How can anyone be comfortable with incendiary rhetoric like "our politics are not the same"?!

why the dem electorate feels queasy about giving Sanders the nom.

Don't tear a hammy with that stretch.

The anti-Bernie moderates aren't exactly a small wing

sorry for butt rockin (Neanderthal), Thursday, 5 March 2020 03:21 (six years ago)

Nor are the pro-Bernie progressives! It's almost like the popular vote looks like it will be pretty close after Super Tuesday counting, with Virginia and Alabama accounting for half of Biden's popular lead.

Greta Van Show Feets BB (milo z), Thursday, 5 March 2020 03:24 (six years ago)

yeah well I AGREE WITH THAT

So if it's close then it might be a bit early to think one sentence in a Rachel Maddow bit means anything.

Whereas you have and are going to get months of Biden telling people to suck it buttercup

“You should vote for Trump,” Joe Biden tells @CosechaMovement protester Carlos Rojas at tonight’s town hall in Greenwood, S.C.

Rojas and other protesters from the group were criticizing Obama-era deportations and asked Biden to say he’d end all deportations — which he rejected. pic.twitter.com/od188WIlrQ

Extrapolating "Fuck you I hate you and never needed or wanted your support, DICK!" from an interview quote as anodyne as "I respect and admire this man but our politics clearly aren't as closely aligned as I might've wished (as clearly evidenced by the fact he endorsed his direct opposition in the end!!)" is... distressingly disingenuous at best and delusionally narcissistic gaslighting at worst.

Anyone using THAT as justification or evidence for feeling "queasy" or hesitant about giving Sanders the nomination is ...clearly not someone who was ever going to be comfortable giving him the nomination regardless of anything he did or said and should be honest with themselves and anyone in close proximity of them and just admit that. Cause it's perfectly OK! Everyone's entitled to like and vote for whomever they like regardless of whatever their personal reasons for doing so! No need to resort to this level of all-time galactic reaching or willful misinterpretation/disingenuous tea leaf divining to mask it as something otherwise.

Sabre of Paradise (trevor phillips), Thursday, 5 March 2020 03:31 (six years ago)

a bargaining stage to make yourselves feel better about voting for Biden - in the primary or in November

Sort of doubt anyone on here is voting for Biden in the primary. But I don't need anything to make me feel better about voting for Biden in November, if his name is the one that's on the ballot. The idea that anyone who pretends to be any kind of leftist/progressive of any stripe would even consider NOT doing that under our current circumstances makes my brain hurt. I'd be happier if the name was Bernie's, but I will have zero hesitation about that vote, no matter who it is.

if my vote is between two politicians with varying degrees of soup brain, and these are my only choices, I might vote for the soup brain that isn't an authoritarian with white nationalists in his cabinet, who let thousands of Puerto Ricans die cos their politicians were mean to him.

if our soupbrain can at least nominate a SCOTUS judge that the Dem party doesn't find abhorrent and veto shitty conservative legislation should the Pubies unfortunately get both chambers back at some point, well....it's not a lot but it's something.

If you do, it's not going to be because some people at a Rachel Maddow watch party in Michigan saw Bernie say he likes and respects Clyburn.
And if you don't and President Bernie struggles to get Clyburn to vote for Medicare4All, it's not going to be because he said he likes and respects him.

If anything, all of this hubbub just underscores my belief that (in a perfect world) the GOP finally marginalizes itself all the way to the fringes of viability as the centrists move slightly further right to fill the void and the dems ultimately split into the new two parties of our two-party system. NB, this will probably take longer than any of us will be alive, but it will definitely happen at some point immediately after the last of us has shuffled off this mortal coil. I guarantee it.

Wild day, mostly viewed through Facebook, ilx, and group chats w friends who have been and remain Bernie skeptical. I wonder if the Bernouts would be caping for Biden and his surrogates if Warren was a strong front runner going into Super Tuesday and Joe caught up to her in the same fashion, all while Sanders came in third in his own state?

Maybe psychos on Twitter? Who knows, idgaf. But speaking personally? No. I’d be back to full-on Liz lad. Because policy matters. And the guy who will 1000% put SS on the chopping block if he thinks it will get him a photo op and prove he’s the guy who Made Republicans ‘Normal’ Again is a Bad Choice, regardless of who endorses him at this point.

Starting to think this wasn’t ever really about “No Old White Guys Pls”

protestors were criticizing Obama-era deportations and asked Biden to say he’d end all deportations — which he rejected

This is hardly a surprise to anyone reading this thread. Not sure what level of additional outrage is being requested here. The dilemma isn't whether to support Biden during the nomination process. It only arises if he gets the nomination. Thank god that won't arise for months, yet. His lead is hardly insurmountable.

That was in response to the idea that saying a Representative who endorsed Biden didn't share Bernie's politics was a sign he would be incapable of governing.

Greta Van Show Feets BB (milo z), Thursday, 5 March 2020 06:00 (six years ago)

In that brief window Post-Nevada should Bernie have struck while the iron was hot and posited himeself as the unity candidate? Got some establishment endorsements of his own (other than Bill de Blasio)?.

The camp seems to have underestimated Biden's South Carolina bump - which everyone knew was coming, but maybe the thinking was SC was too close to Super Tuesday to have a significant effect?

anvil, Thursday, 5 March 2020 06:54 (six years ago)

She voted for Reagan twice and HW Bush, it's not like she cast a ballot for Fightin Bob LaFollette. Republicans were already deeply into their horrible sociopath phase.

Just to flog this horse a bit more, I'd be shocked if Bernie had voted for Carter, Dukakis, and Mondale. And it'd be crazy to criticize him for his votes for President 30-40 years ago.
