I have to do an * to include both, because sometimes I get mentioned by my old un, but there are a bunch of posters who would have to do multiple searches, and some of them have a variety of long-ass names, so they just get referred to by an acronym, or their first name, or a googleproofed version of a first name ...

sub board for Irish posters and events and topics of an hibernian nature, min. 50% by blood to mod, but such mod rights to be absolute and automatic on that basis

Who is included by the 50% minimum?

gramsci in your surplice (gyac), Monday, 9 March 2020 16:15 (six years ago)

I dunno, i threw it out there as an ideal and without concern as to how it would affect the governance and running of things thereafter

if we could fall out over it that would be wonderful, we'd already have our treaty origin story set

BSC Joan Baez (darraghmac), Monday, 9 March 2020 16:17 (six years ago)

Dev v Collins was the original mod drama

In the interests of constantly improving our democracy (& not lagging behind the labour party) I wld like to make the case for polls with preferential votes (i.e. you can number your choices). However much work wld be involved you know it wld be a storming success.

ogmor, Monday, 9 March 2020 18:30 (six years ago)

imagine the excitement of the stats loving silent majority of ilx when they;re able to see multiple rounds of voting w/ options gradually getting eliminated

ogmor, Monday, 9 March 2020 18:32 (six years ago)

Separation of embed options so I can keep images on but switch off YouTubes

thread-specific killfile

Webcam Du Bois (Hadrian VIII), Monday, 23 March 2020 20:18 (six years ago)

would settle for built in, nonuserscript killfile on web

silby, Monday, 23 March 2020 20:19 (six years ago)

stet can you like. make a bug bounty program where we crowdfund specific feature improvements

silby, Monday, 23 March 2020 20:19 (six years ago)

> thread-specific killfile

this is already possible. the includes at the top of the file list the urls that this script applies to. replace the wildcards with something more specific (boardid and threadid)

three weeks pass...

stigmatize necroposting: it confuses newcomers and makes them think ilx is "old" and "inactive" and "irrelevant"

archive all threads that haven't been posted in for over 6 months

repeatedly bumping old threads with posts that add nothing to the conversation ("cool", "haha", "amazing") = yellowcard

bumping old threads to revive past disputes and/or poke fun at other posters = tempban/permaban

let the mods ๐Ÿ‘ฎ be the judge of what is or is not a "great revive"

nothing i hate more than forums that fetishise "make a new thread!!!". Great, you have 1000000 threads with six posts in them asking the same question, nice one.

stet, Thursday, 16 April 2020 16:40 (six years ago)

actually this is a lie, I hate a load of things more. wtf

stet, Thursday, 16 April 2020 16:40 (six years ago)

off-topic "tangents" will be deleted or split off into their own thread ajkdrbgjkvbqerhjhjmavnej

i haven't heard of "necroposting" until now, though, that's kind of a fun term.

let me be your friend on the other end! (Karl Malone), Thursday, 16 April 2020 17:04 (six years ago)

it's a practice that on essentially every other messageboard you'd get instantly flamed for

silby, Thursday, 16 April 2020 17:05 (six years ago)

(for no good reason really)

silby, Thursday, 16 April 2020 17:05 (six years ago)

i always thought the quality of the necrothreads was one thing that set ILX apart. i do see it as a resource for the future, or an archive

let me be your friend on the other end! (Karl Malone), Thursday, 16 April 2020 17:06 (six years ago)

Nothing weirder to me than forums where people lose their shit over conversations drifting from thread topic

Microbes oft teem (wins), Thursday, 16 April 2020 17:06 (six years ago)

Like there are def messageboards out there where that would be grounds for moderation. Someone saying something a bit off topic

Microbes oft teem (wins), Thursday, 16 April 2020 17:07 (six years ago)

yeah I love ilx's stance on bumping old threads, the fact that we have people engaging in threads that last decades is great. I don't think we have a great ui for dealing with really long threads, but that's a separate issue.

I have no idea why people would think something is inactive when it's site _new answers_ and not site _new threads_

mh, Thursday, 16 April 2020 17:15 (six years ago)

why are we listening to this guy when he's not even a registered user

With long threads as well as 'Skipping xxxx messages at this point... Click here if you want to load them all, 'can we have a 'view previous 100 messages' as otherwise alternative is to load the full thread?

Dan Worsley, Thursday, 16 April 2020 18:16 (six years ago)

I would accept the ban as a show of good faith
