it was just what Gabe Kaplan's impression of Ed Sullivan would call a "Jew joke"

i thought it might be, seems a bit odd to bring up bloomberg's jewishness of all things as a joke tho

equam phillips (crüt), Saturday, 22 February 2020 04:31 (six years ago)

I’m starting to realize that Morbius and calzino really are the champions of all politics threads because they absolutely DGAF, in any way, about the norms of expression or the points of argument that most of the rest of us try and act concerned about. Fly in, talk shit, pay only as much attention as you want. It’s a pretty defensible approach.

If you guys knew the level of ethnic humor I laughed at DAILY as a kid, and occasionally engaged in on college radio and in improv jams, I would've been permabanned a long time ago.

re Tombot's point, yes, it's just a fucking bb and I don't know most of you clowns.

Sen. Elizabeth Warren reversed her position on rejecting super PAC support as she seeks a comeback in the Democratic presidential primary. Warren, who has previously said that she would disavow the support of a super PAC that sought to aid her bid for the presidency, told reporters that she had changed her mind after failing to get her rivals to join her in repudiating the outside spending groups.

ahhhh the highly coveted Second Place that reveals Comeback Momentum which indicates Imminent Victory

congrats uncle joe

majority whip, majority nae nae (m bison), Sunday, 23 February 2020 00:46 (six years ago)

still, it woulda been prrrretty cool if he won a thirst quenching Sprite(c)

majority whip, majority nae nae (m bison), Sunday, 23 February 2020 00:46 (six years ago)

unfortunately you have to have at least half the state delegates as the actual winner in order to qualify for the Sprite(c), so it seems likely that only sanders will be obeying his thirst tonight

But guess what? Nobody gives a toot!😂 (Karl Malone), Sunday, 23 February 2020 00:55 (six years ago)

wait is this how democracy works in America (a division of Coca-Cola) now???

majority whip, majority nae nae (m bison), Sunday, 23 February 2020 00:56 (six years ago)

America is really a collection of small businesses

that collection of small businesses is a division for the Amazon(c) Corporation(c)

At the Warren rally: she arrived late from Nevada, opened by congratulating Bernie (some applause, a few cheers, a woman behind me blew a raspberry), moved on to “Since Wednesday night—“ and got drowned out by celebratory noise.

Fantastic. Great move. Well done (sic), Sunday, 23 February 2020 03:06 (six years ago)

Next up, swipes at Bloomberg: hall echoes with jeering.

Fantastic. Great move. Well done (sic), Sunday, 23 February 2020 03:07 (six years ago)

Moves quickly on to struggling family autobio, which is rolleye to me in this context but hits well with some demos (lots of parent / daughter groups in the crowd) — doesn’t dwell & uses it for setup to talk about GFC and CFPB. She’s good at this!

Fantastic. Great move. Well done (sic), Sunday, 23 February 2020 03:15 (six years ago)

Such a big cheer for wealth tax that she drops the connective tissue and just hollers on Green New Deal, path to citizenship &al. each time the roar subsides.

“All progressives believe in these fundamentals, but you wanna know the one big difference between me and Bernie? He’s not for abolishing the filibuster, and I won’t give Mitch McConnell a veto.”

Fantastic. Great move. Well done (sic), Sunday, 23 February 2020 03:20 (six years ago)

Does the President decide that?

equam phillips (crüt), Sunday, 23 February 2020 03:29 (six years ago)

nope

Asked about a running mate, she asks to talk about administration instead. Demographics again: she doesn’t even get to finish her sentence about a Secretary of Education, but there are only smatterings of applause during a few minutes of climate change / climate justice talk.

Beto fundraising number suggests Bernie now officially yesterday's news, faces stiff competition for youth vote

— Jennifer Rubin (@JRubinBlogger) March 18, 2019

𝔠𝔞𝔢𝔨 (caek), Sunday, 23 February 2020 03:43 (six years ago)

Well, yeah, that was stupid. It was also eleven months before anyone had voted. Back then interest in the race was very high because everyone who hated Trump wanted him out asap and couldn't wait to get started. Pundits had to supply the huge demand for insight. As usual, they were no smarter than anyone else at seeing the future, but had to write as if they had some innate wisdom to share. That's their job. Being right is not their job.

It is still early in terms of delegate allocation, knowing whether it will be decided on a first ballot, and wtf the general election will look like in any way. At least now we have a few inklings to work with.

A is for (Aimless), Sunday, 23 February 2020 04:21 (six years ago)

the "insight" people demand does involve being right IMO. but the problem here is not that the she was wrong. people are wrong about the future. it's the facile and simplistic pattern matching on "youth vote". this is cillizza-level stuff.

I mean tbf, there is also a subset of Bernie supporters who should probably hear the message "twitter is not real life" a little more often.

i am a horse girl (map), Sunday, 23 February 2020 04:52 (six years ago)

the "insight" people demand does involve being right IMO.

But in demanding correct prognostications people are simply asking that their delusions be fed, which is a more correct job description for what pundits are doing when they satisfy such demands. It is rare that anyone ever goes back and dredges up those self-assured but wildly inaccurate statements, because everyone knows that nobody cares long after the true facts are known and there is no penalty for inaccuracy.

𝔠𝔞𝔢𝔨 (caek), Sunday, 23 February 2020 04:59 (six years ago)

xp: It's a rough day for people (like myself) who think Bernie's rhetoric, and the forthcoming oppo shittorrent, will mean a Trump reelection, loss of the judiciary for decades, and death of more of our great-grandchildren. I hope I'm wrong, but I expect to shift my donations/volunteering to senate races, we'll need a majority either way.
