Because mistakes and general bumblefuckery will occur throughout the dem primaries (because this is an endeavor being conducted by human beings), it may behoove any and all official spokespeople, in the course of demands by the press and public to explain how such mistakes could possibly have occurred, to have on hand a random assortment of 5-10 much bigger fuck-ups committed by the POTUS which they can simply recite as a response. It's a bottomless well so this tack should easily carry them through all the way to November.

Extremely weird shit, the campaign has incentive to move on but any adult with a brain should want basic answers about Iowa.

We HAVE the goddamn answers! Sanders and Buttigieg got roughly the same number of votes, and did better than all the others! Warren came in a solid third and showed her campaign is for now still viable! Biden did substantially worse than expected! Those are the basic answers! They are not in dispute! Whether Buttigieg or Sanders got a half a percent more or less than the others is not important! asdfshdjflas;hdljhdskhdkjg

Sanders and Buttigieg got roughly the same number of votes

A 6k lead on the initial choice strikes me as not "roughly the same."

Great point! The numbers of initial votes are also reported and are also not in dispute!

this is probably good news for bernie more than any other candidate

Eugene reports that this includes senior people in Yang's HQ, including the national political and policy directors and the deputy national political director. Laid off staffers said they got at least a month's severance https://t.co/S2AGZ4Hn9I https://t.co/hswzvnPWMT

call me old fashioned but I always thought the whole point of iowa was for whoever placed 2nd and 3rd to make up some bullshit about how they actually wona moral victory. does nobody else remember joementum (a two way tie for third! aka fifth place!)?

We've detailed in this thread multiple times when it's taken over a week to tabulate the caucus results within the past 20 years

I think I missed those posts. But yes, the 2012 Republican caucus is a good example. I honestly don't remember hearing very much about that at the time, so maybe the difference is that everyone's nerves are constantly frayed now (and some of us are on Twitter too much).

I refuse to believe that Tom Perez or anyone working for him could organize a "piss-up in a brewery," as our British friends say, but the public call to "recanvass" is at least one for chaos. If you support any Democrat you should run him out of town on a rail.

So far all I've seen from Mayor Mike's campaign is dumb shit talking stuff like this. Not that I have expectations, but it's telling about the level what he's aiming for.

He received four pieces of mail from the Biden campaign. Only one mentioned the economy. The rest were about Trump, civility and international affairs, issues that did not move voters, he said.

Harpootlian said a third-place finish would make Biden โ€œthe comeback kid,โ€ Bill Clintonโ€™s description of himself after the then-governor of Arkansas battled to a second-place finish here in 1992.
โ€œThen he goes to Nevada โ€” and then thank God he comes to a normal state,โ€ he said, referring to the fourth-voting state, South Carolina.

So Nate Silver's prediction machine now has Bernie as the favorite, with a 50% chance of winning the nomination.

It's delightful that the most establishment-friendly candidate is the one that's cash-strapped and flailing the most obviously.

I think one of the centrist melts wrote tongue in cheek that the primary was an interesting battle between Biden's multiracial working class coalition and Sanders' endless amount of cash :)

Glad it turns out Biden has neither.

Listened to the 538 podcast. They say there's more certainty that Buttigieg won SDE than that Bernie won on Final Assignment.

Frederik B, Friday, 7 February 2020 13:09 (six years ago)

And Buttigieg is surging because he is picking up Biden votes, I would think.

Frederik B, Friday, 7 February 2020 13:10 (six years ago)

for this reason I am not encouraged by Biden's reported $ problems, would prefer to see him tread water for another couple months

Suggest Banshee (Hadrian VIII), Friday, 7 February 2020 13:14 (six years ago)

was hoping that among actual voters a Biden collapse could benefit Bernie as much as a Pete type but probably wishful thinking
