Lovely and detailed obituary for Barbara Remington, who as an artist seems to have worked with and known a ton of folks and lived a heck of an interesting long life, but whose greatest fame was near-anonymous as the designer of the 1960s US paperback covers of The Lord of the Rings.

Harry Gregg, the Northern Ireland and Manchester United goalkeeper, has died aged 87.

In 1958, Gregg escaped from the burning wreckage of the Munich air crash but went back in and brought Vera Lukić, the pregnant wife of a Yugoslav diplomat, and her young daughter, Vesna, to safety.
