"this isn't going as planned"

Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Wednesday, 4 March 2020 15:17 (six years ago)

I hope all these Biden voters turn out in the general election after the months and months of Biden #metoo, dementia, and Burisma corruption stories we have to look forward to. It's on them now.

The foreseeasbility of it makes the Biden votes more puzzling,

Bloomberg at least has been consistent about pledging money and support to whomever the nominee turns out to be.

My mom's in southeast PA, and where she is has seen steady shifts blue post-asshole, so fingers crossed.

Bloomberg now has his candidates who will ensure he doesn't pay anymore in taxes. He's good.

Biden my time/Drinking her wine (PBKR), Wednesday, 4 March 2020 15:26 (six years ago)

I don't hold much faith in the candidate himself, but I do hope that he'll have the muscle of the party behind him and that they will have learned from history and not make the same mistakes.

Yeah, this is where I'm finding optimism. Surrogates who can make the case for turning out to defeat Trump will help.

my new take is that neither bernie nor biden should’ve run at all.

― Yerac, Wednesday, March 4, 2020 2:48 PM (thirty-seven minutes ago) bookmarkflaglink

Yep yep yep. I got actually angry at both of their announcements that they were going to run. For a whole bunch of reasons, I don't think either has any business being in the race. Either/both of them could have had a big influence on it from the outside, if they'd wanted.

But here we are.

it's fun to focus on biden's cognitive decline, but let's think about all these other negatives
-- voted for the iraq war
-- anita hill
-- 90s crime bill
-- handsiness
-- advocating for cutting medicare and social security
-- emails burisma nonsense

Muswell Hillbilly Elegy (President Keyes), Wednesday, 4 March 2020 15:37 (six years ago)

So I don't see why I should be pooping on Biden when his potential election gets me much of what I'd want from a president for the next four years. Which is to say, what someone here or somewhere else said, a president you can ignore. That's the upside of boring.

those are all bad things but many of the populations you'd think would be incensed by some of them (like, black voters) don't seem to hold a grudge about it. So I don't think it's going to affect his electibility in November among the demographics that actually seem to turn out and vote. I'm not looking forward to hearing six months (or 4 years) of Burisma griping; fuck we've barely gotten past Benghazi bullshit.

Another potential ray of optimism is that Biden will, one hopes, choose a demographically innovative running mate (a woman, a person of color, a woman of color)

Y'know to offset the "omg another doddering old white dude" factor

and then while in office he dies or drifts further into bewildered senility

fantasy outcome: Madam President Abrams

once the general campaign starts trump can say, 'biden advocated cutting medicare and social security for years. i never cut medicare or social security.' he would technically be right, and then he would cut funding for those programs in his second term

JoshinC is right. It's a cheap shot for a Lefty McLeftface to be all like "oh, so all you want is for the president not be Trump? Why not set your sights higher?" Dude, we generally *have*, but if we don't get exactly what we want we can still find consolation in getting *something*. This is not hard.
