still think the funniest line is "If you'd seen the movie, you'd know that it's an animated film about a squirrel."

ive read all your posts about on cinema and watched some of that youtube link posted above but i still have no clue what's going on. may need to start from scratch on it.β Thybulle on the Dash (Spottie), Friday, February 14, 2020 1:16 PM (thirty seconds ago) bookmarkflaglinkstart from the first season! We're all very familiar with Will Smith and what he's capable of. I think this is his best performance if not the best performance of the year by anyone. You've had Bicentennial Man, now you have Gemini Man and may it's flag wave forever. This is great movie and I do believe there will be a Gemini Man 2 because this is the start of a great franchise.

that post being right underneath the images of Chernobyl is ilx fate at its finest
― sarahell, Friday, 14 February 2020 20:31 (six years ago)
Chernobyl was gripping but the accents were weird and the first half was much stronger than the second
― groovypanda, Friday, 14 February 2020 20:35 (six years ago)
the first truly, truly great On Cinema moment is the Parque Jurasico popcorn classic in S2E9 imo (although there was plenty of brilliant stuff before it)
― imago, Friday, 14 February 2020 20:36 (six years ago)
The Trial may be the greatest piece of the On Cinema canon.
― Jersey Al (Albert R. Broccoli), Friday, 14 February 2020 20:37 (six years ago)

― imago, Friday, 14 February 2020 20:38 (six years ago)
lol I liked the scene-for-scene comparison at the end of that episode where they showed Gemini Man looked exactly like an episode of Decker.
The Trial screened theatrically at BAM in New York late last year.

voted for Mindhunter, also i don't necessarily think Fincher is pulling the plug permanently especially considering the show would likely have some leaps forward in time if we're following the BTK story, and i imagine with his clout and apparent loyalty to the show he's just taking some time off to work on other things and allow the other actors to work as well.

i wanted to go to that but couldn't imagine spending 4.5 hours in a theater xp
― american bradass (BradNelson), Friday, 14 February 2020 20:40 (six years ago)
i think S1 of Mindhunter reached some highs that S2 fell just shy of in several ways but it was still great.
― omar little, Friday, 14 February 2020 20:40 (six years ago)
That's a good point about the time jumps, seeing the actors released from their contracts is just kind of an ominous headline.

great show, I give it five bags of popcorn and maybe throw in a little Geiger counter because this show is so hot, it's practically radioactive
― frogbs, Friday, 14 February 2020 20:48 (six years ago)
it had everything: action, drama, comedy, suspense and dancing

fuck this union-busting creep btw
On Cinema's prescience crosses over to Decker in that the alternating squinting / open-pursed lips acting range is exactly exactly Trump's childlike notion of performative toughness definitely disagree with Mr America as a capsule summary of On Cinema for newbie btw, though it probably works fine as a tiny weird stand-alone I lost interest in Killing Eve pretty early on in s1 and no one seemed to think s2 was an improvement
β bold caucasian eroticism (Simon H.), Saturday, February 15, 2020 2:52 AM (four hours ago)
S2 of Killing Eve was pretty poor. Surprised to see it so high

How does this compare to the film (which I liked)
β imago, Saturday, February 15, 2020 6:14 AM (forty minutes ago)
it's astounding how well it compares to the film. it's not quite as great, but keeps the tone perfectly, doesn't exhaust the premises, invents loads of great new wrinkles to the set-up and even to modern vampirism, and even manages to preserve a touch of the charming parochialism of the original despite being set in NYC.

The way I Think You Should Leave was meme'd told me that Mr. Show would have been huge if social media had been around in the 90s. Also, too low.
― Chris L, Friday, 14 February 2020 21:11 (six years ago)
maybe the Instagram sketch is so great it justifies the show's position here
I didn't really get much else as hard (with a few exceptions) - too much mudpie, too much pandering to basic crudeness idk. maybe it'll grow on me if i finish the season
― imago, Friday, 14 February 2020 21:11 (six years ago)
The way I Think You Should Leave was meme'd told me that Mr. Show would have been huge if social media had been around in the 90s.
totally though I think this show was designed with that in mind, there's a pretty conscious overlap between it and a lot of weird twitter stuff
― frogbs, Friday, 14 February 2020 21:12 (six years ago)
I watched it all. It was fine. Not a fan. People I like a lot love it.

its definitely hit and miss but one advantage of the show is that the sketches actually end pretty quickly
on the thread someone posted the "Roundball Rock" sketch from SNL which I think demonstrates exactly what's wrong the show...the premise of the sketch is hilarious but once its revealed there's nothing left to do and yet they make it go on for 7 minutes anyway. ITYSL doesn't have that problem
― frogbs, Friday, 14 February 2020 21:14 (six years ago)
like all sketch shows it has peaks and valleys but the peaks (steering wheel, the worms are their money, turbo time, etc) stuck in my head since the first viewing
