love being told how to parent by non-parents, a real good look

Οὖτις, Tuesday, 3 March 2020 22:21 (six years ago)

i fundamentally agree that no one should own cars yet i also realize this position is unrealistic

Just sayin

I drive a Subaru, but I hate it and plan to replace it with a Honda Civic, so I voted for Bernie Sanders. My wife drives a Honda Fit and voted for Warren.

Texas has upgraded their voting tech, and I think it's a positive change. The old voting terminals were 100% electronic. With the new ones, you get a blank paper ballot that you feed into the electronic terminal. When you are done, it prints your bites on the ballot and gives it back to you. Then you feed your ballot into another machine that scans and collects the ballot. I feel like the redundancy of the process, and the paper ballot, makes it harder to mess up than the purely digital version.

Also I have a kid with a disability so fuck you twice

I only have unrealistic positions and I advocate for them wholeheartedly

My fb is disproportionately full of 35+ yo academic faculty women who love Warren and there’s no fucking way any of them drives an American car.

This seems like a great opportunity to leverage our languishing I Love Cars board

why don’t you drive an EV?

El Tomboto, Tuesday, 3 March 2020 22:34 (six years ago)

will post if we rename it I Hate Cars

Swilling Ambergris, Esq. (silby), Tuesday, 3 March 2020 22:35 (six years ago)

what are EV's flaws?

But guess what? Nobody gives a toot!😂 (Karl Malone), Tuesday, 3 March 2020 22:35 (six years ago)

I hate cars just a tiny bit less than I hate Nazis

dont have kids, have a diesel car, take the bus to work, fuckin hate ppl who take their brats on public transport tbh

its a tough puzzle

voted for trump

BSC Joan Baez (darraghmac), Tuesday, 3 March 2020 22:41 (six years ago)

I grew up in a rural area without public transit. I hate it and got away like twenty years ago but if it weren’t for cars I’d be stuck there cuz I’m too lazy and slow and not an eager walker it’s not near anything, so point for cars allowing me to escape to a pedestrian utopia.

rb (soda), Tuesday, 3 March 2020 22:44 (six years ago)

ban cars, ban Christmas, ban billionaires

- absolute minimum 50% of cars and vans in towns and cities should be a PAYG public utility. book in advance for guaranteed use, unlock on the street if available.

- Christmas is fun, nobody should have to spend it with their families. it's cool that there's an entire strand of pop music that is only listened to one month a year, and it's great when there aren't many people at the beach so you can really concentrate on your book and have a good shot at a wave

- heads on pikes, or voluntary relocation to a 2bdr in public housing (you are allowed 18 months to divest and to campaign in yr council area for improved standards in public housing)

Fantastic. Great move. Well done (sic), Tuesday, 3 March 2020 22:54 (six years ago)

This is a good conversational detour, highly recommend we continue to discuss driving norms and nothing but for the remainder of the evening.

(I only drive when I have to, do not own a car, have train commuting down to a science)

Lake Meat (Old Lunch), Tuesday, 3 March 2020 22:57 (six years ago)

Texas has upgraded their voting tech, and I think it's a positive change. The old voting terminals were 100% electronic.

Not everywhere. I voted at a Hindu temple near Houston and it still had the old machines. That new system does sound great, maybe we'll have it soon-ish?

On a related note, I sat around for a few minutes to wait for the rest of my group to get done, and had a grim laugh overhearing this volunteer reading aloud the Republican referendums to an elderly voter: while as a Democrat I got to vote "Yes" on universal Medicare, housing and food for all, this guy was deciding whether to allow school prayer, border wall funding, and mass deportations.

a bevy of supermodels, musicians and Lena Dunham (C. Grisso/McCain), Tuesday, 3 March 2020 22:58 (six years ago)

What is yr stance on thousandaires, as I am briefly one of those for a few hours every other Friday and cannot afford a pike if we're meant to supply our own.

Lake Meat (Old Lunch), Tuesday, 3 March 2020 22:59 (six years ago)

gocar sucks, sic. you have to leave them back where you picked them up.

BSC Joan Baez (darraghmac), Tuesday, 3 March 2020 23:02 (six years ago)

xxp

Disappointing it isn't the whole state, guess it's just a local thing

Mario Meatwagon (Moodles), Tuesday, 3 March 2020 23:04 (six years ago)

not under this system deems (or other real world ones)

Fantastic. Great move. Well done (sic), Tuesday, 3 March 2020 23:04 (six years ago)

its the big flaw with it here

BSC Joan Baez (darraghmac), Tuesday, 3 March 2020 23:05 (six years ago)

I had the printout voting machine but the screen was less responsive than one of those Coke touchscreen machines.

Greta Van Show Feets BB (milo z), Tuesday, 3 March 2020 23:06 (six years ago)

If I got rid of my car, who would drive my principled friends around?

xxxxxp

DJI, Tuesday, 3 March 2020 23:08 (six years ago)

What is yr stance on thousandaires

ideally they are also functionally eradicated, by giving everyone access to the same level of social care as a current millionaire

pikes are fully socialised though, and maintained in a public location with multiple public transport connections

Fantastic. Great move. Well done (sic), Tuesday, 3 March 2020 23:09 (six years ago)

In a pinch you can use a novelty-sized pencil.

rb (soda), Tuesday, 3 March 2020 23:10 (six years ago)

pike places

BSC Joan Baez (darraghmac), Tuesday, 3 March 2020 23:11 (six years ago)

and mark it

(like, they shouldn't be in the public square per se, as kids shouldn't have to look at them if they don't want to. but anyone who wants a nice afternoon contemplate ought to be able to go by and cop a squiz.)

Fantastic. Great move. Well done (sic), Tuesday, 3 March 2020 23:12 (six years ago)

I wouldn't drive if Orlando wasn't a hilarious malfunctioning toilet whose busing system takes you 2 hours to get 5 miles across town and the public train only runs M-F and only travels on a straight line to very specific areas nowhere near me.

as it is, I risk death just about every day driving and hate it.

sorry for butt rockin (Neanderthal), Tuesday, 3 March 2020 23:14 (six years ago)

.....at 2.5 miles an hour?

BSC Joan Baez (darraghmac), Tuesday, 3 March 2020 23:16 (six years ago)

the bus takes 2 hours to get five miles because it's routes are all over the place and there are far too few of them, not because they travel at comedy tricycle speeds.

besides I don't drive a bus, if I wanted to put hundreds of lives at risk, I'd just throw a buncha gators into the Amway Center

sorry for butt rockin (Neanderthal), Tuesday, 3 March 2020 23:19 (six years ago)

also cos you gotta like make ten bus switches along the way. I've used other states' busing systems and they make more sense than ours.

sorry for butt rockin (Neanderthal), Tuesday, 3 March 2020 23:19 (six years ago)

My city’s mass transit is some weird rideshare van thing, which is somehow a 1000% improvement on what came before.
