so here’s the deal: four years ago, I stayed to the end and in a large district it took us until around 9:15

this time around, nearly every district has *more voters* and there is more paperwork

so every precinct is taking at least two hours to finish

there is nothing fishy, it’s just a process that takes over two hours with this many people

maybe with more viable candidates it makes everything take longer too?

I mean, all of these are reasons why the caucuses are nuts but the news anchors are definitely making this all about them

i get that the whole delayed results thing is annoying but now cnn/wolf is trying to make it into a scandal which reflects very poorly on the iowa democratic party. that's it everyone, we can't count things and mobile apps aren't working, things are bleak, take your ball and go home

i was loling at this as well. i'm watching it on mute, but very satisfying to watch john king zoom into des moines county to reveal 0% for everything, then zooming back out to show the whole state at 0%, all the while maintaining a very serious look

So the formula to apportion delegates is the total numbers after 2nd alignment x (the total number of delegates) / (the total of people at the caucus).

So these 2nd alignment numbers x 6 / 285

Sanders: 2.44
Warren: 1.72
Buttigieg: 1.53

hey, you betcha. i was born in one of those counties, in des moines. but not des moines county, that's not where des moines is. des moines is in polk county, near the middle - no, not that one, it's the rectangular one, no, below that, no, it's another kind of rectangle, not that one, if you actually start in the lower-left corner and count 4 up, then 6 bootheeled counties over to the right...oooh yeah. that's the goddamned capital

xp - left twitter doesn't have to coordinate running a campaign that operates under more than 50 sets of rules. the idea isn't to get mad at the rules, but to master them so they work in your favor to the maximum extent possible. Over and over again.

i'm not sure! i was born in des moines but then my parents moved to jacksonville FL til i was 3. then back up to des moines county, IA (Burlington), then down to missouri so i could learn how to be creeped out by my neighbors. so anyway, i have zero local knowledge of des moines.

one of my friends just posted results from what would be her relatively sleepy precinct, so i doubt that the delays are all to be placed on the party and their app and reporting protocols and whatnot. i've had friends posting local results for the past couple few hours, but this is the latest yet.

Warren, Pete & Sanders teams are all logging their own results in their own apps which I would hope will get people to calm down about ratfucking.

I'm feeling mighty fine, personally.

The problem is not ratfucking. The problem is elections being run by incompetent marks depress turnout.

Bernie's ppl have numbers and he appears to be in good spirits. Good enough for bedtime.

I think these caucuses are being run almost entirely by volunteers. Same goes for elections where voters go to polling places. And the average age of poll workers is well over retirement age. Democracy in the USA has a huge component of DIY.

everyone running my precinct was very competent and remained friendly despite the voters fucking
some things up, and the fact we were in a small gym with one chair for every six people

*poll* workers in elections are generally retirement age, but nearly everyone working the caucus was in their 30s or 40s. some were people I hang out with!

none of those people fucked up. it's whoever was in charge of collecting the votes from all the individual caucuses. they made an app which sucks and doesn't work, there's a hotline (just one??) which everyone's on hold with, etc

I've avoided CNN and only heard about their freak out second hand. I'll note that NYT has Bernie on top and Warren second and Biden at the bottom. I'm glad she's rebounded if that holds even though I decided last week I'd vote for Sanders over her.
