now, that's very understandable. this year is shaping up to be a sad one. my best hope is spending time outdoors as much as possible. I find nature helps my sadness.

Because no African-American entertainer has ever made their name by playing a foolish character. Flavor Flav was a childhood piano prodigy, went to culinary school, and plays at least a half dozen musical instruments. He and Chuck D met in college. If you think he's a moron, you're seeing what he wants you to see and no more.

Warren, out of everyone, is the person I think has the strongest claim for making a play at the convention -- she is arguably the person who is acceptable and appealing to the broadest coalition of Dem voters. If she were consistently getting 15% and coming in third I would think her case was quite strong. As it is, I dunno. I do think there are people on the big-money side of the party who truly see her as a bomb-throwing commie, which I can't quite grasp, but people are different.

If you're Latino in Miami under 30, you lean toward Sanders. Warren has no constituency here in my anecdotal experience beyond, yeah, men and women over 35 (gay and straight), with college degrees or higher. Biden has everybody else. I've never heard anyone mention Bloomberg.

I honestly don't see what makes her significantly more moderate than Sanders on economic or environmental policy or appealing to the big money side of the party? Arguably, she may be more hardcore about taking on Wall Street. Also not sure what the basis for regarding her as acceptable and appealing to the broadest coalition of Dem voters when she is clearly not acceptable and appealing enough to get their votes?xp

xxposts wealth tax is anathema to people with big wealth. but yes in an alternate world where that was not the case, Warren (especially a Warren who starts racking up reasonable numbers of delegates tomorrow) could be the most plausible "bridge" candidate between Sanders and the centrists. there'd be a lot of other work to do and stans of various factions to calm down, etc. etc. i'd be very very surprised if that happened though --- the balance of delegates among the candidates being bridged would have to be just so.

You can still be pretty acceptable and appealing without being someone's first choice. But look, I'm not saying this is going to happen, just what Doctor Casino is saying -- she's the only plausible bridge candidate. it's more likely we are not going to try to bridge, and that's fine, because Dem voters will get behind the nominee whoever it is. Biden: "if I don't get the nomination and Bernie gets it, I'm going to work like hell for him." Sanders said much the same about Biden just the other day, can't find the quote now.

I keep marvelling at how people seem to want to spin her as a moderate or pragmatic alternative to Sanders when she is running on virtually the same platform, with less of a popular base, after a term and a half as a shit-disturber in the Senate.

Also, how realistic is Sanders's suggested plan of using the VP to force legislation through the Senate under budget reconciliation rules vs abolishing the filibuster altogether? It seems like something a President could actually do but also a curious way of using executive power?

I really wonder what it would look like if we did ranked choice because I think that's what is killing Warren; you don't get points for being everyone's second- or third-favorite.

i did this 538 Super Tuesday sim with my own guesses of where each state would go and ended up with uh Sanders and Biden exactly tied at 14.8% chance to win a majority :(

I thought this piece really crystallized the appeal of Warren for me (and others like me) but also pointed to why she hasn't won over the masses:
