Amazing how the 2016 election basically slid the cheese off your crackers but it's 2020 guys

hey so while we’re sorting all this out can someone explain what would have if instead of ~carefully coordinating their campaign suspensions like mean girls~ Mayor Pete and Abusive Boss Amy had dropped out a couple of weeks ago?

Larry Elleison (rogermexico.), Thursday, 5 March 2020 02:09 (six years ago)

counterfactuals are banned

I feel like so much of this thread is "oh no Biden won" -- Bloomberg is gone, Warren will probably be gone soon, 2/3 of the delegates are left -- millions and millions of people are going to get to choose between Sanders and Biden and we'll just see! If more people like Sanders he'll win! He was strong in the Midwest before, why not now?

Guayaquil (eephus!), Thursday, 5 March 2020 02:11 (six years ago)

Again, a week ago, one of the blowhards itt was wigging out about Bloomberg

In an interview with (god) Rachel Maddow, Sanders addressed the Clyburn matter. After two minutes of boilerplate (he, Obama, and Clyburn worked on an important proviso to the ACA, etc), in which he also said he respected and admired him, said, "His politics aren't mine."

On first glance harmless; after a few seconds I can see its obvious political obtuseness. Couldn't he have said, "I look forward to working with Clyburn in the future?" Something to signal to Clyburn voters he wants them? He's this deaf, isn't he?

nailed it

Larry Elleison (rogermexico.), Thursday, 5 March 2020 02:49 (six years ago)

South Carolina already voted, Alfred, and I'm pretty sure there's a no takesies backsies clause in endorsements (or else Julian Castro would have been on stage with Beto, Pete and Amy).

Greta Van Show Feets BB (milo z), Thursday, 5 March 2020 02:49 (six years ago)

Oh ffs xxp

bold caucasian eroticism (Simon H.), Thursday, 5 March 2020 02:49 (six years ago)

There are other constituencies besides South Carolina's. Besides, why the hell would you piss of Jim Clyburn? There's blue communities in even red states.

Love to piss ppl off by telling them I respect and admire them

bold caucasian eroticism (Simon H.), Thursday, 5 March 2020 02:51 (six years ago)

I mean, positioning against his own party is effective bc shit, you can position against the GOP these days just by not kicking puppies, and “uncompromising” is a huge part of the appeal.

So it’s a feature not a bug, but it’s why the ceiling.

Larry Elleison (rogermexico.), Thursday, 5 March 2020 02:52 (six years ago)

That's political doublespeak for "piss off" xpost c'mon Simon

an incoherent crustacean (MatthewK), Thursday, 5 March 2020 02:52 (six years ago)

Xxxpost it's almost if the "his politics aren't mine" made any admiration feel a bit cloying

sorry for butt rockin (Neanderthal), Thursday, 5 March 2020 02:54 (six years ago)

He's so mean!!

bold caucasian eroticism (Simon H.), Thursday, 5 March 2020 02:54 (six years ago)

I don't know what seems most disingenuous:
- acting like Sanders is even implicitly or inadvertently referring to individual African-American Southern voters when he talks about the Establishment
- a 30-year Congressman and Chairman of Outreach for the Senate Democrats making a point of railing against the Establishment in his second Presidential run
- concluding that a strong showing by the person who was the frontrunner for almost the whole cycle, mostly in states where he was expected to do well, proves anything about the efficacy of the anti-Establishment rhetoric and strategy of his rival

Sund4r, Thursday, 5 March 2020 02:54 (six years ago)

There are no other states where Clyburn matters even remotely as much as South Carolina.

It's also, most importantly, a factually accurate statement. Nor would it 'piss him off,' you're crafting an elaborate narrative for absolutely no reason.

President Sanders will need to work with Clyburn and his bloc -- that's my point, dudes.

TikTok to the (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Thursday, 5 March 2020 03:01 (six years ago)

looking as if you're enduring an intestinal cramp while growling the answer is stupid politics

TikTok to the (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Thursday, 5 March 2020 03:02 (six years ago)

I'm going to go ahead and say it's incredibly insulting to suggest that Clyburn would vote against Sanders agenda because 14 months earlier in a spot with Rachel Maddow Bernie didn't properly kiss his ass.

(Rather than because his donors oppose Sanders's signature legislation...)

Greta Van Show Feets BB (milo z), Thursday, 5 March 2020 03:04 (six years ago)

I think all Alfred is saying is that it's politically clumsy. If you think it's effective and a good way forward, fine. It's certainly in keeping with the fuck-all-y'all tone of the "movement," so I guess we'll just see if that's an effective path to winning the nomination.

It's not politically good, it's not politically clumsy, it's not actually anything. You're divining from tea leaves.

Kinda seems like it's more about entering a bargaining stage to make yourselves feel better about voting for Biden - in the primary or in November. It's not you, it's mean old Bernie's fault you had to pull the lever.

Greta Van Show Feets BB (milo z), Thursday, 5 March 2020 03:07 (six years ago)

It’s an exemplar of why the dem electorate feels queasy about giving Sanders the nom. That’s not tea leaf reading, it’s extrapolation

Grow up

El Tomboto, Thursday, 5 March 2020 03:11 (six years ago)

How can anyone be comfortable with incendiary rhetoric like "our politics are not the same"?!

The anti-Bernie moderates aren't exactly a small wing

sorry for butt rockin (Neanderthal), Thursday, 5 March 2020 03:21 (six years ago)

Nor are the pro-Bernie progressives! It's almost like the popular vote looks like it will be pretty close after Super Tuesday counting, with Virginia and Alabama accounting for half of Biden's popular lead.

Greta Van Show Feets BB (milo z), Thursday, 5 March 2020 03:24 (six years ago)
