I can live with that.

We all have varying feelings about the various candidates and what a vote for each portends and how a vote for x impacts my desire to see y do well etc etc but I hope we can at least all come together and agree that a vote for Bloomberg is the equivalent of voting to have a jagged fishhook slowly run through one's urethra. Just why. Just why.

I think hatred of Trump is going to be very motivating, whoever the nominee is

Dan S, Wednesday, 4 March 2020 02:03 (six years ago)

It was in 2018 but impeachment didn’t make a dent and the constant crises have flattened a lot of reaction to them. Doesn’t seem safe to count on disgust as a strong motivator.

Greta Van Show Feets BB (milo z), Wednesday, 4 March 2020 02:05 (six years ago)

You underestimate the disgust of brown people.

TikTok to the (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Wednesday, 4 March 2020 02:08 (six years ago)

I love how the midterms really saw a lot of recognition that "it is up to us." If anything, surviving impeachment might be an even greater motivator, now that there are no more formal countermeasures.

Josh in Chicago, Wednesday, 4 March 2020 02:09 (six years ago)

ok nvm fuck you tn.

but Arkansas??😍😘😍

Long lines at Texas polling stations!

Well, they did close like 500 locations.

Bougy! Bougie! Bougé! (Eliza D.), Wednesday, 4 March 2020 02:11 (six years ago)

You underestimate the disgust of brown people.

This is not borne out by numbers. Trump did better than Romney with Latinx voters in 2016 and Democrats only gained a couple of percentage points in the midterms.

Greta Van Show Feets BB (milo z), Wednesday, 4 March 2020 02:14 (six years ago)

This is not borne out tonight.

Anyway, I find these Charles Pierce headlines hilarious, sad, and true:

It Looks Like Democratic Primary Voters Want a President They Can Ignore 4 or 5 Days a Week

The Warren G. Harding pitch is hitting for Joe Biden.

TikTok to the (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Wednesday, 4 March 2020 02:17 (six years ago)

and Biden wins Oklahoma.

Whites don’t understand Biden

Near as I can tell, his appeal to African-Americans is that 1) by serving as Obama's VP he clearly demonstrated the ability to see black people as humans, and 2) they think he connects well with 'ordinary' white people, who see him favorably as 'a guy you'd have a beer with', and 3) he won't threaten rich white people, who consequently will allow him to win, which 4) makes him the safest choice out there from their perspective.

But that's all hearsay, so I don't know how right that is.

A is for (Aimless), Wednesday, 4 March 2020 02:23 (six years ago)

It's very early yet, but looking at district-by-district and county-by-county results ... I'd be very surprised if Biden doesn't take Minnesota now.

crusty but malignant (Eric H.), Wednesday, 4 March 2020 02:24 (six years ago)

Kills me to say it but Sanders is cooked. Fuck this

frogbs, Wednesday, 4 March 2020 02:26 (six years ago)

he relates to people in the “i’m going to be kind of prejudiced in a predictable way but won’t directly fuck you over. also i kind of think people could make their lives better by living right” way

and he seems like a safer choice in the face of a republican who would fuck people over

mh, Wednesday, 4 March 2020 02:26 (six years ago)

re: biden

mh, Wednesday, 4 March 2020 02:26 (six years ago)

Alfred consistently OTM tonight. Hold onto your dicks everybody - we still have Texas and California to go

thewufs, Wednesday, 4 March 2020 02:27 (six years ago)

And I'm not gloating. I expected these results in the east and west, just not by these margins. Sanders still looks good on the west coast.

TikTok to the (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Wednesday, 4 March 2020 02:28 (six years ago)

Kills me to say it but Sanders is cooked. Fuck this

whooooooa there! whoa! we've got a long way to go. it's down to sanders v biden, and sanders has the supporters in states that will actually go blue this fall

But guess what? Nobody gives a toot!😂 (Karl Malone), Wednesday, 4 March 2020 02:30 (six years ago)

I mean if VA doesn’t go for the Democrat this year we’re fucked

Swilling Ambergris, Esq. (silby), Wednesday, 4 March 2020 02:30 (six years ago)

Every trend in the last three years suggests it will comfortably.

TikTok to the (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Wednesday, 4 March 2020 02:32 (six years ago)

I think hatred of Trump is going to be very motivating, whoever the nominee is

I've been saying this all along, but now it's pretty much all I'm clinging to. Biden is a useless hack whose brain is rapidly liquefying. His ability to win primaries in states that he's gonna lose by double digits in the general (South Carolina! Oklahoma! Utah!) is not encouraging.

but also fuck you (unperson), Wednesday, 4 March 2020 02:32 (six years ago)

S’what I’m sayin’. Contra the Biden’s-voters-are-in-red-states notion, or whatever. xps

Swilling Ambergris, Esq. (silby), Wednesday, 4 March 2020 02:33 (six years ago)

I hate Trump enough to vote for Biden in November but that’s about as much energy as I’m likely to yield to Joe fucking Biden.

Swilling Ambergris, Esq. (silby), Wednesday, 4 March 2020 02:34 (six years ago)

MSNBC calling Colorado for Sanders.

TikTok to the (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Wednesday, 4 March 2020 02:35 (six years ago)

I know Sanders is still in it but he’s gonna have to win a brokered convention now correct? Which, come on

mellon collie and the infinite bradness (BradNelson), Wednesday, 4 March 2020 02:42 (six years ago)

bernie is going to do very well in CA. he's doing very well by all indications with latino vote and is going to win texas. it's going to be a race for longer than i thought it would (maybe my vote at the end of april will matter) but bernie is not cooked.

Mordy, Wednesday, 4 March 2020 02:43 (six years ago)

xpost Same here, tbh. Though there's always the governor elections, which here (and there) sometimes go GOP, to get excited about.

Bloomberg to reassess wipe his ass on White House bid on Wednesday, NBC reports

I live in Virginia now, I’m pissed at the Biden blowout here and I don’t really understand it even after the wave of moderate endorsements and dropouts, but the Elie Mystal article is a tonic and also instructive.

thewufs, Wednesday, 4 March 2020 02:45 (six years ago)

the margin in maine is literally eight votes. I can walk out the door and within one minute run into more people than the margin in maine

meanwhile, my vote is as useless in the primary as it is in the general

Most stories I've read in the last three years have focused on the Virginia suburbs that quietly and inexorably flipped since Trump became president. How liberal were they? It seemed not enough, but they are blue enough.

Members of Phish, who have known Sanders for decades, jam for him

Josh in Chicago, Wednesday, 4 March 2020 02:54 (six years ago)

Fishman made his decision after consulting with his bandmates. Phish, which has a devoted following, usually avoids becoming entangled in politics.

“It’s been a real struggle at times,” Fishman said. “I am a little bit more of an activist.” (Fishman also ran and won a local elected office in Maine in 2017.)

Meanwhile, guitarist Trey Anastasio, he said, “takes the sort of Jimi Hendrix, Jerry Garcia, Frank Sinatra” approach where you mostly avoid politicians.

“It’s not a matter of right and wrong,” he said. “There are really two different, valid opinions. Ninety-nine percent of the time, I actually lean his way on this.”

After the band huddled, a decision was made: Fishman and bassist Mike Gordon would play at Sanders’s rally on Tuesday as “members of Phish,” but not as Phish.

“The middle ground compromise is that everyone respects everyone's individual activities,” Fishman said. “We aren’t going to have Phish back Bernie Sanders. But if I wear my Bernie Sanders dress on stage, no one says boo about.”

Josh in Chicago, Wednesday, 4 March 2020 02:55 (six years ago)

literally everyone i’ve met from vermont is at most two degrees of separation away from phish. even people that do not like their music know their regular sound guy or something.

after the third story i was like... do not care about phish!

mh, Wednesday, 4 March 2020 02:57 (six years ago)

Trey Anastasio, exactly as dumb as you'd expect (re: Frankie baby)

forensic plumber (harbl), Wednesday, 4 March 2020 02:59 (six years ago)

Fishman said he doesn’t mind that Sanders, 78, sometimes refers to his band as “the Phish” rather than “Phish” — a sign that the senator might not be familiar with the the opening chords of “Bathtub Gin” or “Tweezer.”

“I’m not sure if he’s heard a note,” Fishman said, chuckling. “But The Phish? That’s better than some canned response response about how much he loves it.”
