I watched 3.0 earlier this year. Is there a "standard" fan theory over what happens? I am guessing that the god in the abyss was actually Lilith, NERV having tricked Kaworu into thinking it was Adam (by switching the bodies and decapitating Lilith themselves), Kaworu then tricking Shinji into thinking it was Lilith (which it actually was). Very Princess Bride cup game.

i know ppl love it 2.0 turning into a dating sim about halfway through is just the pits for me. making 3.0 about the fallout of shinji being a hero at the end of 2.0 was the correct artistic decision

the shinji/rei/asuka dynamic in the show is very weird and subtle and develops naturally over a long period of time so of course it can't be replicated in the movie, i just wish it hadn't been replaced with everyone trying to cook a meal for shinji bc they have a huge crush on him

on someone's recommendation I watched Devilman Crybaby which was so "poor man's Eva" by the end I almost couldn't believe it (I also hated the animation style)

i have heard of yet not watched that one but i hate most post-eva anime to begin with
