i know there's tight competition for worst debate of the election but both this and biden's mandela lie going completely unquestioned was ridiculous

℺ ☽ ⋠ ⏎ (✖), Friday, 28 February 2020 03:49 (six years ago)

Let’s be clear: I won't take a dime of PAC money in this campaign. I won't take a single check from a federal lobbyist, or billionaires who want to run a Super PAC on my behalf.

And I challenge every other candidate who asks for your vote in this primary to do the same.

— Elizabeth Warren (@ewarren) February 9, 2019

it's cool that pledges just don't mean shit

bold caucasian eroticism (Simon H.), Friday, 28 February 2020 03:52 (six years ago)

Not gonna troll a couple of friends who decided Bernie's medical records thing made him unfit for office.

Why should pledges mean shit, these people want to be president, they aren’t good

mookieproof, Friday, 28 February 2020 04:33 (six years ago)

generally when candidates do bad things they receive some degree of pushback in the media/debates. if bernie started accepting super pac money or was caught lying about his history with nelson mandela it'd dominate the news cycle for a week. both of these things came and went with little comment.

imo warren building her brand as "the other progressive candidate who can't be bought" and then parroting the bullshit dark money line against bernie before turning around to accept more super pac money than anyone else in the race is buttigieg-level slime. it should be a story. and it's not like it's just a bullshit purity test - she's been bought, and if she somehow made it to the white house she'd get there owing a debt to millionaires or billionaires.

this is a failing of the bernie campaign, they've generally resisted going after her directly and they've completely eased up on biden since iowa.

are billionaires running her Super PAC?

Fantastic. Great move. Well done (sic), Friday, 28 February 2020 08:26 (six years ago)

No way it would was done without deep pockets if it got put together this fast, but it doesn't appear there will be any way to get a breakdown for a while.

bold caucasian eroticism (Simon H.), Friday, 28 February 2020 09:06 (six years ago)

This should be disqualifying imo but I understand Bernie campaign laying off at least *for now*—by and large her voters will soon turn to him, and she's not posing a threat that is yet worth inflaming them

Suggest Banshee (Hadrian VIII), Friday, 28 February 2020 11:59 (six years ago)

I for one find it easy to believe the person who created the CFPB and wrote the book on how bankruptcy fleeces Americans is owned by corporate interests #roseemoji

You don't have to think she's "bought" to think this sucks ass

bold caucasian eroticism (Simon H.), Friday, 28 February 2020 12:34 (six years ago)

Nice to see this thread has turned into the “stop stop he’s already dead” meme. Warren is no longer a threat y’all; Bernie cultists, look elsewhere to get your persecution jollies.

Evans on Hammond (evol j), Friday, 28 February 2020 12:34 (six years ago)

Oh, piss off. She may not have a straight path to the nomination but she can certainly pick up a healthy chunk of delegates, which could certainly matter down the line.

bold caucasian eroticism (Simon H.), Friday, 28 February 2020 12:45 (six years ago)

indeed if you are bummed Warren is taking PAC money after vowing not to, you have clearly been indoctrinated into a CULT

Suggest Banshee (Hadrian VIII), Friday, 28 February 2020 12:59 (six years ago)

You have clearly been indoctrinated into a cult if you think this is disqualifying.

We know Our Revolution is willing to receive six-figure anonymous donations, and has. We won't know how much money they're receiving in the election year and how they're spending it until after the election because their structure as a 501(c)(4) allows them to escape the interim reporting requirements that PACs are subject to.

I haven't seen reporting on how much the National Nurses Union super PAC is spending supporting Sanders this time round ($5 million in 2016). Others?

by the light of the burning Citroën, Friday, 28 February 2020 13:15 (six years ago)

I really hate that Sanders is in the pocket of Big Nurse

Good money, I bet.

bold caucasian eroticism (Simon H.), Friday, 28 February 2020 13:26 (six years ago)

xxp it's another misguided hedge on the principles she campaigned on, if it's not "disqualifying" for you on those grounds that's fine, though as a practical consideration these compromises have not helped her in "qualifying" for many delegates

but cult, yes

Suggest Banshee (Hadrian VIII), Friday, 28 February 2020 13:27 (six years ago)

are six-figure anonymous donors consistent with Sanders' principles? or hedging?

by the light of the burning Citroën, Friday, 28 February 2020 13:29 (six years ago)

In response to an Intercept inquiry, Our Revolution provided information on its donors, which is not yet public, saying that in 2019, it only received a total of six donations over $5,000. Last year, the average individual contribution to Our Revolution was $17.73, with 99.99 percent of its donations coming in under $5,000, according to the group.

The six big contributions totaled $78,289.53 last year, or roughly 4 percent of its revenue. The biggest contribution was around $25,000. Our Revolution, from all sources, took in $1.87 million in 2019, and the bulk of that was spent on state and local races or other organizing campaigns separate from the Sanders presidential run.

For comparison, VoteVets alone, a super PAC that supports liberal veterans for public office and is backing Buttigieg, has spent $2.1 million airing ads for the former mayor so far. Our Revolution’s board has to approve any donation over $5,000.

bold caucasian eroticism (Simon H.), Friday, 28 February 2020 13:36 (six years ago)

yes, and any donor giving Our Revolution more than $250 is listed on its website.

A good round-up here:

https://readsludge.com/2020/02/10/fact-check-does-bernie-sanders-get-support-from-big-money-super-pacs/

Suggest Banshee (Hadrian VIII), Friday, 28 February 2020 13:47 (six years ago)

"listed on its website"

yes, as "anonymous"

by the light of the burning Citroën, Friday, 28 February 2020 13:51 (six years ago)

The group says it takes transparency seriously and discloses donors on its website, though it does not list how much was given. In some cases, the group omits names altogether, listing them as “anonymous.” The source of a $100,000 check, for example, was blank on the group’s 2017 tax forms. The same goes for a $300,000 donation reported on the group’s 2016 taxes.

“If people are requesting to be anonymous, we have to respect their wishes,”

He believes in revolutionary mass mobilization and, once an election has been won, rule by majoritarian domination.

Suggest Banshee (Hadrian VIII), Friday, 28 February 2020 14:01 (six years ago)

xxp I'm not sure that's the bolstering article you think it is

Suggest Banshee (Hadrian VIII), Friday, 28 February 2020 14:02 (six years ago)

It's different years, isn't it? Our Revolution took big anonymous money in 2017 and 18, and didn't in 2019. We don't know what they are doing in 2020.
