He said he wasn't going to piss about responding to every bad-faith call for his health records when he'd already released his health records.

Fantastic. Great move. Well done (sic), Monday, 24 February 2020 19:44 (six years ago)

Did he? If he did I stand corrected. If he did, then what is there to ask for?

Josh in Chicago, Monday, 24 February 2020 19:45 (six years ago)

IIRC from debate:

Buttigieg: Bernie Sanders said he was going to release health records, why hasn't he not?
Sanders: I did, you putz, plus several letters from doctors regarding my health.
Buttigieg: Yes, but why does you not release health records? I am having concerned.

Expart of Languidge (Old Lunch), Monday, 24 February 2020 19:48 (six years ago)

I may not have the wording quite right but I believe that was the gist.

Expart of Languidge (Old Lunch), Monday, 24 February 2020 19:48 (six years ago)

in the future, you'll decide if you want to consider being president at age 5 and be fitted with a sensor package that constantly monitors all your vital signs. the complete set of records will be available to the populace when you announce your candidacy

alternatively, your health insurance provider's fitbit or apple watch device mandated by your policy terms will release the records when you push a button in the app

mh, Monday, 24 February 2020 19:56 (six years ago)

health records are the new long-form birth certificate

Generous Grant for Stepladder Creamery (bizarro gazzara), Monday, 24 February 2020 20:02 (six years ago)

WHY HAVE YOU NOT PROVIDED A MINUTE-BY-MINUTE ACCOUNTING OF YOUR LIFE UP UNTIL THE MOMENT I ASKED THIS QUESTION, WHAT ARE YOU TRYING TO HIDE

Expart of Languidge (Old Lunch), Monday, 24 February 2020 20:04 (six years ago)

Isn't that what his person said? Compared it to birtherism or some shit? I'm not really paying close attention to this stuff yet, but tbf he literally just had a heart attack. Hell, for all I know they've all had heart attacks, including President Fart Attack.

Josh in Chicago, Monday, 24 February 2020 20:05 (six years ago)

I haven't watched any of the debates, but would totally watch one if they were all wearing medical masks.

"What is your position on gun control"

"Mmrrffuffufer!"

Josh in Chicago, Monday, 24 February 2020 20:06 (six years ago)

I'm not really paying close attention to this stuff yet, but tbf he literally just had a heart attack.

tbf this is literally what the three doctor’s letters were about.

Fantastic. Great move. Well done (sic), Monday, 24 February 2020 20:17 (six years ago)

Yes, but when is he going to provide us with a doctor's commentary on his health, particularly as regards his recent heart attack? When? When?!

Expart of Languidge (Old Lunch), Monday, 24 February 2020 20:19 (six years ago)

I guess I was just confused by the story I saw fly by my feed. Something about Sanders declaring he would be totally transparent, then later changing his position to something more like "I've been transparent enough" or something? Again, if that's the case, fine. I don't really give a shit one way or another, if he's nominated he's got my vote even if he's running from the ICU.

Josh in Chicago, Monday, 24 February 2020 20:20 (six years ago)

AFAICT it's some 'when are you going to release your tax returns?'/'I totally did already.'/'yes, but where are the receipts?!' bullshit escalation.

Expart of Languidge (Old Lunch), Monday, 24 February 2020 20:23 (six years ago)

idgaf if he drops dead his first year on the job, longa s he has a strong VP candidate

sorry for butt rockin (Neanderthal), Monday, 24 February 2020 20:23 (six years ago)

How is releasing more information than the other candidates, including new updates from your personal physician and two (2) cardiologists, NOT being transparent enough? It’s not “changing his position” to say he already did something that he already did.

Fantastic. Great move. Well done (sic), Monday, 24 February 2020 20:31 (six years ago)

his masterplan is to have a second, fatal heart attack in '26 to set up a run from the Candidate Least Likely To Drop Dead: AOC. masterful

bold caucasian eroticism (Simon H.), Monday, 24 February 2020 20:32 (six years ago)

idgaf if he drops dead his first year on the job, long ass he has a strong VP candidate

this is why I want cyborg Elizabeth Warren as his VP

Fantastic. Great move. Well done (sic), Monday, 24 February 2020 20:32 (six years ago)

I think Sanders' health is a legit concern but if it's not hurting him in the primary then it's not gonna hurt him in the general

frogbs, Monday, 24 February 2020 20:32 (six years ago)

dang xpost, also lol

Fantastic. Great move. Well done (sic), Monday, 24 February 2020 20:32 (six years ago)

part of turnout isn't just betting on youth, it's the fact that a lot of millennials are squarely in the 30-40 group not in their twenties and more likely to vote, Republicans do so terribly in any younger demos that this number increases every year

conversely the GOP's most reliable demo dies off every year

compared to four years ago there's a lot more 35 yr old millennials and a lot more dead Fox News junkies

who really gives a fuck if Sanders said something mildly complimentary to Castro? Our current president has his lips attached to Putin's colon human-centipede style. No one gives a fuck.

akm, Monday, 24 February 2020 21:00 (six years ago)

apologizing for saying that stuff would have been a lot worse

Muswell Hillbilly Elegy (President Keyes), Monday, 24 February 2020 21:01 (six years ago)

but Putin is not a... COMMUNIST! ofc, neither is Fidel Castro, who is a corpse.

A is for (Aimless), Monday, 24 February 2020 21:02 (six years ago)

Insofar as Fidel Castro is, in fact, Justin Trudeau's biological father, this bodes well for future US-Canada relations.

Warren doesn't add a swing state to the ticket. I think the obvious choices would be Senator Baldwin (if she's willing) or Stacey Abrams. Either would make a good president, in fact either would be better than Sanders.

Death protein 5 (Sanpaku), Monday, 24 February 2020 21:04 (six years ago)

there's so many ppl in media/politics, Trump esp. who seem to think everything stopped in 85

Staffing the executive branch, regulatory agencies.

― TikTok to the (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Monday, February 24, 2020 5:21 AM (nine hours ago)

I'm not trying to be to obtuse here, but--can you be more specific? Why would Warren be better at staffing than Bernie?

JRN, Monday, 24 February 2020 21:05 (six years ago)

When I asked Warren what people didn’t understand about the powers federal agencies wielded, that was her answer. “Personnel is policy here,” she replied. “The tools are already embedded in the agencies. It’s just going to take somebody to pick them up and use them.”

The tricky thing about this part of Warren’s worldview is that no candidate would really argue with it. They all agree that personnel matters, that choosing good people and managing them well is important. But there’s a difference between knowing it and prioritizing it, between saying it and doing it. For Warren, putting the right people in the right jobs — and, just as importantly, keeping the wrong people out of those jobs — is an obsession, and she spends her political capital accordingly.

haven't both them said they're not interested in being the VP? I am pretty sure Abrams did. Not sure if Baldwin would want to leave her post, people love her here

frogbs, Monday, 24 February 2020 21:18 (six years ago)

I think finding competent and experienced managers who also have visibly progressive politics would be difficult for both Warren and Sanders, because both the corporate world and recent federal administrations have favored elevating those who bolster the status quo, and when they are not status quo moderates, they are more often conservatives/libertarians/buccaneers than progressives. This limits the experienced talent pool.

My sense is that both Warren and Sanders would need to look to academia, law firms, and to politicians from smaller jurisdictions who seem smart and capable of learning fast on the job, with the aid and assistance of the professional civil service bureaucrats under them. I think Warren would be more likely to seek academics and lawyers, while Sanders would be more likely to seek younger politicians.

that trial balloon coming out of the sanders campaign speculating about making the VP also a cabinet secretary was v exciting and I hope they do that.

xpost jrn, this is from The Root (Michael Harriot) but I like how he brings up that she is intentional. She is super organized and intentional and is doing the work and not just coasting on having potential.

She has displayed the ability to translate her progressive policies into populist ideas, something that Sanders still struggles with. She is intentional about highlighting the scourge of institutional white supremacy, LGBTQ rights and underrepresented communities. She is willing to stand up to the rich without demonizing success. She is careful to explain progressive tax policy as a math problem that will uplift the poor, implement corporate responsibility and benefit the middle class.

Yerac, Monday, 24 February 2020 21:22 (six years ago)

i'm guessing this is meant to read 'translate her populist ideas into progressive policies'

Li'l Brexit (Tracer Hand), Monday, 24 February 2020 21:25 (six years ago)

I'm guessing Harriot hadn't entirely thought through what he was attempting to convey and just settled for some suggestive verbiage, which when examined closely is quite confusing

here's the link. in general most of gizmodo/kinja/whatever it's called blog posts are so so about editing/correcting after posting.

Yerac, Monday, 24 February 2020 21:32 (six years ago)

I would say Sanders has been quite intentional too, in terms of reaching out to communities that he struggled with before. And it seems like he’s been much more successful in doing so.

She is careful to explain progressive tax policy as a math problem that will uplift the poor, implement corporate responsibility and benefit the middle class.

My feeling is that this framing mainly connects with people who are not actually in the more marginalized communities that she’s trying to build support in..

JoeStork, Monday, 24 February 2020 21:34 (six years ago)

I just can’t take an article seriously with that opening paragraph

JoeStork, Monday, 24 February 2020 21:35 (six years ago)

Of VP choices not yet mentioned, I'd also be happy if Sanders picked Sen. Jeff Merkley (OR-Dem) as his VP.

A is for (Aimless), Monday, 24 February 2020 21:36 (six years ago)

i see you are not familiar with michael harriot. xpost.

Yerac, Monday, 24 February 2020 21:36 (six years ago)

I think I’ve encountered his writing before but does he always do this awful fairy-tale shit? He doesn’t even spell dotard correctly.

JoeStork, Monday, 24 February 2020 21:38 (six years ago)

She is intentional about highlighting the scourge of institutional white supremacy

i can think of one thing she's done that has highlighted the scourge of institutional white supremacy

All the Warren staffing/blah blah blah stuff is very 2016 “Hillary is the most QUALIFIED candidate ever” because, uh, vague credentials.

Bernie has as much or more ‘executive’ experience than Warren. He’s been staffing Congressional offices for three decades, successful mayor for what, a decade?
