This just reminded me that when Frenzal Rhomb singer and non-bassist Jay Whalley joined semi-comedic punk/metal band Nancy Vandal on bass for one album, he used the name Jason Jasonn Beers in reference to INXS' bassist Garry Gary Beers

This is the first one in this thread that I got chills reading the name. However, somebody has made use of it in the meantime, and it fails to live up to expectations.

And how long did Celibate Rifles exist until I found out it was a pun? A very long time..
― Mark G, Wednesday, 19 February 2020 23:20 (six years ago)
Pretty sure Wevie Stonder is the guy's real name.
― henry s, Thursday, 20 February 2020 02:59 (six years ago)
Never really got Celibate Rifles. I mean, "celibate" may be the opposite of "sex", but "rifle" is surely not the opposite of "pistol." If that was their point.

Maybe not pertinent to this thread but I went in search of Kurt Vile’s first album at Other Music in ‘08. The clerk who helped me was like, ‘sure, right here,’ and produced an lp by Kurt Weil.

― Neil S, Thursday, 20 February 2020 09:12 (six years ago)
I thought Watt Stalker would be a good name for a very loud metal band with crooner vocals. Sunn O))) and Scott missed a trick there.
Joy Orbison I just can't fathom. It's so pointless, what's the relationship? Is it just that Roy Orbison is 'old timey'? At least Wevie Stonder is supposed to be ridiculous.
― Noel Emits, Thursday, 20 February 2020 13:32 (six years ago)
I recall coming across a band once called Deflator Mouse. That's pretty funny. It's not a musical pun, per se (though it is a musical pun), but I always liked the band name Shitty Shitty Band Band.
― Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 20 February 2020 13:44 (six years ago)
Shitty Shitty Band Band is all-time, have heard they are aptly named though.

ok, "Shitty Shitty Band Band" gets a grin out of me every time I think it
I'm actually listening to them now...kinda not terrible? I was expecting noisy skronk but instead it's kinda skewed Americana or something, alternating male/female vox, reminds me a bit of...Wussy? 31 monthly listeners on Spotify.

I was sad to discover that Deflator Mouse was taken when I was a-huntin’ for a band name.
Shitty Shitty Band Band has me in tears.
I feel like “The Incredible Bing Strand” should be an album by conductor/cornetist Bing “The King Of Swing” Strand.
Hate Joy Orbison, Com Truise & the like, but the laziest shittiest one on the list is Wevie Stonder.

A friend of mine had a really great/annoying band for a while and they were booked to open for Wolf Eyes. I don't think Wolf Eyes were so into their set; the day after the show, they posted "thanks so much for coming to the show last night, apologies about the bum opener, but we had a great time with y'all" or however Wolf Eyes type these things.
My friend was like "...bum opener?" and we've been sitting on Bum Opener as a great future band name
