Sort of doubt anyone on here is voting for Biden in the primary

I suspect no one here is even... Biden-curious

I was working as a waitress in an oxygen bar (Ye Mad Puffin), Thursday, 5 March 2020 12:47 (six years ago)

I agree with milo that it seems like a fourth disingenuous thing for people to act like it is Sanders who has a "fuck all y'all" attitude bc he said "I respect him but his politics aren't mine" about someone who just endorsed his opponent (and possibly tried to smear him as racist) when it is Biden who repeatedly does things like this:

https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.theguardian.com/us-news/2020/jan/29/joe-biden-go-vote-for-someone-else

Sund4r, Thursday, 5 March 2020 12:54 (six years ago)

Gah, who the fuck cares. Anyone that doesn't vote for Biden because of his record, or doesn't vote for Sanders because of his record, let alone their bad attitudes or sour grapes, is being ridiculous, because both of their records are miles better than the current default asshole, and no matter what, one of the three is probably going to be the next president no matter how much people grouse. But it seems fair to say that the wing most likely to sit this one out out of spite is young voters who supported Sanders, but if that wing were reliable voters there wouldn't be so much grousing going on right now in the first place.

(and possibly tried to smear him as racist)

Uh, yeah, let's just drop this idea right here and now, because otherwise we might just drop this whole project

Frederik B, Thursday, 5 March 2020 13:12 (six years ago)

I don’t know that Biden is experiencing cognitive decline—I forget and flub words all time—but my guess is the media will start taking that question seriously if he becomes the nominee and Trump does this. There will be Gupta specials and panels with neurologists daily. https://t.co/lk60rp4bPl

this of course ignores the fact that trump’s brain is melted Swiss cheese, but what hope do we have if our candidate doesn’t have the “my brain works properly” advantage

someone do a Bernie v Biden poll.

i’m thinking the Results May Surprise You

A-B-C. A-Always, B-Be, C-Chooglin (will), Thursday, 5 March 2020 13:27 (six years ago)

I read some people saying a lot of the weird coverage Sanders gets for being “shouty” or “pushy” leans on antisemitic tropes. Not an expert on this, is there any truth to this? I know how brain worms are in play re coverage with any leftist candidate, but honestly it all applies to Biden so much more!

blue checks on here gonna say that "mean tweets" did Sanders in. Biden called someone at his town hall fat and a damn liar and poked a steyer voter in the chest. he also told a member of Movimiento Cosecha to "go vote for Trump" for confronting him on immigration. in person.

Yeah, Biden has gotten real shouty in his dotage. I don't think the label applies to one dude more than the other. It's just what happens as dudes age. A steady increase of fist shaking and cloud shouting.

I'm not so much voting for Alfred ITT as I am voting against Simon H.

crusty but malignant (Eric H.), Thursday, 5 March 2020 13:49 (six years ago)

one of the three is probably going to be the next president

So is this "cranky old white guy election" worse news for

A. Clouds

B. Kids on their lawns

C. The nation, and by extension the future of humankind

D. Hen fap

We may need a poll

"Yeah usually it's more like 3:22." -John Cage's wife (Ye Mad Puffin), Thursday, 5 March 2020 13:52 (six years ago)

(Also, again, not something I know much about but calling them “two old white guys” just...ignores the fact that Bernie is Jewish and that does matter. It’ll certainly matter if he’s the nominee.)

He’s Jewish. Please don’t forget that, because all the wrong people sure won’t.

It just goes to show how much pointless bullshit is swirling around when of all the bullshit no one has really gotten around to Sanders' erstwhile religion, which is like the longest low-hanging fruit bullshit in the book.

Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 5 March 2020 14:11 (six years ago)

At least if he loses the primary, they'll never get to it...

Frederik B, Thursday, 5 March 2020 14:15 (six years ago)

read a theory that Warren and Sanders will spend next week's debate eviscerating Biden's past stances, she will drop out the next day, and then the following day endorse and be named as Sander's prospective VP. Nice theory, not sure it'll happen, but it could put wind in Sanders' sails.

My point was that I think a lot of criticism of him is rooted in antisemitism, had seen other people say as much, and Warren supporters aren’t shy about pointing out misogyny towards her. Just saying that I doubt the wilder and more emotive Bernie criticism steers entirely clear of antisemitism.

median punt (gyac), Thursday, 5 March 2020 14:20 (six years ago)

I'm hoping she eats Biden alive and drops out and endorses *during* the debate, then sidles up to Bernie at his own lectern, whereupon both don crowns of laurel and make a live blood oath

ooga booga-ing for the bourgeoisie (voodoo chili), Thursday, 5 March 2020 14:30 (six years ago)

Trump and Sanders share similar New York mannerisms, if Sanders got criticized for the way he comports himself and Trump didn't I'd say there was a hint of something hinky going.

Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 5 March 2020 14:30 (six years ago)

I think it's a big stretch to call "shouty" an anti-semitic slur. He actually is shouty, and so are lots of people who aren't Jewish. Is it anti-semitic to call Bloomberg irritable?

But for sure if he becomes the nominee, there will a sewer full of full-on anti-semitism headed his way.

I heard that Sanders is in the pocket of Big Jew.

Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 5 March 2020 15:05 (six years ago)

I have definitely been described by people as "east coast" in disposition or sensibility or whatever, and while I'm sure it was meant innocently I also suspected what they meant was "Jewish."

Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 5 March 2020 15:08 (six years ago)

I should have investigated this more, but during my dad's last visit (he's an old NYC wise-ass Jew) he seemed pretty turned off by Bernie. I assume that's for tax reasons though, not anti-semitism. He also lives in South Carolina, so I personally take the blame for Super Tuesday.

Bloomberg is Big Jew. He is too short to fit Sanders in his pockets.

Is it anti-semitic to call Bloomberg irritable?

No, and it's not anti-semitic to say that Bloomberg with his big bags of money was trying to buy the election behind the scenes, but it's also true that while that's not an anti-semitic thing to say, it is in fact a thing lots of anti-semites were saying while he was running.

ok from this point forward it's a two person race, between candidates close in delegates. If Bernie can't beat Biden one-on-one then the revolution isn't quite ready yet.

It basically bodied the respectable press away from saying that the frontrunner can't string sentences together, even though boiled down what it really said is that his control over a central cognitive task that defined his life is starting to slip away

BTW I don't think Warren's out because the media erased her or mean bros on Twitter insulted her or whatevs, I just think I live in a country where most people don't want the things I want in their leaders, and I'm committed to democracy and that means I just gotta be OK with that.
