What's interesting to me is people who say this seem not to have noticed changes in media over the last 15 odd years. Which candidate has *not* had a cult of some kind around them, in the last few years? All of that has clearly been amplified by social media, internet memes etc. It's the nature of the beast these days, afaic.

if a Tory is polling at 50% then nothing to see here. If a leader of the opposition inspires a membership surge of a mostly youngish demographic making it the biggest party in Europe, then they have been mesmerised by a shaman trickster!
