I'm sort of constitutionally wired to dislike Biden's "mayors aren't shit" ad

This was the first time I heard of the Best Little Boy: https://www.nytimes.com/2018/06/18/fashion/weddings/mayor-peter-buttigieg-wedding-democratic-party.html

Obama namedropping him was what started this

I will donate to the Biden campaign if he performs "Shimmy Shimmy Ya" in front of a camera.

Greta Van Show Feets BB (milo z), Saturday, 8 February 2020 19:51 (six years ago)

Before that NYT article about his wedding there was this Frank Bruni column from 2016:

Also, Tulsi Gabbard is actually the cynical party switching power-grubbed that people accuse Elizabeth Warren of being.

gbx, Sunday, 9 February 2020 19:59 (six years ago)

I'm not sure if I buy that Tulsi has ever had a particular party allegiance. I think she might have actual stances, but I get kind of a culty grift vibe from her whole enterprise

Petition to change thread title to "Your next 2020 Democratic presidential primary thread: Now you’re a lying dog-faced pony soldier."

A young woman asks Biden "How do you explain the performance in Iowa and why should the voters believe that you can win a national election?"

Biden's response: "You ever been to a caucus?"

Woman says yes.

Biden: "No you haven’t. You’re a lying dog-faced pony soldier."

one of my least favorite tendencies rn of the very online Left is that many appear willing to give Tulsi (and even Yang) fans the benefit of the doubt that they do not seem ready to extend Warren partisans. like i "get" that T & Y represent some vague notion of 'anti-establishmentism'. but for folks who argue (correctly) that we should be focused on policy above all else, this seems pretty dumb

A-B-C. A-Always, B-Be, C-Chooglin (will), Sunday, 9 February 2020 21:33 (six years ago)

and tbh everything about Tulsi just screams grifter to me

A-B-C. A-Always, B-Be, C-Chooglin (will), Sunday, 9 February 2020 21:34 (six years ago)

Maybe grifter, maybe her parents' reactionary Hindu surfer cult.

Anyways, I'm sympathetic to her pacifist leanings, but she lost me when fronting for Modi's Hindu nationalism and al-Assad's murderous regime.

my least favorite tendencies rn of the very online Left

How many people does this actually encompass, though? I follow all the old Splinter people and some Jacobin people and Chapo people and so on down the left twitter line, and there's not some swelling undercurrent of "Yang and Tulsi are okay, really..."

Greta Van Show Feets BB (milo z), Sunday, 9 February 2020 23:57 (six years ago)

I haven’t endorsed anyone because there’s more than one good progressive and everyone has to vote their conscience. But I submit to my supporters that someone with no real agenda and no real vision for our country beyond a vague notion of inclusion is nothing but a corporate tool

mookieproof, Monday, 10 February 2020 00:04 (six years ago)

mostly it's leftbook folks but i've seen it on twitter as well.
and no, they're not pro-Yang or Tulsi (well, some kind of are pro-Tulsi? or were?), but do seem more forgiving of those respective fanbases than they are of Warren folks.

"voting present" was the final straw for a lot of my pro-Tulsi friends, though many had tapped out before that

sorry for butt rockin (Neanderthal), Monday, 10 February 2020 00:12 (six years ago)

Warren asked by a voter who will look at her fondly and unquestioningly, essentially "who will be your Mike Pence"?

"I already have a dog," Warren quips.

but also fuck you (unperson), Monday, 10 February 2020 00:13 (six years ago)

seems like the michael tracey/greenwald wing that loves tulsi

symsymsym, Monday, 10 February 2020 00:45 (six years ago)

I've only seen the anti-Warren stuff in the context of very online Warren people being the most ardently anti-Bernie outside of Buttigieg people. Yang and Tulsi fans aren't (as) anti-Bernie.

(Which is to say, it doesn't represent real world Warren voters intentions any more than it represents real world Sanders voters intentions.)

Greta Van Show Feets BB (milo z), Monday, 10 February 2020 00:50 (six years ago)

I had assumed the "lying, dog-faced pony soldier" story was satire but there's video: https://disrn.com/news/biden-calls-woman-lying-dog-faced-pony-soldier?fbclid=IwAR0WlwCzTdKNiAltNrq3ySqm9573mecfUsDzRoQjUm2kO4kSKxJ2NTsr3S4
