to Buttigieg and Klobuchar.

Save us, Covid19 (Sanpaku), Thursday, 5 March 2020 16:43 (six years ago)

zero democratic politicians between the ages of 40 and 65

Gen X couldn't be bothered

Οὖτις, Thursday, 5 March 2020 16:43 (six years ago)

Warren is dropping out today and will alert staff shortly, confirming @ShaneGoldmacher @AsteadWesley scoop. Someone w/ the campaign says she is contemplating not endorsing, endorsing Bernie, or even endorsing Biden.

Why not do them all?

Muswell Hillbilly Elegy (President Keyes), Thursday, 5 March 2020 16:43 (six years ago)

Personally can't wait for a chance to vote for AOC.

Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 5 March 2020 16:47 (six years ago)

Her supporters are a coalition of moderates drawn by personal qualities and specific policies (me), progressives who prefer her to Sanders, and feminists. She should call upon them and her delegates to vote their conscience.

Save us, Covid19 (Sanpaku), Thursday, 5 March 2020 16:47 (six years ago)

xpost I like AOC a lot but I worry about how well she could translate to the non-bubble demo. I'm a resident of Queens and I am often taken aback that a lot of people in Queens and the Bronx (poc) don't like her.

Yerac, Thursday, 5 March 2020 16:47 (six years ago)

So my head's still spinning from the past...christ, not even a week, but are we at this point down to Biden vs. Sanders...vs. Gabbard? Whu?

Waifu-ed Around and Fell in Love (Old Lunch), Thursday, 5 March 2020 16:47 (six years ago)

Warren could have dominated the middle lane. I think her major mistake was a nuanced embrace of M4A rather than public option in November.

I've noticed Liz Lads can't acknowledge a fuckup without ultimately blaming it on voters

bold caucasian eroticism (Simon H.), Thursday, 5 March 2020 16:48 (six years ago)

xxpost I think if these primaries and elections demonstrate anything it's that a lot of people don't like a lot of people.

Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 5 March 2020 16:48 (six years ago)

Warren could have dominated the middle lane.

Except these are the people who abandoned her en masse.

Greta Van Show Feets BB (milo z), Thursday, 5 March 2020 16:50 (six years ago)

Tulsi's continuing candidacy is a bit like someone forgetting to cancel a Netflix membership after they've lost internet access

Muswell Hillbilly Elegy (President Keyes), Thursday, 5 March 2020 16:50 (six years ago)

if/when democratic voters give biden the nomination over bernie, i fully plan on ultimately blaming it on them

But guess what? Nobody gives a toot!😂 (Karl Malone), Thursday, 5 March 2020 16:50 (six years ago)

Personally can't wait for a chance to vote for AOC.

I heart AOC but there is absolutely no evidence she could perform at a national level (or even wants to)

bold caucasian eroticism (Simon H.), Thursday, 5 March 2020 16:50 (six years ago)

i am even worried she won't keep her seat next election.

Yerac, Thursday, 5 March 2020 16:51 (six years ago)

I don't want her going anywhere.

TikTok to the (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Thursday, 5 March 2020 16:52 (six years ago)

i figure tulsi is still in it to rake in donations.

Yerac, Thursday, 5 March 2020 16:52 (six years ago)

or launder money. whatevs.

Yerac, Thursday, 5 March 2020 16:52 (six years ago)

these are the people who abandoned her en masse

The did so in late November and December, *after* Warren released her M4A platform. Since then, she was a 10-15% candidate in most polls.

Save us, Covid19 (Sanpaku), Thursday, 5 March 2020 16:53 (six years ago)

Assuming she keeps her seat I hope she keeps up with the PAC and expanding the # of leftist reps for a good long time

bold caucasian eroticism (Simon H.), Thursday, 5 March 2020 16:53 (six years ago)

I think one way or another AOC *is* performing at a national level.

Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 5 March 2020 16:53 (six years ago)

At this particular moment AOC is kinda my dream prez candidate which, iirc, means that she has no shot of ever becoming president.

Waifu-ed Around and Fell in Love (Old Lunch), Thursday, 5 March 2020 16:53 (six years ago)

my friend's pastor is trying to run against her next election. I am like good luck throwing that $ away and taking your time.

Yerac, Thursday, 5 March 2020 16:54 (six years ago)

they won't get pastor

bold caucasian eroticism (Simon H.), Thursday, 5 March 2020 16:55 (six years ago)

it's a large, conservative for NY/religious hispanic community in the bronx.
