lol

It’s a shame Mike Bloomberg can buy his way into the debate. But at least now primary voters curious about how each candidate will take on Donald Trump can get a live demonstration of how we each take on an egomaniac billionaire. https://t.co/H02radEZcv

I've been completely uninterested in watching the debates up to now but I am very curious to see all the candidates ripping into Bloomberg to his face.

Fetchboy, Tuesday, 18 February 2020 20:23 (six years ago)

Did Bloomberg do any debate in NYC? Seems like he'd be prickly bastard.

Muswell Hillbilly Elegy (President Keyes), Tuesday, 18 February 2020 20:34 (six years ago)

throwing Bloomberg onstage with Bernie is like tossing raw meat to a lion

Οὖτις, Tuesday, 18 February 2020 20:39 (six years ago)

i expect bloomberg to get thrashed and perform in a way that makes one wonder how he has any supporters at all. i also expect him to take a 2 point hit in the polls and bounce back the next week.

But guess what? Nobody gives a toot!😂 (Karl Malone), Tuesday, 18 February 2020 20:41 (six years ago)

What good is money if it can't scrub away those unpleasant moments when people are exposed to your unmediated self?

he will make the audience sign NDAs

Sanders got an arena crowd of 17,000 in a 200k population city south of Seattle last night.

Warren drew 15,000 to Seattle Center (open-air reschedule from a 7000 cap theatre) a few months ago, and is back there this Saturday.

Fantastic. Great move. Well done (sic), Tuesday, 18 February 2020 21:42 (six years ago)

FEC complaint filed over Buttigieg campaign improperly coordinating over $600,000 of ads in Nevada: https://www.wsj.com/livecoverage/campaign-wire-election-2020/card/1582040834

(Campaign's response is that it's fine bcz they asked the SuperPAC publicly on twitter, not in secret)

Grumpy right now about the way the Warren erasure/premature obituaries have become a self-fulfilling prophecy. If the media doesn't poll about her candidacy or cover her speeches or report on her campaign events, then, heck, voters can just conclude that she's not in the race anymore, so it's a waste of time to even consider voting for her, right? Except all of those things are EXACTLY why people don't think she's viable. Which is what is, in neat circular fashion, making her less and less viable. I find this infuriating, personally.

And even if you prefer another candidate (which lots of people do) or prefer to vote strategically (which lots of people do), then may you could take a second to reflect on maybe that is pretty fucking infuriating too?

Natalie Wouldn't (Ye Mad Puffin), Wednesday, 19 February 2020 02:30 (six years ago)

It’s quite shitty and I’m definitely dismayed about it

Swilling Ambergris, Esq. (silby), Wednesday, 19 February 2020 02:31 (six years ago)

Still voting for her in the Florida primary.

TikTok to the (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Wednesday, 19 February 2020 02:33 (six years ago)

we're still voting for Warren too.

(yeah, there was that Warren erasure thing/ the only female pres. candidate americans are willing to support is the one not running in jezebel?)

Yerac, Wednesday, 19 February 2020 02:35 (six years ago)

Do you consider yourself the Democratic frontrunner, @andersoncooper asks.

Re: Warren, I thought this was an interesting article on her foreign policy: https://www.thenation.com/article/politics/sasha-baker-elizabeth-warren-foreign-policy/

It gets at some of the problems with her candidacy, the way that trying to keep ties to the establishment while agreeing 90% with the Sanders camp leaves everyone a little unsure of her. I get the worries about her being written off, but at the same time I find it a little silly that “erasure” is the buzzword - she got endorsed by the NYTimes! And in the media’s defense, disappointing results for a 2nd/3rd place contender are less of a story than total collapse of a front-runner or sudden surge of an also-ran.

When you're doing something completely ineffectual, you've got to keep doing it until it works.

Amy Klobuchar reacts to Pete Buttigieg knocking her for not recalling the Mexican president's name: "When that happened, for what it's worth, I had been in the Senate all day. … I would say to the mayor, this isn't like a game of 'Jeopardy!'" #cnntownhall https://t.co/S9S8IYLXb7 pic.twitter.com/q1VrxptfPv

Whoa Amy, don't whip your whole arsenal out at once!

sorry for butt rockin (Neanderthal), Wednesday, 19 February 2020 04:43 (six years ago)

She's right in one respect, that presidents have an elaborate and extensive support structure to keep them informed of whatever facts they need to understand when making decisions. Instantly recalling the names of world leaders on demand is not a critical talent presidents to master. There's always someone available to brief them about whatever they want to know.

A more hazardous task when serving the Klobuchar administration, of course.

I was at an event last week where someone from very near Minnesota was speaking and there was strong passive-aggressive Amy energy with some similar attitudes.

black people waking up in the morning now and checking the news to see if they somehow endorsed a campaign yesterday without their knowledge

mh, Wednesday, 19 February 2020 15:28 (six years ago)

As if it even needs to be said, I just have to say that it's truly pathetic that there are Democrats vying for the presidency in 2020 whose attitude wrt courting non-white voters is on par with my attitude wrt cleaning a toilet. 'Ugh...I guess have to.'

Sammo Hazuki's Tago Mago Cantina (Old Lunch), Wednesday, 19 February 2020 15:28 (six years ago)

some black people talked to Pete, ergo they endorse him; that's how it works

The taking of "foreign" names in language classes was always so cringe. My friend Miles was in French and took the name "Kilometres" and everybody laughed but it was only funny for like two days and that was in 1981.

i was Andrés in 9th and 10th grade Spanish. kinda bummed that before that, we went through four years of required German and never got names assigned.
